    Conquest primer?
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

There are a lot of YouTube videos out there and at the start of the year I watched some of them because I just hated conquest. I had never played risk or anything like it and just couldn't get a feel for it. There was something super simple that I started doing that has made conquest light years easier. None of the videos I had watched said it, but I am sure it is on every other conquest video that I haven't watched.

Conquest is so much easier when you take over as much unoccupied space as you can at the start. The more space you hold, the more reinforcements you get. For instance this 7th inning Kraken map has tons of unoccupied space you can grab right from the start and then you are getting like 40 reinforcements each time. The videos I would watch showed the guys surrounding their stronghold and then going straight for the next closest team. While that does work, it seems that taking over the entire map comes much quicker if you can just grab as much unoccupied space before you start attacking.

It is always important to check the goals before starting...I always like to know how much I have to steal and all before I start a map...of if I have to take over a specific stronghold by a certain turn. I absolutely hate to steal and will skip it unless I just have to for a reward or XP bonus.

But nothing he is saying is wrong....game is completely random. Some people would prefer to truly win or truly lose, rather than just the dice roll determine it.

I’ll second this…Negro League Players, Jerseys, Programs could do wonders for this game.

You pretty much have it right...showdown or going online. Otherwise you stick at 98. I think one of the easiest tasks might be the K's with White Sox players. I think that was a straight online mission, but I can't remember for sure. If you go into BR or Events, you will come across some free swingers.

Great post...my family has developed a fascination with KC as well. Don't know why, but we just love the town. We took a family trip a few year's back and then stopped for night this year on the way to Minnesota. When my boys found out we were stopping in KC, you would have thought we were stopping at Disney World. The museum is awesome and when my oldest son and myself went, the president of the museum Bob Kendrick met us when we walked in and just started filling us with stories. Arthur Bryant's and Gate's is not too far away either, so KC BBQ is in the neighborhood also.

I think next year would be cool...but I would be all for 6th inning this year having the bosses as Satch, Gibson and Cool Papa Bell. Along with unlocking negro league jersey's along the way.

  • We need this fixed in gameplay: Perfect swings resulting in outs
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

I really don't have a problem with perfect/perfects being outs. That is real baseball if I have ever seen it. The one I don't get is PCI nowhere near the ball and it leaving the yard. I get it if PCI is barely on it or just off it...but nowhere near it makes no sense.

  • MLB The Show 21: End of Year Review
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

First year player and most of it has been great. I mean I am still playing, so that says something right there...however online gameplay is a nightmare.

    Core Game-8
I have rarely played it until the past few weeks, but it is a good game with a lot of good options and from my limited experience...the games play like real baseball games. Bullpens are used...you can run on certain outfielders and not others, etc.

    Now ...Diamond Dynasty

    Content-9.5
Sure you can complain that we don't have 99s of guys like Griffey and Ruth at this point and it is frustrating...but the amount of free content is insane and there has been a steady stream all year...Topps Now, POTM, Player Programs, Evolution, Conquest Maps, Showdown, etc. There is almost always something new and at this point I could field about 10 different teams full of players I love. I get no Griffey and Ruth...it is a business for SDS.

    Offline Game Modes-6
I have no problem with Showdown...I actually think it is what it is designed to be. High drama boosted players with big rewards at the end. With moments I get tired of them because there are so many, but they are fine. When it comes to Conquest...I have gotten to where I don't hate it. But if I want to play offline games, I don't really want to simulate hexagons. I want to play games.

The shining star of offline is Extra Innings. Most people playing DD want to use their best players against someone else's best players in a nine inning format. Extra innings is exactly that for offline...but it ends there. This needs to be expanded to something like a mini-season style format or something. I would love to see a program path or something built into Extra Innings...take away some conquests and drop packs in something based around Extra Innings.

There needs to be a format based around games that is not conquest and builds towards something.

    Online Game Modes-9
I think it is almost perfect. Ranked is super team versus super team and you have to have that mode. BR is super cool and super fun and the program makes it accessible to everyone. Events are a lot of fun because it mixes things up...I do wish it wasn't free entries though, because you are really just playing until the first person quits.

    Online Gameplay-2
It is an absolute train wreck. I feel it mostly gets magnified in RS and some of the issues are isolated there...but it is just a mess.

    • The Stamina issue just makes no sense. You can play almost any other mode in this game and stamina matters for your starting pitcher...but not in ranked. So people build these insane bullpens that are hardly ever needed and as a hitter, there is really no point in being a good hitter that doesn't swing at everything.

    • It is as scripted as can be and I just can't see the games outside of that. I truly do not know each game if I was the better player or not...well actually I do normally know, but not based on the scoreboard. I couldn't begin to count the number of close games I magically lost or magically won in the 8th inning. It is always late in the game, but something about the 8th just seems terrible. Suddenly a fielder who never makes an error, makes one (they may call it a hit) and then something else falls or your pitcher suddenly can't throw strikes...then the bomb comes or some other really random infield play where a fielder can't get rid of the ball. Sure comebacks happen and clutch is a real thing....but the way this plays out is just not cool for a competitive online game and it happens WAY too often. This is the main thing that turns me away from Ranked...it is one thing to lose from scripted stuff in a three inning Event game...but it is so much more frustrating in a nine inning game.

    • The most recent PCI update is terrible. The biggest problem with the update impacts the game significantly based on the difficulty level. With All-Star the foul ball game is now even worse...didn't know that was possible, but it is. However now a ball thrown anywhere on the screen can be fouled off and balls can be destroyed way below the zone. The increased sensitivity is annoying on All Star, but with HOF and Legend it is way worse. I mean the increased range might have worked at the upper levels, but it is hard to know with the sensitivity being the way it is.

  • Kerry Wood Threw 134 Pitches And Is Still Green???
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

@macdaddy-o_PSN said in Kerry Wood Threw 134 Pitches And Is Still Green???:

This happened in a Ranked Season game I played recently. Kerry Wood, through nine innings, had thrown 134 pitches. And was still on Green strength. Not red. Not even yellow. I mean, come on. That's ridiculous. How is that even possible. What would wear him out -- 200 pitches? Has anyone else seen anything like this? I know that SDS doesn't seem to worry about pitchers losing zip on their fastball as they tire, but I thought they at least cared about keeping things in the realm of reality for other stuff. And no pitcher throws that many pitches and doesn't tire. Maybe Nolan Ryan in the 1970s or Walter Johnson or someone like that. But if they throw that many pitches, they need to seriously weaken in other areas.

Did you play last year? Was even worse then. There was this pitcher very few people used named Jacob Degrom and the only way to get him out of the game was to hit a liner off his head.

  • Never pulling Headliners from Headliner packs
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

This has been my experience the entire year. I have never even pulled diamonds in them. My son also has told me I should buy headliner packs each week since I am sitting on stubs. It was a fun game for a few weeks and then I went back to thinking straight and gave up that game.

Then this week shark map came out and I quickly got a few headliner packs in the first few moves. I went and opened them and there were three live series diamonds and two jersey diamonds. Went over and bought five packs in the store and pulled Bumgarner.

  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

I am bracing myself for the Topps Now 99 Cabrera with outlier on the Sinker, Fastball and Slider.

  • Why shippett?
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

I don't pick Shippett, but I never complain when my opponent does. This game is void of enough offense...anything that adds a few more hits or homers is good by me. I love a great pitcher's duel, but I think I may have had enough for the rest of my life at this point.

  • Players That Swing At EVERYTHING and MASH!?!?
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

OK, so I feel I have been seeing this more and more... a LOT in this event. I am facing more and more guys who swing at everything...I mean everything. I will feed them sliders and changeups in the dirt and they will flail at everything...then out of nowhere they just blast something out of the yard. I also will see it with fastballs way out of the zone. I may throw seven change ups/sliders buried in the dirt and then just decide to mix it up with a fastball that would probably go over the backstop...yet, it gets squared out and flies out of the yard.

It is just so strange because they aren't hitting anything and then they hit a pitch out that I didn't even think they could make contact on. A lot of the time they have WS or Championship banners. What am I missing here? How can anyone be effective swinging at everything...especially when nothing is being thrown in the zone?

  • What do you want added?
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

Extra Innings games in a season type format. I think Extra Innings is the best offline mode, but you can't really work towards anything. Would love something more with it.

  • Hitting this year is a dumpster fire
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

This is my first year, so I am just going by this year....but it seems that as the attributes have gotten higher, the bloops, off PCI homers, seeing eye singles have gotten more rampant. Kind of feels like during the first month people were like "Trout (or Chipper) is amazing....the PCI was barely touching the ball and it went out." But now every card has similar or better attributes and we all are saying "this game is full of bloops and off PCI hits". I am completely talking about something I don't know here, but I wonder if the PCI represented in feedback is just the base PCI and does not factor in things like clutch, quirks, etc. But to your point...I definitely feel like it has gotten worse as the year has went along... much worse.

I've read a lot of complaints about Field of Dreams stadium this year. What problems are you experiencing? I can't recall having any issues with that stadium and many of my opponents have chosen that stadium.

Framerate drops super low and it is almost like the screen is shaking when the ball is put in play. Most people who choose it at this point are doing it because they know there is a solid chance their opponent will quit.

  • Mookie. Worth it?
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

@sullysull08_psn said in Mookie. Worth it?:

Personally yes. Probably not why you think tho. He will be a good 2B and great bench! But along the way to mookie you also have to have/get lots of really good cards that you have to have for him which means you will also get those cards on your team. You will need Ohtani and if you don’t already have him then when you get him you will have him and mookie. But if you were to say just lock in stubs then no because you don’t get the cards along the way. Thoughts?

I completely agree...the last few days I have heard so many comments about how many millions of stubs Mookie costs and it just isn't true. All the cards required to get Mookie costs the stubs and because you have those, you get Mookie. If you truly are spending millions of stubs just for Mookie, then you are doing it wrong. It definitely doesn't make sense to spend all the stubs for one card...but to spend them for the entire package is a completely different story.

People say you will never use all those cards...but if you play events consistently, you will definitely start using cards you never thought you would have.

  • Anyone run Chipper at SS?
  • crashbowman447_PSNC crashbowman447_PSN

I used to run Chipperbat third and thought all was great, but the more I have played I have realized that defense shows itself in subtle ways. Someone like Chipper doesn't really make errors at short, but he will not get to near as many balls as a stronger defensive player.
