Its been said, but people who take an extra step should hear from all of us, so to pile on.

    STOP TAKING A EXTRA STEP!

BS... If the guy is taking too big of a lead, then pick him off!

If he is taking an "extra step" or really just a big lead and you can't pick him off because he's too good a runner, too fast, or your pitcher sucks at pick offs, then guess what -- his big lead is just right and totally justified.

You think all base runners take the predetermined lead in baseball? Do you not understand faster runners and good base runners generally take larger leads because they can? You honestly want to sit there and act like Rickey Henderson didn't take larger leads at will?

People like you are the absolute worst in this game. And the amount of dopes that liked your post is scary. It's so easy to pick off bad base runners this year, so easy.

Crybabies like you are the worst online. Telling a player who has a 90+ guy on first he can't take a big lead is like trying to tell the other pitcher he's not allowed to throw balls because you only want strikes lmao.

    Clown.

Thanks for the name calling which proves to me 100% which one of us is the worst here.

    Lmao how SAWFT honk honk.

Go ahead and shelter in place on this one... ... Mr Rickey Henderson isnt allowed to lead more than David Ortiz so I'll stall and refuse to play.

Pretty clear this guy is one who will keep taking the extra step. No surprise there.

Only with a very good runner that has a good steal rating so i don't get picked off and it is totally realistic. You know what's NOT realistic? The fielding team refusing to play because Ty Cobb is leading 1 step further than Miguel Cabrera.

Read through this thread and the dozens like it through the years, you are severely in the minority here to think you are entitled to an extra step.

I don't care if I'm in the minority in a post, what i care about is what is realistic in baseball terms and what is acceptable in game play.

You as the fielding team, protesting and refusing to continue play because Ty Cobb leads 1 step further than Miguel Cabrera is totally unrealistic, and poor gameplay.

Google statcast lead distance and look at the data yourself for lead sizes in baseball. Good runners take bigger leads because they can, it's just a fact and part of baseball.

You honestly want to sit there and say Rickey Henderson, Ty Cobb, Mondesi, Whit Merrifield, Juan Pierre, etc. should not be allowed to have a longer lead than David Ortiz, Miguel Cabrera, Yadier Molina, Corey Kluber, Roy Oswalt, etc???

    Really?

It’s a video game. This topic has been discussed on here ad nauseum.

Obviously, you are free to play the game the way you want, but you can expect to have a lot of opponents throw over or step off until you stop taking that step or get picked off.

Also, this is a tactic most commonly adopted by poor hitters, so way to out yourself.

Yeah, the tactic I see now is people taking a step with no intention of stealing, they do it to elicit an errant pick off. So now I vary my throw and pitch instead of stepping off, ain't nobody got time for that.

What a terrible assumption, stop trying to deflect and move the goal posts. I'm a CS player that overall has hit approx 265-270. Am i the greatest? No, but I'm also not playing on a monitor so i stall out in the mid-800s, maybe I'll hit WS this year maybe not.

Also, look what I'm saying, i don't do it all the time because that's how you get picked off. I'm talking about great base runners with great speed taking a larger lead. I've seen entitlement mentioned here, you know what entitlement looks like? Refusing to play the game because your opponent is taking a larger lead with a great base runner!

Honestly though you guys need to stop deflecting and moving the goalposts and address this statement that you continue to avoid: Do you feel its wrong for a player such as Rickey Henderson to take a longer lead than a guy like Yadier Molina or Miguel Cabrera?

Statcast and the entirety of baseball history disagrees with you. Wake up.

Its not wrong for you to take a longer lead, its not long for me to hold you on. Its a stalemate. Guess we find out who's more stubborn.

You can't pretend this game is real life either, we all know giving a fast runner the extra lead is a guaranteed stolen base in this game.

But I can only pickoff three times without you taking an extra lead, so if you stop taking an extra step I won’t be able to step off anymore. In that sense, you are the one delaying the game.

It’s a video game, so “right” and “wrong” don’t really come into it.

Obviously, you can take as big of a lead with whoever you want, and your opponent can then counter.

The really fast guys don’t need an extra step lead to steal a base.

There’s no deflection going on here. This is the consensus on these forums. You don’t have to like it or agree.

This isn't the major leagues chief. We've got 102 mph sinkers that are most effective up and in. Lazy fly balls at the track that defenders with diamond defense can't handle. Runners getting thrown out at first on weak hits to right field far more often than is reasonable. Catchers that are essentially Swiss cheese. Perfect/perfect fly balls from the greater power hitters of all time that die at the track, and good/okay moonshots by pitchers. Base runners refusing to advance on a ball that clearly won't get caught, which eventually leads to two runners standing on the same base. I hate to break this to you, but you're playing a video game, and a flawed one at that.

It is ridiculously easy to steal in this game even without an extended lead, so why is it your opponents responsibility to concede an even larger than necessary lead? If you really feel that entitled to your extended lead because "that's baseball", fine. Just don't [censored] and moan when your opponent steps off and throws over because guess what? That's video games. They can do whatever they want to try and beat you within the confines of the game, and complaining about their actions is hypocritical.

If my opponent takes an extra step I will step off.....

    every. single. time.

until they stop. You already get given a standard sized lead where you CAN NOT get picked off. If you take the extra step, I will step off all night i have nowhere to be and a lot of pettiness

Bro are you just trolling at this point? It is entirely in your hands. If you don't want your opponent to pick off any longer, then stop taking an extra step, it is that simple.

In real life, if a runner keeps taking an extra step I would continually step off until they stopped as well. Not going to risk throwing the ball away just to try to pick someone off. The game is entirely in the pitcher's hands and controlling the run game is 80% up to the pitcher. I would not be doing my job if I didn't keep the runner close.

You are the one that is delaying the game. He is only trying to counter you.

The sportsmanlike thing to do once your opponent sees you are taking an extra step lead and throws over/steps off a few times, is to stop taking an extra step and move your runner with the bat.

No you are delaying the game, learn how to pitch with runners on base and them taking the extra step won’t have any affect.

Stepping off or throwing over is actually the proper move to counter the fact that you get an extra step. You must be .....never mind. Good luck stepper. Life gets tough sometimes when youre.....nevermind.

The only guys that argue this point are the ones that constantly take extra steps. If they make it to WS, then they seem to feel particularly entitled to it, because they keep getting rewarded for it.
I never take an extra step. 👍

This game is not real baseball. It’s a RNG based dice roll game with made up cards. So no most players will not let you just lead and steal with a fast player.
