I cant hit. Its depressing. I'm stating to hate this game.
  • I ICantHelpFalling

I posted this is in the MLB the Show Reddit, but I'm trying to get as much feedback because I hope its not just me.

Hitting is hard right now. It feels almost impossible after recent patches.

When I came over from 19 - my first MLB the Show - I sucked at hitting but managed to pitch pretty well. Now in 20, I cant do either - with the exception of the first week of the game where I could manage a few runs before that horrid patch.

Now I know I suck at hitting in 20. On RS I linger between 370 to 470 and have yet to break 500.

Im lucky if I score one run in a game. I played a 13 inning game where me any my opponent only had 2 hits a piece up until the 9th inning and neither of us were using any OP pitchers. (My lineup is almost all diamonds)

Its depressing. I feel like I'm trying to hit a golfball that's remote controlled to deliberately and precisely avoid coming close to my bat.

I got so fed up I changed to directional so I could just forget about the PCI and I got a lucky home run off it. Changed back to zone and I can't get a hit.

Late on low 90s fastballs and above. Early on high 90s fastballs. Late on offspeed. Popping up virtually every pitch regardless. To top it off I'll give up a solo or something on an actual good located pitch and that's all my opponent needs to win.

It's so depressing that I have to wonder... What's the actual point of grinding or even buying great players if I can barely get any hits? What's the fcking point in wasting all that time for no fcking tangible reward?

You might as well not even bother with online play. Feels like a gut punch every single [censored] game.

It's already affecting how I feel about the rest of the game. Flipping stubs is very time consuming with the current margins, but I keep at it so i can save up to slowly finish collections. But if I cant hit at all, no matter the player, why am I wasting my time?

I'm at the point where I dont want to actually play this game at all anymore. Never thought I'd get to this point.

I used to look forward to logging on and grinding out some daily challenges. It was fun. Playing as a crappy all Rangers team on RS even though I'd knew I'd lose almost every game was enjoyable because I knew I'd get Gallo. Same for the Padres to get Tahtis.

Now it feels like a minimum wage job that you cant wait to leave and rush home to play video games. I'm now tempted to play just about anything else.

I'm a casual, but I like grinding to get better players so I can have a chance at some actual fun - like scoring a few runs in a game even if I lose. With these recent patches that's getting harder and harder to do, let alone be a possibility.

Can you imagine how someone just starting off with a bronze team in RS will feel after a few games?

Every game is now basically going to be that feeling of a despairing fail that makes you want to simply stop playing. It really sucks because theres so much great stuff in this game, but that seems to irrelevant when I cant actually do the two things you are supposed to be able to do in a baseball game; hit and pitch.

  • All this grinding for what
  • I ICantHelpFalling

Honestly this is a good thing.

I've got Trout, Mantle, and Ruth which are endgame cards which take alot of grinding. Their stats are still far better than any Topps Now cards in terms of end game. Consider these Topps Now cards. What do most of them all seem to have in common?

They all hit for power. Tons of 100+ power cards, often for both sides.

That's a smart move from SDS considering that most players - specifically newer ones - find it very rewarding to hit a homerun even if they lose. It's the perfect incentive for new players and casuals who might not necessarily be huge baseball fans. They might actually just stick around to play another game of RS or events if they at least feel like they have a chance to score some runs.

At this stage in the game, those are probably the exact players SDS wants to get in here. If these new players get hooked somewhat and invest some more time, they'll find a huge wealth of content for them to grind. However, they won't get to that point if they can't compete in the slightest against grinded God squads that trounce them and make them simply say, "forget it" and just exit the Show and play a different game.

Give em a carrot and perhaps they get the incentive to dig around the rest of the garden.

  • Remove All Star difficulty from Ranked Seasons
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    Dude.

You'd lose a huge amount of the player base, myself included. You'd end stuck playing literally the best players in RS as that's all that would be left.

Alot of players already struggle on Allstar, myself included. HOF difficulty with games decided by a solo homerun and 50 strikeouts will absolutely kill RS and possibly the game entirely for people who are just starting out.

  • What do you all do for work in the real world
  • I ICantHelpFalling

In today's politically charged climate, this seems like a bad thread idea...

I assume you all have mortgages to pay and kids to feed. You never know who is digging through your social media feed from 2008 trying to see if any popular opinion you expressed back then that's heresy now and if it can be used to get you fired from your job.

Remember everyone, your company will sacrifice you the second there's a possibility of bad PR drummed up by newly created anonymous Twitter accounts even, if you've been there for 15 years. That's the world we live in now.

  • Pssst! SDS!! Wanna make a few hundo???
  • I ICantHelpFalling

@SchnauzerFace said in Pssst! SDS!! Wanna make a few hundo???:

My dearest, SDS (with a comma after “dearest”),

I am willing to spend some serious fish to complete the collection if the reward is any of the following:

    1. Josh Gibson
    2. Hank Aaron
    3. Roberto Clemente
    4. Joe DiMaggio
    5. Shoeless Joe
    6. Yogi

I am not willing to spend fish of any amount if the reward is any of the following:

    1. Derek Jeter
    2. Any Cubs

All other cards considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Please plan accordingly.

    Sincerely,

Dr. Schnauzer Q. Face III, Esq.

LOL. See, this is the problem with some sox fans. They dislike the Cubs more than they like their own team.

I've literally been to games at Miller Park where the Cubs were playing the Brewers and Sox fans were there rooting for the Brewers instead of actually at Comiskey watching the Sox. (Yea i still call it Comiskey. )

I'm a lifelong Cubs fan through years of the Cubs sucking, but just as I rooted for the Sox in 2005, id hands down go for any great Sox legend that SDS put out.

  • Cobb or Walker??
  • I ICantHelpFalling

Cobb is endgame. Walker can be too.

Question is: How big of a deal is Walkers 20+more arm strength or so?

Not that much in my opinion. Cobb has 73? Plenty enough to get the job done. Seriously, how often does arm strength come into play each game at key moments? Rarely. Even on plays to the plate its usually not enough of a factor to throw out someone with enough speed. Think about that.

Walker has more power to some extent, but that maxed contact by Cobb on both sides means he will be invaluable on HOF and higher. Plus 99 speed means he will tear up the base paths as well as run down anything in the OF.

  • What to do with Willie Mays
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    Definitely sell him.

Gets me that much closer to my 1 mil buy order for him being filled.

    Anyone else getting this?

  • SDS please take friendly quit out . ITS SOFT
  • I ICantHelpFalling

Meh. FQs have their use - especially when you have young kids. Or perhaps you don't want to face Kluber for the 8th time in 10 games or you'd like to play somewhere that's NOT Shippet.

It takes a second to decline. If you are still irritated with them, then that's on you dude.

  • at this point in the year, what's your RS record?
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    55 - 71.

Plenty of quits in there too for inning grinds for TA.

I'm always kind of glad I have a losing record. Makes people underestimate me a bit and slack a bit sometimes. (Note that only matters if I can actually hit that particular game.)

  • Walker for Cole
  • I ICantHelpFalling

Mantle is still the best player in the game, so yes. Plus you get stubs back for completing the AL east, AL, and trout himself.

  • Judge price still lowISH
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    Im not sure.

Some people were stocking piling him as they figured he would go 90+. I bought 4 of him at 28k a few days ago. Now thinking I should have sold when he was up 43k. Not sure if he will go back up or not.

  • Roberto Alomar CAP
  • I ICantHelpFalling

@MLBTHEJOE said in Roberto Alomar CAP:

Instead of dropping a ton of stubs on Alomar
I went ahead and made a CAP 2nd basemen.
    (I haven’t made a CAP since the show 18)
And with all the best equipment you can get. Just the gold version I have right now with the equipment stats wise looks better than the BR version of Alomar. I know people don’t like the CAP,but i pretty much got a Juiced up Alomar for 60k stubs in equipment. Can’t wait until I get the Diamond version

Balanced or power when you hit 85 and 88 diamond?

  • Just bought the game...
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    Do Topps now moments.

You can get 98 and 99 overall cards that are pretty decent. Also do the conquest maps. The free packs and stubs should get you going with some decent picks.

You could also grind Jackie Robinson in the meantime. (He can play 1b, 2b, 3b, and I think even LF and can be end game.)

Alot easier to field a cheap team this year than it was in 19. Some of the Topps now players they put in the last 2 months have insane power stats that makes you competitive right away.

  • Best hitting view
  • I ICantHelpFalling

@boomy_91 said in Best hitting view:

I switched from Strike Zone to Zoom and found that it's easier to get harder hits. I had a 26 hit game on all-star, before jumping back into hall of fame games this ranked season.

With the extended view and ability to see the batter, it's easier to swing at the ball in accordance with the batter's stance. This creates more swings that are on the early side of good, which seems to be the meta this year.

    Thank you.

This is a nice bit of detail about why zoom might help - specifically on trying to get earlier swings. I didn't notice this about zoom before, but I've seen some videos on trying to swing when your batter steps for the best timing. That's pretty hard to do in SZ2 as maybe you see part of their leg if they have a more noticeable stepping motion. In SZ2 its impossible.

I've personally switched to Mlb Show 16 view a few times if im struggling with SZ2. I noticed I can hit pitches that break horizontally such as cutters and sliders a bit better. Also seemed to be able to recognize fastballs a bit better.

One thing that might really help is pitching with that same view you're batting with. It will help you recognize balls faster as well as good pitches to hit.

  • STOP DASHBOARDING!
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    Meh.

If I've lost several games in a row, the game hangs one of my pitches on good or perfect input, and the other player gets a homerun... 50% chance I'm turning off my ps4 before I throw my controller at the wall or my monitor.

Sometimes it just gets that frustrating.

Usually I try to let the homerun land so players can get stats, but when the game has been [censored] me for multiple games in a row - especially in events where I'll play over an hour and not get a single win, well the ps4 might be going off. (If I've already almost broken my controller that day....)

Note this is specific to this event. I want the Goose and I have 43 wins.

Also what this guy said, 100%:

"i dashboard in events because i am rushing to get the Goose - if i am matched with tons of constant BR12-0 or WS guys, take the W please by all means - i will jump back in to play a lesser mortal and get W's as quick as possible"

  • Just fix hitting... that's all we ask.
  • I ICantHelpFalling

@onnagood1 said in Just fix hitting... that's all we ask.:

That's all we ask? Who's we? I feel like you're standing alone on this one. If we had a vote on the ability to fix one thing, I don't believe the majority would choose hitting as you described.

Although getting good timing/good pci go for outs may be frustrating and a valid issue amongst some, I feel like pitch accuracy and check-swinging issues would be in the forefront of gameplay issues. At least that's what seems to be the consensus based on previous posts in this community forum.

    Yep.

Pitch accuracy. Basically every game is a slugfest because of how many hangers the game forces. This shouldn't be.

I dont know what happened, but the pitching is 19 wasn't like this.

Good players already score a ton of runs, but aren't able to keep below a 4 era? Pitching is broken - especially offspeed and breaking pitches forcing a meta that involves the sinker and cutter focus. Top that off with often needing velocity to make your pitcher usable.

Movement and guys with incredible breaking stuff should be usable and competitive. Curveball should actually be useful. Pitchers with nasty breaking stuff should have insane h9s or something to reflect how hard it is to square up their stuff.

That makes things arguably even worse pitching wise.

  • I made a video to help you read pitches out of the hand, and have better timing!
  • I ICantHelpFalling

@aaronjw76 said in I made a video to help you read pitches out of the hand, and have better timing!:

THIS is how you do a tips video! Focus on real things that can help a player in the things that matter most. Not 5 mins out of 10 spent on settings that the same people regurgitate ad nauseam and think they are providing something actually worth watching.

    Well done OP! Well done.

    This 100x times.

Actual methods to use rather then the usual "tip" videos that barely tell you anything. This most feels like an instructional video that a hitting guide would create if there were one for this game.

  • Will you keep playing if the 2020 season gets the axe?
  • I ICantHelpFalling

Probably, but I don't think I'd buy 21 for sure.

Honestly they shouldnt put out 21 till there is an actual season played.

  • If you’re that guy...
  • I ICantHelpFalling

    Isnt this a good thing?

It means less control for sure, so alot more pitches probably hanging over the middle of the plate and if its for 2 plus innings in the event, then Kenley is definitely in the red meaning you are gonna hit the ball way harder - so a few homeruns coming your way.

    I'll take this personally.
