I finally played a game on HOF. Struck out 25 times in a nine inning game. And I WON. I'm afraid to try again now that I'm in the 700s and guaranteed to play on HOF again lol I've never really been able to hit in this game, but I'm usually good enough to play at least a few on HOF and it's just nuts this year.

Hippity Hopp is pretty good.

Oh, I'm glad they added real uniforms too, I just hope you always have the option to make custom uniforms. I actually enjoy messing with my uniforms almost as much as playing the game. Yes, probably because I suck lol.

Oscar Gamble would like a word.

Now that they have real uniforms in the game I fear it's just a matter of time before they phase out the uniform creator. Which sucks, because I love the uniform creator, but I can't imagine a logo vault full of b00bs and d0ngs is worth the hassle for SDS.

I don't think lincecum even knows this game exists so it would be hard for them to ever get his rights.
I don't think rights to use players in the game work this way.
Sony/SDS has a deal with the MLBPA to use current players and the MLB Players Alumni Association to use former players. They don't have to make a separate deal with every player in the game; they have rights to every player whose licensing is handled by these two organizations. So even if Tim Lincecum doesn't know the game exists, as long as he hasn't specifically opted out of allowing the Alumni Association to handle his licensing rights Sony/SDS should be able to put him in the game.
Which is a long way of saying that the new legend could be him, but it could be a lot of people.

It's the West Team Affinity conquest map for me. There are four Angels hexagons that give me the unhandled server exception error when I try to attack them. It's a shame because I've already defeated all the strongholds. Hopefully SDS can fix this so that folks don't have to start maps over.

I’m 40 and about 20 games over .500 in RS. I made WS in a couple of years ago, then didn’t buy the game again until now because that grind wore me out in DD.
The highest I’ve been this year is 750. I play on a monitor, use Kontrol Freaks, and can’t hit very well.
I attribute this to switching my ISP from Spectrum to ATT. I’m at 12mbps tops with them.
I think connection makes a huge difference. Sometimes I have games where I can react and everything feels like it should.
Other games that FB is a complete blur and I can’t time it no matter what and I end up quitting because it isn’t fun.
Plus the connection is a combination of your internet (which you have some control over) and your opponent's (which you don't). I've read some comments on here about SDS needing to implement ping-based matchmaking; I don't really know enough about the technology to know how much of a solution that would be, but pitch speeds fluctuating pretty dramatically from game to game is... Not great.

Anyone know the input lag on ASUS vg249q monitor can't find it anywhere. Thanks guys.
I can't find information on that model specifically, but on https://displaylag.com/display-database/ it looks like all the ASUS monitors they tested that were manufactured in the last few years have input lag ranging from 9ms to 12ms.. Interestingly, the best TVs aren't far behind at all (my specific model was tested at 12ms), so I'm starting to think maybe most of the benefit of a monitor is due to something else, maybe the smaller screen or some other aspect of the display that isn't related to input lag. Also interestingly, it seems like some of the value of the high end monitors has to do with their higher and variable refresh rates, but the PS4 is capped at 60Hz so you're not seeing any of those benefits.

I've been playing since the game was on PS3, first one I bought had Ryan Howard on the cover, so I don't have the excuse that it's all new to me, unfortunately. The only pitches I hit well are mistakes down the middle, and you generally don't see many of those. And one of my issues with waiting for my pitch is that, if I actually get the pitch I'm waiting for, I get excited and swing too early and pull it foul more often than not. But I enjoy the game enough to keep at it, so I guess that's something.

I'm 55, no monitor, haven't gotten past All-Star in ranked seasons. You can do this! I say be patient, even if it means taking strikes, especially inside ones. Practice on "Steal phase" of conquest, because nothing is really lost on the outcome. Practice, not swinging and recognizing the breaks. I'm still VERY vulnerable on sliders that come straight and below the zone.
I actually made it to Championship Series a few years ago, but this year I think I've maybe gotten to the mid-750s once before collapsing and falling back. This season I can't get out of Pennant Race, which led to a lot of frustration and this post. I'm also trying to learn analog pitching (used to use pulse, but the randomness started to bother me), so maybe I'm trying to do too many things at once, not sure. Thanks for the tips. I can actually hit pretty well in Conquest games, even on Legend, but online is a completely different experience. I'm wondering if it's connection related, as I played two games this morning, and on one I couldn't react to the fastball no matter what I did, got three hits total and lost 5-0, add the other game I seemed to be able to react to pitches (certainly not perfect, but better) and my timing was better and I won 7-3. I think the frustration comes from not really knowing if I had a better approach in the second game, or just a weaker opponent/better internet connection/more favorable RNG. Maybe that's just the nature of the game for the majority of us who can't put the PCI on the ball consistently.

Is that at 1080p? I wouldn’t recommend playing on 4k. The frame rate gets pretty choppy.
Yeah, 1080p. I have the regular PS4 that doesn't support 4K.

Below is how I approach each at bat, may help you. I'm by no means a great player, but think I'm a little better than average and can compete most times. My online average is .274 and a 2.72 ERA. My ranked record is 25-14 on allstar. My current record on the the hall of fame difficulty event is 19-17, so not great but can hang.
I generally do not swing at the first pitch, unless it's a mistake pitch like down the middle or a pitch I feel really good about like low in the zone. When I have one strike, I will start cheating either high in the zone or inside with my PCI depending on the tendencies I'm picking up from the opponent. With 2 strikes I generally cheat high and inside as this is most peeps go to strikeout pitch. Biggest thing to remember is discipline, discipline, discipline. After about 2 innings or so, if my opponent is consistently pitching a first strike high in the zone or inside, then go ahead and start cheating and take advantage. Or wait till there are runners on base to get the big 3 run HR. Once you connect with a couple of these they will typically stop, so let them think they are getting one on you and then deliver when it counts the most. Hope this helps.
This is helpful, thank you. I sometimes think a pitch is going to be a mistake pitch and then it drops, but I suppose that happens at times to everyone. I will try to be consistent with this and see how it goes.

Do you know what the input lag of your tv is? You can check rtings.com if you don’t know.
It's a Samsung NU7100, so 13.7 ms according to rtings.com, which is... Pretty good for a TV? Definitely in the upper tier of the TVs they list anyway.

@vagimon said in Why can't I hit?:
I bought a monitor, and that definitely helped
When you say it helped, how would you describe the difference? Is pitch speed slower? Is it easier to see the difference between a fastball and a changeup? Can you wait longer before pressing X and still get a well timed swing? And is the difference dramatic or subtle?
Just curious.

All you guys in your 40’s listen up. Just keep playing the game and do some practice hitting on higher speeds than you are used to playing online. You will get better. I’m 65 and I’m 11-3 in RS and I win about 50-60% of the event games I play. It is doable so don’t let the fact that you are in your 40’s be a crutch.....wanna trade ages? lol
Yeah, but do you have a monitor or magic internet?

@Bleeding-_-Me said in Why can't I hit?:
I think most of the problem for us older people playing is picking up the ball... what pitch it is and where it’s going. I can tell you that there is no way I am picking up any spin on the ball at all let alone fast enough to respond in time...
Do you think you’d be able to pick up the spin on the ball or have any real difference if you had a monitor? Are you able to see spin now?I wonder about this too. I wonder if, when you watch streamers play the game, you're actually seeing what they're seeing in terms of how much time they have to react to a pitch, etc. They're all playing on Hall of Fame or Legend, but they can get the PCI to the ball more consistently than I can doing one of the Moments on Veteran difficulty. One of the streamers, I think maybe College Lefty, has a video where he shows his PCI movement in slow motion, and he actually initially reacts one way, then kind of "double clutches" and redirects his PCI to the correct spot, which is something I simply can't imagine having the reaction time to do. Does a monitor buy you that reaction time, or do some people just have it ? Obviously not everyone can be a top 50 player, so it's probably some of both, but I wonder how much difference it truly makes if you're just old and slow lol...
Is there anyone out there who bought a monitor and didn't think it helped much, or thinks it's mostly a placebo effect due to increased confidence? I know part of my problem at this point is that I know I can't hit, so I go into games expecting to struggle, and it's hard to stick to an approach when you're not seeing much success and thinking "here we go again."

I have a 65in tv that does 10ms input lag and don’t have the problems people talk about. There’s a ton of settings you can turn off and your almost as good as a monitor. If you turn off app downloads, all extra processing like dynamic contacts etc, remove all unwanted apps, turn off auto update, make sure your on 1080p and faster in the game settings and turn on game mode it all makes a difference.
Are these in game settings or ps4 settings and where can I find them?
I think most of them are actually TV settings, which are obviously going to vary by TV manufacturer. I'll have to look and see what I can turn off on my TV. I'm surprised that app download settings would make a difference, but I'll try anything as I don't really have the space to dedicate to a video game setup where a monitor would be an option.

Have you ever watched the youtuber Cbrev do his tutorials or "walkthrough with a top 50 player"
I watch all of CBrev's videos, he's the best of the streamers IMO. I try to take pitches like he does, but it seems like I'm always down 0-2, and once you strike out a few times and get the opposing pitcher's confidence up it seems like even the the occasional well hit ball is a lineout or a warning track fly out.
This is really helpful stuff though, thanks to all of you who have contributed.

Why do most of the good good contact go fielder's. Also what is up with the good oks and low exit velos?
Makes hitting a frustrating experience. This game mostly homerun or nothing.I'm so bad getting the PCI to the ball that I can't even really complain about that stuff. I'd like to hit well enough to start blaming the game, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure it's me.
