I understand getting beat by an opponent.
Last two ranked games played
Game 1:
2-1 win, score in the bottom of the 9th. 5 hits for me 2 for them. They struck out 18 times, me 2.Game 2:
4-3 loss, give up a 2 run walk off HR. I have 13 hits, they have 4. They strike out 20 times, me 4.I’ll never say I’m the greatest at this game, and strange things happen in baseball, but [censored]. I can’t help but feel like there are factors in play that are more than just user skill.
Usually I wouldn’t complain, but I feel like there are games like this more often than not lately. I still love the game but [censored] lol.
It's been this way for a while now unfortunately and no sign of it changing. Remember when they were marketing " Stick Skills Reign Supreme"...... What a joke.

Even without the actual numbers you can tell if your opponent is good based on plate discipline, if they can stay back on off speed, catch up to a fastball etc…..typically when you check the box score it matches the skill level you could see with your opponent.
I have games like you are describing occasionally. I just try not to get angry and it balances out.

Feel your pain. I just lost to a guy who was hitting under .200 with most of his team and couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat for half the game. Then started fouling off pitches he should even of made contact with. Then proceeded to start blasting homers like a WS player. Literally could throw nothing to him. Balls in the dirt, over his head etc. Hit or fouled off everything. Only happened after I opened up a lead on him. Like you said, don’t mind losing to someone better but this game is more RNG/Scripted based than skill based.

If that's true though, (and I do think there is to much RNG, but skill does win out at the macro-level), why is he hitting under .200 with all his hitters? Could it be because the majority of the time he isn't rewarded?

Had multiple 13/14 PCI outs in an event game last night ..Then my opponent goes opposite yard blast with a 10 PCI to take the lead 1-0. Quit / Power down the PS5.
Earlier in the night I had a P/P with LOTF Ray Durham off of Randy Johnson. It was an easy fly ball out that didn't make the track.
It was a fun night.. this game is fun. I like this game.

I really think that SDS should get rid of all the feedback data. Back in the day we accepted brokenness because the broken thing itself didn't confirm its brokenness with data it freely provided. But I guess that ship has sailed...
-
Stop playing this game, it is trash and they don’t even have the balls to admit it hitting sucks, they hide behind content and “works as intended”.
This is why Ozzie Smith has power vs LHP, the game is flawed.
-
Fwiw, I think the gameplay has pretty much been “take it or leave it” for about as long as I can remember. Every so often, it seems SDS makes an effort to rope us back in by promoting a feature designed to make “stick skills reign supreme”, but invariably these features also get nerfed.
So long as there is no competitor in the genre, I think it really is take it or leave it.

Take it or leave it. That's how it is 'round these parts. I played/grinded hard in The Show 21. And now that game is totally off my hard drive, with this year's iteration about to do the same come April. No point in getting too upset over The Show.
Just play for fun, collect/grind for cards that you enjoy, and just dont take it too seriously. I've seen multiple The Show youtubers get to the point of saying they will probably stop playing this game, lol. It's not skill based. I've won and lost so many games that I had no business winning or losing. RNG reigns supreme.
-
Honestly, that is the best advice. I avoided buying 22 for half the year, but finding an opponent on 21 has gotten a bit more difficult now.
I’d forgotten how infuriating it can be to have to grind moments for everything.

The grind required to finish programs this year are just too big of an ask. I have only done 1 maybe 2. I'm not spending my free time doing the same moment over and over and over. Only for a card at the end which has PLENTY of substitutes available that are very similar and much less of a hassle to get.

“It’s not skill based” . Ok buddy. It’s just super random that I keep hitting my ceiling at the low 800’s (which even getting there) and then almost immediately get crushed. It’s also super random that I regularly smoke dudes in the 400’s and 500’s. But yeah, it’s all RNG…

I’m guessing a big cause of this type of loser sentiment is leaving pitchers in too long. I seem to hear a lot of the complainers claim “this guy couldn’t hit anything for 8 innings and then all of a sudden he hits a 3 run HR and I lost and where’s my mommy!” As someone who always swings at too many bad pitches and has a terrible average, I eventually start figuring out the pitcher and as he gets tired, stuff can happen. I’ve gotten a lot of W’s because people don’t go to the pen early enough. Or they bring in a clown like Clase or Britton who are really easy for me to hit, so I can go from getting dominated to winning pretty fast as long as I can keep it close.
-
I praise them in some areas and curse them in others. They definitely need the Nike applied to their kabosses this year

I'm not saying it's completely RNG, but for the most part, yeah, people are going to get hits and strikeouts just off of a percentage probability that is built into the code.
There are still skill levels to a degree, but it's not something for the casual player will even really notice.
