I just wanted to encourage anyone who lives near/is ever passing through KC to stop by the Negro League Baseball Museum. I made a road trip from Fort Worth to Kansas City a couple weeks ago, and it's an outstanding exhibit. Unfortunately there's not an enormous amount of game-used memorabilia (which isn't surprising -- the players couldn't even use the same water fountains, so nobody was carefully bagging and archiving Cool Papa Bell's shoes), but it is essentially one long graphical timeline that covers an enormous amount of history. There are some really cool recreations, like a locker room with replica jerseys from the biggest players. I have made my fascination with Josh Gibson* known on this forum more than once or twice, and they had a bunch of photos I'd never seen before. There are a couple movies that play along the way, and it's just a really eye-opening and educational museum. It's in the same building as the Jazz HoF, too, in case you're into music. I also caught a couple Royals games and walked through their HoF at Kauffman stadium. I'm not even a Royals fan and I was impressed with that exhibit, too. Baseball is fun.
Anyway -- to bring this back on topic -- I think we should keep pestering SDS to get the rights to as many Negro Leagues stars as they possibly can. I am sure they're trying and they don't need me to bug them about it ... but that's not going to stop me. I think it would be an awesome education/outreach thing that could raise a lot of awareness. For example, all the Future Stars cards last year put a whole bunch of players on our radars that we would otherwise not have known about. This would be a cool way for young kids to learn about players they might not otherwise know about, too. And since next year is the 75-year anniversary of Jackie Robinson, it'd be a cool way to honor his legacy, as well. (And I know this neither here nor there, but I kinda wish they had waited until next year to do "The 42" series for Jackie, and maybe it could actually have been 100% NL stars. Of course no one could have known Aaron was going to pass away this year, but it would have been cool to have "The 44" this year as a way to remember Hank).
*= if you're that one guy who used to hop into every thread where Gibson's name was even mentioned in passing just to discredit his career... please don't bother.

Great post. I had some client work in KC, and this is a great spot. Unrelated... but also nearby, Union Station, which is beautiful, and a huge WW I memorial.

Great post...my family has developed a fascination with KC as well. Don't know why, but we just love the town. We took a family trip a few year's back and then stopped for night this year on the way to Minnesota. When my boys found out we were stopping in KC, you would have thought we were stopping at Disney World. The museum is awesome and when my oldest son and myself went, the president of the museum Bob Kendrick met us when we walked in and just started filling us with stories. Arthur Bryant's and Gate's is not too far away either, so KC BBQ is in the neighborhood also.
I think next year would be cool...but I would be all for 6th inning this year having the bosses as Satch, Gibson and Cool Papa Bell. Along with unlocking negro league jersey's along the way.

KC was really fun,. I drove in on Friday and left on Sunday, so I didn't get a ton of time for sightseeing (aside from 2 games and the museum), but it was a really fun town and I can tell there was a lot of other cool stuff going on. And it really felt like a real baseball town. Out here, the Rangers will always be way down the totem pole behind the Cowboys and Mavs and maybe even the Stars. I was so impressed by the huge crowd at KC and all the people tailgating and cheering on the Royals. And I was also pretty shocked that almost everyone stayed through the very last pitch. And I know my frame of reference is skewed because the Rangers have a new stadium so everything is overpriced, but it was insane how cheap the seats were in KC. I sat in the front right behind the visitors on-deck circle and tickets were like 82 bucks lol. I bet comparable seats in this new monstrosity in Arlington would be like $400 (and unfortunately I'm not even exaggerating).

Lexus Club seats for Saturday against the Mariners are $603. Sounds right up your alley given your taste for fancy things.

I don't have a Lexus. How much are tickets in the Kia Rio Club? Ok, Ok, fine.... the Gently Used 2018 Kia Rio Club.

They must be trying to move toward this but I have no idea what goes into getting license rights. It seems like from a basic marketing point they will need to get some of these rights sooner rather than later since they are going to be running out of the really big legends soon. Getting Mays a few years back, Mantle last year and the Aaron and Clemente this year means they don't have a ton of really big names left from the 40's 50's and 60's. Next big one would probably have to be Dimaggio. After him they really don't have many big names from that era that would create much excitement. Getting a lot of Negro League players in the game would be like a whole new game launch.
