They have moved so slow with the power creep, and because they consistently put out better and higher overall chase pack cards, these content drops are rather pointless. Hear me out here, ok.
If someone doesn’t have live series done, I imagine they are mostly no money spent, they should be absolutely selling everything, and I mean everything to be getting it done. Let’s say you don’t want to sell off cards (I didn’t either) you still shouldn’t be out spending your stubs on these pack cards. Getting those end game 99s is awesome and totally worth it.
Now let’s look at guys like me, A NMS grinder. I have the vast majority of the best cards in the game and I’m a little under 400k stubs. Seager and Schwarbs are both great cards to have, but I already have P5 93 Willie Castro at short. I love Seager’s swing, but I don’t think I would replace a P5 93 switch hitter for a 93 lefty. My DH is P5 92 Santana and my catcher is P5 92 Posada. I would never put 92 Schwarbs in the outfield, so again, not moving the needle for me. 95 Vlad looks great, but I have P5 99 Rolen at third and P5 99 Hodges at first. Sure he could be my DH, but is he that much of an upgrade from Santana? I really don’t think so. We have a big collection coming up, along with the new retro lightning card, wouldn’t I just be better served to wait, save up some more stubs so I can be as close as possible to completing those as I can?
Again, if you are an all money spend player, your team probably already looks like mine. Would any of this content move the needle for them or would they just wait to purchase more stubs when the collection comes out?
They are putting the best cards behind chase packs and quickly ticking up the chase pack overall, but keeping other pack and program card’s lower. With this model, they have basically made other pack cards and programs irrelevant. Just finish live series and buy the chase cards! You’ll always have the best team.
I would love to see what data they are looking at because from the outside looking in, their content model doesn’t seem to make sense at all.
