    RTTS Dreams
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

Repeatable post-diamond progression - I made like 8 RTTS characters for 22 so that I could reap the XP awards from the progressions (bronze, silver, gold, diamond) over various programs.
For this to work, i think it would have to progress at a rate equivalent to the gold tier - if it was repeated diamond rates it'd still be beneficial to roll the multiple characters, but at gold it's not quite as fast as multiples but "close enough".
Could hand out more of the lower ranked perks while doing this, too, not every perk has to be diamond level - say one of each tier perk per run through

Start the RTTS character's career in 2022 (not 23), and "lock" team trades for the "22 season". Character could then spend a full year in the minors, and maybe earn himself a slot on the big club during spring training - and play a full year with the 23 roster. I wanted to do that with my multiple Red Sox and Cardinals players, but was brought to the big show every August 2022, and of course a couple of months later, offseason.

    ---or---

allow meteoric rises up through the organization - my current character is a 75 C 76 SP for the Cards, and sits behind only Molina on the C depth chart, and is around the #3 MLB pitcher overall - so why isn't he in the big show already if not for this "hard cap" that keeps him in AA till just before the ASG.

Is the Ohtani rule (2 way pitchers being able to hit in games they pitch) going to be implemented?

  • Can’t find new diamond archetypes
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

Double check the program. There isn't an archtype at the end of the diamond-level program, the one that takes 200 points to finish off. It's usually a piece of equipment or something like that at the end and there's no more program points being earned on that created player anymore.

  • Does Power even matter?
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

To hit some point being made in this thread:

    1. Power matters. The best "demonstration" I have of this is my current power/contact 1B. As a bronze (low power) he hit a ton of gap doubles or flew out. As soon as he hit silver, and he got a "massive" power boost (from getting silver card and another power booster in the mini-diamonds) he spent some time hitting "over the outfielder's heads" (at least until they started playing me deep and they started turning into warning-track catches) and the HRs started really popping.

    2. I don't think "slumps" are built into the game. One of my characters, all of them on beginner/default sliders, has a 100+ game hitting streak...

    3. I have "anecdotal" evidence that pitcher stats are factored into the game. To wit, there are some pitchers (if I'm right, those with high HR/9 stats causing more hits to "stay in the ballpark" and/or high groundball rates), and others that if I compiled all my characters I probably have an .800 HR average against.
Which is the other reason why I don't think slumps are built into the game - I practice the old adage of "adapt to what you're facing" - with slight variances in my timing, the "groundball / no homer" guys I'll bang a 3 doubles in the gap night off of, and when I "mistime" them with a HR swing, I tend to "pop/line out". Then there's the ones where I lock onto my "homer timing" and watch a ton fly out...

  • RTTS attribute stuck at 63 for 2 full seasons
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

Quickest thought is to "upgrade your archtype".

I think what "snags" a lot of players in this boat is that Archtypes come in packs that have to be opened before they can be applied...

  • How do the different 2-way player "formats" wind up working?
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

What I mean by the heading is:

I've played the "usual" two-way format, the one they give you from the get-go:

Pitch every 5th day in the rotation as a "regular" starter, DH on the days before/after your scheduled start, field the middle two days.

And there's usually a question, relatively early in the career, if you're OK with that - with the middle option being "I still want to pitch but nowhere near as much" alongside the "I don't want to be a two-way anymore".

So how often does the "I still want to pitch but not in the rotation" work out to being?

Alongside that, how does being a relief pitcher work as a two-way? Do you get held out of games in which you might be put in as a reliever? Do you DH then get "moved" to the mound (giving up the DH spot) in save situations?

  • RTTS Roster/Lineup Control update needed
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

One of my RTTS characters, playing for the Red Sox, pitched alongside Chris Sale (before his pinky / wrist incidents) in AAA then the bigs...

..."representing" the rehab that he was on when I picked "used current rosters"...

Meanwhile, remember exactly what the mode is calling for, and what broken_toy1 above is mentioning:

RTTS is a (the) mode in which all the "human" controls is the player that's attempting to reach/dominate the major leagues. Having no control over the front office and day-to-day management are "features" of this mode, just as individual major leaguers have little to no say over the management and front office of "their" squads.

To pluck an example from another one of my RTTS players, when I intentionally picked being a closer for the aforementioned Red Sox, why would I, as the "GM", trade me to the Nationals for a couple of lame outfielders when I just made AAA?
But because of the nature of the mode, I had to "live with the heartbreak" of "baseball as a business" and now that players' on a quest to show up Chaim Bloom's AI and win a WS somewhere else, or score a massive FA contract from Bloom's AI when I get there...

  • Call up to AAA/MLB stories (for research / comparison purposes)
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

Update: Mid June, got to where my RF OVR (weaker of my two) > third starter in AAA. No movement.
End of 7/7 game, got my diamond archtype. Overalls now 80 for SP, 77 for RF. Competition on DET is... poor. For SP, the highest SP is 71, and for the MLB side there are 2 80s then a 77. And as far as the RFs go, their best is a 71.

7/10 start, SP OVR now 81. 7/12 fielding game, RF now 78. After that, my RF OVR makes me a "clear" third starter in The Show, and my SP OVR makes me the team's "ace" (highest OVR). Have been the clear best RF for a little while now... Start of 7/13? Called up to AAA... Exactly as expected and "on schedule". Placed as "ace" of AAA...
8/4, RF OVR now 80 - "ties" me for

...and like clockwork, 8/16, got to 81 OVR on my RF, and promoted to the show...

  • Call up to AAA/MLB stories (for research / comparison purposes)
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

As the recent plethora of "why am I not being called up" posts seems to indicate, there's a lot of people... confused... as to what it takes (in game) to get called up.

I've begun to notice that it's definitely not statistics, it's somewhat tied to "comparative" overall - ie, the game primarily compares the overall rating of the player vs. the overalls of the teammates ahead of him in the organization - but there seems to be "minimum times in league". To wit, check out the "Going from AA to the Majors" post for my... previous researches.

As I've been doing, I made yet another ballplayer, this time a "slugging knucksie" SP/RF. Did the "put me on a dark horse" team during the draft/creation, and got the Tigers.
Competition is: RF: Rosa AAA 63 OVR, Grossman MLB 71.
    SP: (just overalls) AAA: 1st starter 71, 3rd 67, 5th 63. 80/77/76 at the MLB level.

About June 8th, I got my gold archetype, and after applying it and the extra perks, I got into the low 70s for both my overalls. As of 6/12, my OVRs are 71(RF) 74 (SP).

"Historically", even though I'm the "better than all my AAA competition - read, my SP OVR > all SPs for DET AAA and my RF OVR > DET AAA and tied for DET MLB, it won't be till 7/13 that I'll see AAA - even though, due to playing on beginner with unadjusted sliders, my stats are... "video game": SP: 11-0, 99 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.15 WHIP 167Ks : .Batting 749 AVG/OBP 1.964 SLG 2.713 OPS 146 hits / 195 AB 45 doubles 9 triples 58 HR 55 Putouts 9 assists 0 errors...
And the earliest I'll see The Show might be 8/1.

I'll keep posting to this thread with "this player's story" - and look forward to seeing how some other people seem to fare...

  • Stealing and the Manager
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

"38 speed" doesn't tell me much... Especially in light of how the game has... issues... displaying stats.

Is that a 38 speed in the "postgame reports", or is that a 38 speed in your circle of the "players on base" diamond (upper right corner, with the instructions on how to advance/lead)

I vaguely remember my manager throwing a few "steal" signs at me when my "postgame" speed was like 34, but 70-something "in the diamond" when actually on base and my gear/archtype/etc. was fully and "accurately" tabulated.

And... because of my "horrible" timing, controller not actually registering my lead inputs, trying to steal against 4-seam fastballs, etc., my stealing percentage is rotten enough to draw that visit to the manager's office...
So I've learned to... ignore... the steal sign until I'm closer to 80 speed "in the diamond". I "rationalize" it as "obfuscation" - manager makes the "steal" sign, nothing happens, enemy team starts to think it's one of his "distraction" moves, next thing is the "faster" players actually nab a steal.

  • Going from double a to the majors.
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

8/15. 81/84 2B/SP overalls. Finally got the call.

Of note, 8/14 game brought my 2B overall to 81, and somewhere in the intervening days Mikolas' OVR dropped to 80, suddenly making my 81 2B OVR "high enough" to qualify as third starter. Which is where I show up in the roster.

And for the record, I "went back" and loaded each of my ballplayers and am looking at the "events and awards" screen, which has first appearance dates. Might not be 100% accurate as to exact call-up date, but close enough for "research" purposes here:

Control Pitcher: 7/13 AAA, 8/3 first MLB start
Break Closer: 7/13 AAA, trade to WAS & put in AA "undated", re-promotion to AAA "undated", 8/26 first MLB appearance
    Break SP/C: 7//16 AAA, 8/16 1st MLB AB
And my "new" player, as documented above, 7/13 - 8/15...

  • Going from double a to the majors.
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

As I said yesterday, I'll post updates on #4's career, so that we can have a record / notes for comparison on this:

Player #4, received his call-up to AAA on 7/13 to field, first start 7/15, and was in Futures game. Second start 7/24, exhausted pitching arm so got 7/26 off as well as 7/25 off day. Also given 7/28 off. third start 7/30. 82 OVR in his "pitcher" loadout, 80 in his "fielding" loadout. As a SP/2B, his "competition" on the St. Louis roster is Pineda & Matz for SP at 77, with Mikolas @ 81 and Wainwright's 86. Edman is the 2B at 89.

Played to 8/10. Up to 81/82 2B/SP. Still no call up, longest AAA stint for all my players...

  • Pitching Clutch & Control
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

Besides the "in game" tasks, the only time I've ever gotten a starter some pitching clutch is if he gets pulled and a save is recorded.

And as to control, there are a few rare-ish "in game" tasks that award some "overall" control, and I usually wind up getting them on my break-oriented closer, but the individual pitch controls can only be increased by off-day work (sometimes it shows up in the training room as well). Heck, as to each pitch's 3 stats (velocity, break, control), only one of them (based on it's "type") can be increased in-game by getting non-foul strikes - the other two can only be increased on off days. Which isn't bad when, as a pure starter, you get a session between every start, but as a 2-way, who only gets sessions once a week, it's a slog.

  • Going from double a to the majors.
  • svpaladin_NSWS svpaladin_NSW

There seems to be "locks" / "hardcoding" on the promotion schedule.

I'm on my 4th RTTS ballplayer right now, and he makes it a perfect 4/4 on my players reaching AAA within a week of the ASB.

2 of the 4 made the bigs the first week (1-5) of Aug. IIRC, my "control pitcher" for STL got his call up "effective" on the 5th (his turn in the rotation) and my break starter/C made his debut 1 Aug, with his start being like the 3rd.
My closer made the bigs sometime around 8-10 Aug, because he was traded and had to "put in some time" at AA for the new club (traded from BOS's AAA to WAS, who put him right into AA for like 3 appearahces) then needed 3 more in WAS AAA before getting called up.

My 4th is a "work in progress" as to reaching the bigs. However, I'm expecting a 1 Aug callup for him, because his batting overall (which is less than his pitching one) will still be higher than the overrall of the 5th starter on STL's rotation.

And to a point I started expecting this, because my RTTS 21 player suffered almost the same fate. Control pitcher in the Royals organization, he made AAA days after the ASB (so that he got both the futures and AA ASG start) and made the majors with a first start of 5 Aug...
