    Look folks,

I am not a great player. I do not play on a computer monitor. I am totally in favor of certain pitches having unreal zip, control, movement or all of the above. However, it's just unrealistic and unenjoyable for a casual player on DD like myself to play.

I enjoy the H2H and I enjoy the variety in players chosen and faced. However, I can't be a casual player and play three games in a row vs 99 pitchers with 102 mph FB and 93 mph sliders.

I can chalk up an unbelievable 1-2 punch, maybe a 3rd kidney shot, but there has to be a solution somewhere in future years. You simply can't have a 5 man rotation of 99s that throw gas, precision, and deception. It's just not fun to always bat against an outlier.

There needs to be that game where you say, "OK, this has to be his number 4 or 5 starter. Lets go!"

I dont like to complain and I certainly lost my games fair and square tonight. But keep me clicking to play the next one, SDS.

At the end of the day, using a monitor makes a HUGE difference when it comes to seeing the ball better. It's basically mandatory to have a good monitor or good gaming tv to be able to see those frames when the pitches are coming in. There's just no way you can play The Show competivitely on a regular TV.

You can play, sure. But there will be a lot of guessing where the ball is going to go rather than seeing the ball and adjusting.

    1. Also, I think if youre the home team and go into the top of the 9th winning, and your opponent doesn't at least tie the game, you don't get credit for that inning because it wasn't a full inning.

    Lazy programming once again. Crazy.

Only pitching innings count, Extras don't, 1 pitcher must record all 3 outs in an inning

What kind of BS is that?! Is this just an accepted part of RS grinding? I got to 400 innings last season just because I had a lot of free time from work.

So I was missing on innings whenever I switched pitchers mid-inning? SMH

@halfbutt_PSN said in Possibly the weirdest game I ever played:

So I haven’t played ranked in a while. I’ve been working a lot and playing Franchise occasionally.

Tonight I decided to bust out the Mariners theme team for $hits. I’m somewhere in the 400’s this season, and I match up with a guy who has a record of like 80 wins and 120 losses.

Castillo carves him up first inning and I am hitting. Julio goes deep to CF only to be robbed by his Griffey jr.

Next inning, after not making contact on a single pitch and swinging wildly at everything, he hits a no doubter with Finest Rutschman. Ok.

He is pitching Potm Zac Gallen and throwing changeup after changeup. Edgar goes deep this time and yes, my opponent robs it AGAIN with Griffey jr in CF.

He continues swinging away and striking out with everyone until the fourth where he grounds one up the middle with Pujols, then, you guessed it, another no doubt home run with Rutschman.

So now I’m down 3-0 despite having homered twice and struck him out 6 times.

Eventually Cal RALEIGH leads off with a knock so I pinch hit Vogelbach for Castillo and hit a foul home run and another foul line drive before homering. 3-2. Thank the baseball gods.

He adds a solo shot on the first pitch from my reliever and the score stays 4-2 until bottom 9 despite my guys hitting line drive outs and warning track fly balls.

Santana pinch hits to start the last ups and homers to right. 4-3. Julio singles and he goes to the pen. This time MY Griffey jr homers and… he dashboards.

I’d forgotten how bad the gameplay can be online. I thought Franchise vs cpu was bad but boy…Good Times!

This is similar how my last ranked game went. I had my opponent at 60+ pitches in the 3rd and was losing in the 4th 3-1 bc he swung at every pitch and when he finally made contact it was a homerun...
MLB 22 is to my the WORST mlb the show ever released.

I actually enjoyed it this year. Aside from the normal BS things.

When you see the player literally swinging at everything, just keep thowing balls in the dirt. Pitch sequencing is huge too. Yes, it's different hitters, but it's the same player holding the controller. Gotta change the pitching strategy on almost every batter or just keep using whatever is working.

@lckdb_XBL said in Can't take the competitive aspect seriously at all.:

BR and Events are loaded with what sure feel like scripted outcomes. 8 foul balls followed by a ground ball that somehow the runner beats out. Then a cheap home run that was probably a no touch…

End of the day if we want to win, all we can do is put the best possible line up out there and hope theres no glitches and RNG is on our side.

And at that point, it loses its credibility as a competitive game

@lckdb_XBL said in Two questions about Battle Royale:

I typically draft all my best players as hitters since I don’t chase 12-0. Pay close attention to the objectives and make sure you max out XP on all the BR program cards.

Honestly the best way to get BR done is to message your opponent and agree to allow 10 runs per half inning on purpose. Folks are more likely to agree if you promise them the win, which if you aren’t chasing 12-0 is all good. With this method I usually get 100 BR points within the first few days.

But why cheat a game that we're all going to stop playing in a few months anyway

@roosr_NSW said in Mini Seasons and a rant.:

SDS clearly wants everyone to play every mode, even though most players don't really enjoy some of them. I play pretty much everything except for battle royale. Ranked seasons are a mindless grind and events can be fun a few games at a time. They can shoot showdowns into the sun I hate that mode so much.

Showdowns are okay in my book. What sucked for me was the "Other" Programs. Specifically the monthly's. By the time you put all that work in for the lightning player, there's like 6+ other cards that are identical and cost you practically nothing to get 😆

I really tried to get Alvarez lightning card but there was just WAY too much left to do to get him. I'd rather just pick any other card that is basically better than him and just go play RS.

For a game that has run it's life in less than a year...the grind needed to enjoy some of these "other programs" is laughable.

  • Possibly the weirdest game I ever played
  • JayCruise21_PSNJ JayCruise21_PSN

Gameplay cant be taken too seriously. I just played a LOT of The Show this past week, and there are just too many "off PCI" that are hits and "Good" PCI and timing that leads to easy outs, pop-outs etc.

Once you get closer to that 700 range in RS, those PCI's are getting tiny. At that point, gotta load up your team with the highest rated players and hope RNG treats you well once you finally are able to time up a pitch.

I stopped trying TOO hard and decided to buy Tatis Jr. for fun and have been starting him at 2nd base. A lot of strikeouts there lol

I feel you, I cannot tell you the amount of times my game just disconnects from the internet or crashed when I'm up in a ranked game or event game.

Yeah I feel you. Thats frustrating. But when the issue is totally out of our hands is what kills it for me.

  • Can't take the competitive aspect seriously at all.
  • JayCruise21_PSNJ JayCruise21_PSN

I play RS exclusively because it feels rewarding but if I get screwed over, it's not the end of the day. "The show" goes on.

So, I've been having fun lately, decided to switch over to BR. Second game in, I'm dotting everything with my low 80's pitcher, against the other team and his 99 takashi Shohei.

0-0 all the way until the bottom of the 3rd (playing my tail off), he ends up w/ guys on 1st&2nd. He tries to steal third but I throw over and my 3rdbasemen gets STUCK IN AN ANIMATION, so the runner stops to turn back but then realizes that I'm stuck, so the other player obviously turns around and easily takes 3rd..

After I bust my [censored] to try to win, and lose like that....made me turn the game off for the rest of the night.

I know it's just a game, but [censored] it's deflating to a The Show fan, when stuff like that happens. Players getting stuck in an animation should not happen in a game that you guys literally are "working on" all year round.

Ok. I’ve had a few rums. (I’m in Uk. Don’t judge it’s well past lunch time ha!)

I play a game of ranked.

I am perfect gamed through 8 innings by Luis Castillo. My semi drunk 37 year old self is swinging at everything. (Bear in mind I’ve never been perfected or no hit in any show)

Luckily, so is he. I’ve got Marcus Stroman on the mound purely to get the 500 PXP mission.

    It’s 0-0. He has 3 hits.

It’s the bottom of the 8th. He decided to take out Castillo for a pinch hitter!! No good. Goes to the last inning.

He brings on Hesley. I’m 2 outs, I bring on Brett. 1-2 count. My brain learnt he goes up and in when he can’t get me to chase low. Bang. 1-0. HR.

I give up two hits in the bottom of the 9th but hold out for a 1-0 win.

Anyway. Despite the fact it was a terrible boring game.

Why did my man take out Castillo?!

It may not be as fun when its a 1-0,2-0 game..But personally that gets me hype when I'm able to finally figure out the other player's pitching strategy by the last few innings, guess right on a pitch and absolutely nuke one to take the lead.

It's so demoralizing playing that well, only to make 1 pitching mistake that causes you to lose. 40 minutes of game time just to take an L. OOF

  • JayCruise21_PSNJ JayCruise21_PSN

As much as I hate on SDS, I'm still playing/enjoying. Mainly because I'm a baseball fan though. And you have to remind yourself that RNG is a thing in this game, so don't expect to be rewarded every single time you time/line up a pitch. It's not always a hit.

It's an arcade baseball game that plays like a simulation. That's how I play/see it.

  • Freeze-Off's
  • JayCruise21_PSNJ JayCruise21_PSN

Once again it happened. The amount of gaming time it takes to get up to inning 6 or 7 of a really good game, only for the game to freeze, is so infuriating. I literally put the controller down and just went to bed. Any other multiplayer community would be outraged lol. Oh well.

Take it or leave it. That's how it is 'round these parts. I played/grinded hard in The Show 21. And now that game is totally off my hard drive, with this year's iteration about to do the same come April. No point in getting too upset over The Show.

Just play for fun, collect/grind for cards that you enjoy, and just dont take it too seriously. I've seen multiple The Show youtubers get to the point of saying they will probably stop playing this game, lol. It's not skill based. I've won and lost so many games that I had no business winning or losing. RNG reigns supreme.

“It’s not skill based” 😂. Ok buddy. It’s just super random that I keep hitting my ceiling at the low 800’s (which even getting there) and then almost immediately get crushed. It’s also super random that I regularly smoke dudes in the 400’s and 500’s. But yeah, it’s all RNG…

I'm not saying it's completely RNG, but for the most part, yeah, people are going to get hits and strikeouts just off of a percentage probability that is built into the code.

There are still skill levels to a degree, but it's not something for the casual player will even really notice.

Honestly, that is the best advice. I avoided buying 22 for half the year, but finding an opponent on 21 has gotten a bit more difficult now.

I’d forgotten how infuriating it can be to have to grind moments for everything.

The grind required to finish programs this year are just too big of an ask. I have only done 1 maybe 2. I'm not spending my free time doing the same moment over and over and over. Only for a card at the end which has PLENTY of substitutes available that are very similar and much less of a hassle to get.
