You say you play on a Samsung game mode right? I do too. However I renamed my hdmi input to PC which I find a little more precise then game mode although the graphics take a hit

I think I read about that somewhere and tried it but didn't notice much of a difference. Will have to try it again

Why do most of the good good contact go fielder's. Also what is up with the good oks and low exit velos?
Makes hitting a frustrating experience. This game mostly homerun or nothing.

I'm so bad getting the PCI to the ball that I can't even really complain about that stuff. I'd like to hit well enough to start blaming the game, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure it's me.

Response time is the time it takes your monitor to shift from one color to another. Usually, this is measured in terms of going from black to white to black again, in terms of milliseconds. A typical LCD response time is under ten milliseconds (10 ms), with some being as fast as one millisecond.

In video games, input lag is either the delay between the television or monitor receiving a signal and its being displayed on the screen, or the delay between pressing a button and seeing the game react.

interesting. I will try hooking up to a monitor and see if it makes a difference. Will reply back if it does

I'll turn 40 next week and was hitting .199 on a 60 inch tv on game mode. This season I'm playing on a monitor and am hitting about .270. If you're hitting 225 on a tv, I'd say you are pretty good. I think you can probably improve 50 to 100 points on that BA on a monitor

I will never get a monitor, but you have given me peace of mind. I will sleep soundly tonight. I am 43 and hit 190 on a 55 inch tv.

I get what you're saying. Its frustrating on principle to pay extra money on a video game, but I never buy stubs or packs so I reasoned that the monitor would make this game more enjoyable and it has. On a tv, I would basically have to guess a spot and immediately recognize if a pitch was coming to that area. On a monitor, you actually have time to move your pci to where a pitch is going.

I struggled initially as well and have gotten substantially better. I had a hard time with the inside pitches and started placing my pci on the inside instead of the middle. Once you start pulling the inside pitches, the opponent will pitch inside less frequently. On 2 strikes it is a guessing game and you will have to read your opponents patters to get an idea of where he is going. Remember.... this us a hard game and it rewards patience.... much like real baseball. One other tip, by being patient, not swinging a missing constantly, your opponent will hopefully be throwing more balls. When that happens both his fatigue and confidence meter go down which will lead to more mistakes. If you are constantly swinging and missing the opposite happens. There is a reason why the best players may not score a run till the 3rd inning and open up a can of whoop [censored].

Another way - although can be tedious and I can't personally stick with it.. but take a lot of pitches... unless you're playing some super elite players.. a lot of players have patterns when they pitch.. can be fast/slow/fast slow -the rocking chair.. or first pitch always low sinkers... or after cutters always a sinker etc.. Have you ever watched the youtuber Cbrev do his tutorials or "walkthrough with a top 50 player" his voice is kinda annoying, but he does this approach which I find sometimes works!

I'm in the 40's, and was a WS player last year.. only managed to hit CS this year.. really struggled this current RS season..

    @thumpasery said in Why can't I hit?:

play virtually all my games on All Star difficulty in Ranked Seasons and am hitting around .225 online, which I know is really bad. I've watched tons of hitting tips videos and nothing seems to work for me. I try to look for the "bump" at the release point to determine if it's an offspeed pitch, but a fastball released just a little high looks the same to me, so I'm either late on the fastball or early on offspeed. I feel like I have to swing early to catch up with the fastball, so I'm often swinging at pitches out of the zone. I try batting practice with the sliders turned up, but I just flail for however long I take batting practice and don't notice any improvement, so it feels pointless. I play on a 55" Samsung TV in game mode, and for a variety of reasons a monitor isn't really an option, so I'm wondering if not having a monitor is the majority of my problem, or if there could be other factors at work. Does having a monitor make pitch speeds look slower? I have the original (pre-Pro) PS4; does having a Pro make a difference? My internet is Comcast with a WiFi connection and averages about 25Mbps when tested on the PS4; is that good? Bad? Irrelevant? I've read that connection quality can impact pitch speeds pretty dramatically; is this true, and how much of a factor is it compared to the difference a monitor makes? Do any of the TV settings apart from game mode (which HDMI input you use, HDR setting on or off, 1080 vs 720) matter?
I'm also probably at the upper end of the age spectrum for people playing this game (I'm 48) and my eyesight isn't perfect. I'm just wondering why I'm so bad at hitting and if it's one issue or a combination of things, and if there's anything I'm missing or if it's possible to just not be very good and not able to improve.
    Thanks!

I'll take a shot. First, I believe there is a good chance this is a bait post where the "good samaritans" from the forum can give everyone tips while offering up the illusion that it really makes any difference because the AI decides the outcome of everything in this game.

If not, I apologize for my cynicism.

When it comes to batting the AI is exceptionally covert with it's dictating of outcomes. It's coded to use the vibration of the controller as well as the audio..along with the PCI animation of course, that suggests how your swing matched up against the pitch. In reality nothing the batter nor pitcher intended..actually happened to the degree the animation-audio-vibration suggests. It's smoke and mirrors.

So, that's the first hurdle to getting better. Realizing it's not so much your ability as what the software is coded to depict. Then just living with the truth. You can't, no matter how much you practice, get better at a game that is not a true simulation. It takes you for a ride and you enjoy the experience when you win...try not to get to upset when you don't.

I call bs on all of this. You can absolutely get better. And your timing and pci placement absolutely are the main ingredients in having success in this game. I say all of this as someone who is not very good at this game. I know my timing and pci placement are off when I am doing terrible. It's not the game just randomly making me have bad outcomes

I watch all of CBrev's videos, he's the best of the streamers IMO. I try to take pitches like he does, but it seems like I'm always down 0-2, and once you strike out a few times and get the opposing pitcher's confidence up it seems like even the the occasional well hit ball is a lineout or a warning track fly out.

This is really helpful stuff though, thanks to all of you who have contributed.

I've seen tons of these posts and I also have tried everything. What I have done is have my PCI totally fade out and then I just react to the pitch. That feels like real baseball to me.
My sample size is very small, but it just feels better so far.
To me this game is about discovery and just exploring what works for you, there really is no magic formula.

$200 Asus monitor, Kontrol freeks, and precision rings.

You’ll start hitting with these. It’s an investment but if you enjoy the game, it’s worth it.

I have kontrol freeks and Im still unsure if they really make a difference.
I've been searching for what they are really supposed to do for you and I just can't seem to find it. What are your thoughts?

I have a 65in tv that does 10ms input lag and don’t have the problems people talk about. There’s a ton of settings you can turn off and your almost as good as a monitor. If you turn off app downloads, all extra processing like dynamic contacts etc, remove all unwanted apps, turn off auto update, make sure your on 1080p and faster in the game settings and turn on game mode it all makes a difference.
