If you’re that guy who starts Kenley Jansen in an event game, then pitches him 2 1/3 innings slide stepping on every pitch, plain and simple, you are a giant douchebag.
Sorry, no way around it.
PLOT TWIST: @halfbutt is "that guy"
DUN DUN DUN!!!! -
Look guys, maybe name calling wasn’t the best approach, but the problem here is not my inability to hit Jansen. It could be any pitcher, really.
For a game that puts SO much emphasis on “realism”, attributes, roster updates, nerfing hitting until user batting stats are within acceptable ranges, etc, etc, it makes zero sense to allow a pitcher to balk on every pitch for an entire game.
This is further compounded by glitchy deliveries of certain players. If you guys are ok with that, go ahead and keep using them.
Maybe instead, you could practice actually pitching well, you know, changing speeds, mixing your pitches, hitting your spots...
-
balks are turned off during online. Otherwise people would have to come set every single pitch, and nobody wants that

Nobody wants that?
I want that. I’m sure there are others that do as well.
I realize that we don’t want the game to take forever to play, but there is a reason there is no “quick pitch balk” setting in the game’s practice mode.
Heck, if there were a way to make the cpu quick pitch in practice mode like some of you do online, then there would be some merit to buddy’s suggestion above.
Unfortunately, there isn’t, so you guys that are pitching this way are kinda cheesing...

except everyone pitches this way. at least, everyone I face. It is much more difficult to make the majority of the player base adapt than to just have the minority of the player base adjust

While I agree with some of what you're saying you lose me when you make the Chisholm assumption that anyone who disagrees with you does what you are complaining about. Some of us play legit and don't get mad at every little thing, even holding r2 doesn't bother me because I do sometimes to check pitch history so unless someone spams it I give the. The benefit of the doubt.

I'm the same way. Not everyone that does cheesy things is a cheeser, if you will. Occasionally doing things that might annoy others is fine when you sense that they aren't repeatedly doing it

Exactly, certain things when used strategically like bunt or r2 as opposed to being abused are one of those things. Not cheesy when used occasionally, extra cheese when spammed.

Yeah, that is a fair comment, and you’re right. Most of the time I do just deal with the occasional slide stepping quick pitch when runners are on.
I would disagree in that I don’t think everyone plays that way online. It’s certainly a common way players hold runners, but it’s not the only way.
Also, I recognize this is sometimes a counter to other cheesy play on the basepaths.
For me, it’s about avoiding the extremes. I thought doing it every pitch for 2 1/3 was extreme.
-
Isnt this a good thing?
It means less control for sure, so alot more pitches probably hanging over the middle of the plate and if its for 2 plus innings in the event, then Kenley is definitely in the red meaning you are gonna hit the ball way harder - so a few homeruns coming your way.
I'll take this personally.
-
I mean it’s a good thing if you like facing a glitched delivery and a million pitches just above or just below the zone.
Hey, if you guys are ok with this, so be it. Personally, I find it to be a completely broken aspect of gameplay.

U keep saying glitched delivery? Am I missing something? Kenley has the same delivery he's always had and there isn't anything glitchy about it. He's tough to hit because every pitch has tons of break and good speed differential thats it.
It sounds like u need to take more pitches and work the counts if your letting a rp go 2 and a 1/3rd in a 3 inning game. -
His delivery, when slide-stepping continuously, skips a bunch of the animation.
Sure, taking pitches and working the count would help, no doubt.
I find Kenley hard enough to hit without the balk delivery.
-
@halfbutt said in If you’re that guy...:
Let me guess, you use slidestep every pitch when using Kenley?
I actually didn't even get jansen until today and yet to use him in the game!
but no, i don't use it that often per se, i use it as part of mixing in other pitches out of the stretch, i might throw 2 4smrs back 2 back, with one out of the slidestep just to present a different look.
-
@Kovz88 said in If you’re that guy...:
I would prefer someone slidestepping over someone pausing and taking forever. Especially the added perk of them having less control.
the big thing i've noticed last couple days is people rapid fire pausing and unpausing... like the only person's flow you're screwing up is your own and at that point, just take the L and quit if you need the bush league stuff like that.

I call those guys online casual noobs.
-
You know slide stepping takes away a lot of the effectiveness of a pitch and allows them to get crushed much more often, just saying. I would never complain about a guy slide stepping.
