Market summary so far this year
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

@oreorockstar_mlbts said in Market summary so far this year:

It is going to be a huge grind it appears this year.. You can make stubs like the guy above said, but you have to ask yourself what is your time and energy worth. I have always flipped and made more stubs than I can spend, but my time is more valuable to me than 500 stub flips for hours and hours, so I am probably not doing it unless later game it opens up.

Before anyone takes offense, to each their own. No judgement for those that are flipping all day with small margins

This is pretty much exactly how I feel about it. Last year was my first year to play DD and flipping was beyond easy. I finished the year with tons of unused stubs. As much as I like the "collect them all" mentality, I am great with a game that causes me to choose what I have and build a team that works for me. The Griffey collection came so late in the year last year that I feel like I hardly used him. I am not going to lose sleep at night even if I miss out on collections involving my favorite players.

  • Margins in Market
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

Last year was my first year and I started flipping from day one. Nobody ever said a word to me about it, there were just clear and obvious margins all over the place. I flipped LS diamonds like crazy until I went on to other more efficient means. I do think there are some things that "should" open up some margins as the year goes along, but this year is vastly different than last. I think new exchange values and less free packs are partly involved.

  • How are you making any money on the market?
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

@raesone_psn said in How are you making any money on the market?:

Doesn't really matter what item you flip, just look for decent amounts between the sell now and buy now listings. Also remember quantity over quality, it's better to flip a ton of items for let's say 200 stubs per flip than to look for hitting the jackpot on every flip.

This is the way! My thoughts on flipping are in order of importance...#1 Volume, #2 Ease of the Flip, #3 Margin. If I can do something a lot and with ease, then the margin is much less important. Try and think about things that are happening in the game and the things people are buying and selling.

Last year was my first year and I learned a lot as the year went along. The thing that I always did was think about why something worked when it did. I would try to flip something and then would realize that it worked well or didn't work well. I would always take time to think about that and it really helped me out as the season went. The way I flip will change as the year goes along...there are just different elements that bring on the volume necessary to really make flipping worthwhile.

There are also a lot of things over the next few weeks that should open up some more margins on things. I feel like once games start and people start seeing how players are doing and you have inside edge changing day to day, it can really bring in some bigger margins.

IRL Babe wouldn't even know what to do against Chris Sale, let's be honest.

That was the result of my moment...Babe looked like he was from a different century and had no clue what games was being played. And I'm not good at this game...Sale just is.

    fernando(pitches deep)
    sale(pitches deep)
    madbum(soldier, excellent sweeping curve)
kopech(shocked at how well he pitches for an 87 ovr)
    danny 84ovr(pitched well)
    maddux(havent used yet)
    pedro(not impressed)

i cant hit tho...i lose games because i cant put up 5 or 6 runs.....

wanna get 92 ovr nolan. faced him a few days ago. he was throwing 100mph in the 9th......he was virtually un hittable

I had the 92 Nolan and loved him...Sold him to buy Degrom and now I am deciding whether to learn to use Degrom or go back to cheaper Nolan and have fun throwing all pitches in any situation....knowing the fastball is always there for when you need it.

  • LS prices going down?
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

@savefarris_psn said in LS prices going down?:

You're not buying the LS card persay. You're buying pieces of Chipper/Ortiz/Soriano.

And yeah, all those collection rewards are going to be important whenever the mega Honus/Trout collection drops mid-year.

So what if you only complete AL or NL...and only end up with one of the 99's and not all three. Asking for a friend...

    https://twitter.com/mlbtheshow shows Wrigley Field.

Hint of playing in 1970s and 1980s.

Hint that this is an Awards series card.

1979 MVP Dave Kingman MVP Awards series card.

    MLB the Show 20: 92 Overall Prime: Contact R/L 76/100, Power R/L 102/117, Vision 70

You have to win an MVP to get an MVP/awards card... Kingman never won anything...

I've been reading through this thread trying to remember the year Kingman won MVP and wondering that in the world happened in '79 when I was one year old. If Kingman had won an MVP baseball was beyond crazy.

  • LS prices going down?
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

This is my first year playing and I am in a very similar situation. I have completed most teams and can complete the big ones without much trouble. But I just have a hard time spending the stubs on some of these that I know I won't play or would rather have a cheaper option of someone I prefer that is not Live Series. I find myself not buying a cheaper card of a player I like because I want to save the funds for LS cards that I won't use. I get the 99's I would miss out on...but I guess being my first year I don't know how important those are long term.

  • jason bay or lee smith?
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

I agree with all the Mattingly comments...but I am wondering what are the better 1st base options at this point? The Musial is very similar to the Mattingly in that there is not enough power for this game. The Vlad POTM isn't great against lefties and his defense is terrible. Freddie is ok.... I liked the Prince when I used it in BR, but that was a very limited sample size.

  • How's your starting rotation doing?
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

Cole, Sale, Burnes, Verlander (personal favorite of mine...I just seem to pitch well with him). Lately I have been testing out Bauer because he gives me fits when people use him against me...just so hard to pick up the rotation. I got Degrom finally two days ago and haven't pitched well with him...maybe I am working off he fastball too much. I blow away hitters in conquest games with him, but online was different.

  • Would you ever buy stubs to make stubs
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

I would definitely pay for stubs in a situation like this. I have a 16 year old who has a similar schedule...it is baseball season right now and he gets pretty frustrated at my ability to make stubs. I explain to him that he has such little time to play that he uses his time to play...where I spend way too much time playing the market. My wife always says "Time is money and money is time". While you can play for a few minutes and get a few stubs to start...it is easier to start with a bit more. This is my first year playing and while I was able to make stubs...the process got faster once I pulled Acuna and sold him. Then I had enough to really do something with.

  • How Important Are Boss Cards? (What is Needed for Summer Collection?)
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

New player this year and I keep hearing about cards you will need for the summer collection. So, how important are things like Boss cards? My thinking is that selling mine can help me keep working through completing live series. However, I would hate to later find out that not only should I not have sold it, but I should have tracked down the others as well.

Along with that...what things are most important to complete for the Summer Collection?

As a new player I feel like I have done a good job figuring things out so far, but threads like this do make me wonder what in the heck I am doing. This
"summer collection" is just mystical to me at this point and it sounds like every card in the game will be trash outside of Chipper, Ortiz and Soriano. I find myself now wondering what in the world I should be doing and if finishing Live Series is even worth it.

Thanks...and I worded that poorly. Wasn't meaning "additional credit" like a bonus...was just asking about what you said of being able to get it done quicker. I am definitely going to test out this method today.

  • Grinding is the way forward
  • crashbowman_MLBTSC crashbowman_MLBTS

Do you actually get additional credit for multiple players from the same division? I guess the way it was worded I was thinking whether it was one or nine, I was just getting one inning credit.
