    Anyone enjoying RTTS?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Boy, this game is pretty busted in its current state. Yet, I’m already playing rtts way more than I did in ‘19 or ‘20. The last few installments have felt pretty stale to me. I would get all excited to see what new and/or exciting features would be added and...well, nothing really new and/or exciting was added.

All further comments are for my experience. I am in no way suggesting that my experience should be the benchmark for game design.

What’s making me play more right now is the sheer difficulty of progressing my player. It is slow and downright tedious. (My role progression points are currently functioning properly). But doesn’t it seem like the real life progression of a ballplayer would be slow and tedious? Actions in game with their corresponding bonuses seem meaningful for the first time in awhile. Penalties for failing are much more severe. Strikeouts are killing my Plate Discipline rating!

The new perk system is flawed but it is new. Sure, it’s just a variation on the Archetype system but they are giving us a little more control of how we want to shape our player. It is still limited but I much prefer this to the cookie cutter Archetypes in previous iterations of MLB The Show. The choices for secondary perks are tricky because of the trade offs of losing certain ability points. I kind of like mulling over what I’m willing to give up for just a bit more Contact ability.

Now I understand I may be in a minority of players who want the “road to the show” to be long and difficult. I totally understand the desire to come out of the gates as the greatest player to ever step between the lines. For this reason I always wished there was a progression difficulty level. This will never happen because of rtts being linked to DD now.

These are just some of my thoughts. If things eventually get fixed I believe I will enjoy this rtts much more than the last few. Anyone else have similar thoughts about the potential for the new systems? Or, I’m totally fine with being called an idiot haha!

  • What’s the Salary for?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Yeah, salaries are kind of pointless in this game. I have done one thing in the past to make the salary meaningful in at least one way. Take long term contracts at 30k/yr. This will allow your team to spend it on better complementary players. I know, it’s immersion breaking, but much of the game is these days...

  • The worst RTTS to date.
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Love it, all of it. I would be thrilled to have any of these additions! I think there is a real possibility we could see at least a few of them by MLB The Show ‘35

  • How long does it take to get to the majors?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

The logic of promotions/demotions in this game have always been terrible. I’ve been on teams with three first basemen on the bench. I’ve seen great players sent to AAA. All kinds of wonky stuff. There’s no reason to think they’ve improved the logic for ‘21. As far as how long it takes to get to the bugs...that’s a good question! The progression system is definitely slower. My player is nowhere near ready haha!

If anyone replies who has made it to the show in ‘21, can you respond with:

    1. Your OVR #
    2. Position
    3. What year in your career

  • How about a Custom Archetype?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

In general I liked the addition of Archetypes that first appeared in The Show 17 (I believe). However, one aspect I miss about the training points system was the ability to create any type of player I wanted. The current selection of archetypes kind of pigeon-holes you into a very specific player. I enjoyed playing as a utility infielder type player with middling hitting skills (utility archetype), good glove (small ball), slowish speed (pure power), etc. A bizarre mix for sure but reminiscent of real life players that fill every major league roster.

So, for example, what if we were given a “points for caps” system? Say 1000 points to be distributed towards your caps in anyway you’d like. Currently there are about 1000 cap points set for each available archetype. You could set your caps and then have your abilities begin at 66% of the cap max. One could then create as realistic or unrealistic a character as they choose.

Lastly, an option not to train would be awesome. Don’t train, you’re abilities start to diminish. I did always like that in the old system. Ok, I’m done.

  • Best position for RTTS
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Welcome Mr. Xbox! I’ve always enjoyed playing infield positions in RTTS. The mechanics and playability feel more natural to me than the outfield positions. SS, 2B, and 1B see the most fielding opportunities. If you want to hit more and field less (at the expense of fielding gains), 3B is the best option.

I like that the two way player is an option. Personally I have no interest in being a pitcher. My hope is that it can become a choice in future updates.

Enjoy the game! Even with all of its current problems, it is still one of my favorite games out there.

  • For Devs: One improvement suggestions for RTTS ‘22
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

    Training points over Archetype system

  • Dear Devs thank you for ruining my favorite mode.
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Yes, keep it simple SDS! Every yearly edition of RTTS just gets flatter and flatter. Keep the super awesome graphics and simple control systems. Lose the extraneous fat and go back to earn some points, spend some points. Control over your player is what made the early editions so fun!

  • Agent In RTTS
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Yes, more agent interactions would be a nice touch! The mode strives for realism but agent interactions are somewhat unrealistic. Definitely the ability to request a trade would be great. With this in mind, it would be nice to have the ability to call your agent instead of always waiting to hear from them. Some other good interactions would be concerning contracts/arbitration/extensions. You should not be negotiating your salary with the team 😂 Tell your agent what you want, they tell the team, your agent gets back to you.

In this vein, bring back the old manager interactions!! I loved being able to be a cocky little [censored] with the manager and have them bench you for a few games 😂

  • The moment you fell in love with baseball
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Hard to remember! Baseball has been apart of everyday life since my memories began to stick. I’m told I went to Wrigley for my first game at 6 months old 😂 I remember ‘84. Maddox before anyone had any idea what this little man was doing on a big league field. The first ever night game (which got rained out). Harry. Grace, the hits leader of the 90’s (he was my fav). Sosa vs McGuire before the dung hit the fan. Bartman, that poor dude. The final out of ‘16 (hard to remember much of that night afterwards). It never ends!

    I miss it too 😩

  • Did they change base stealing?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

It also matters whether you are “leaning” or not. Leaning definitely gets you to top speed faster but can make you vulnerable to the pick off. If you lean in the default lead there is time to get back in a pick off. Leaning plus an additional lead step is instant pick off death. You could try leaning in the standard lead and see if you have more success. I’ve had roughly a 70% success rate with a 40 rated runner in this manner.

  • Hitting
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

I have the same impression. I’m not sure it’s any easier than 19 though. I really tweaked the batting sliders down in 19 and am doing the same in 20. Playing on Dynamic/Analog with dynamic currently at Legend. Here’s where my settings are at:

Contact: -3 (the middle being 0)
    Power: -1
    Timing: -3
    Foul Frequency: -3
    Solid Hits: -3

Batting average is in the mid .200s but the spread of hits (singles, doubles, etc.) feels right. I’d rather stink a little than always mashing. Each hit feels a little more rewarding 😂

  • can't hit alot Strikeout
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Which hitting interface are you using? Zone, directional, or analog?

  • HDR issues after Update 4 Install
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

It also happened to me. It seems to be related to the 120hz from the latest patch. When I turned this to off in video settings in the PS5 video and screen settings (not in game settings), it resolved the issue and went back to “normal”. However, although the graphics look worse with the new patch, seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand is easier and reaction time is improved. For the time being I am allowing the crappy graphics for a better OPS. This is not how it should be 😂

  • Why am I playing Left Fielder when I'm suppose to be a Starting Pitcher?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

You’re like the new Babe Ruth 😂

  • Batting order for Small-Ball archetype
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Yeah, the computer generated lineups are usually pretty bad. I like your idea of having one’s player bat in the order based on their archetype. Small ball and Mr. Utility could bat top or bottom. Pure Power, Anomaly, and Rock Steady could bat 3-6. It’d be a fairly simple system that shouldn’t be too hard to implement. But, I’m not a game developer...

  • How Do I Install My Preorder?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

It should have already downloaded automatically. Perhaps check your purchased games in “Library”. If you preordered awhile ago and have been playing several games since, it may just not be showing on your games list on the main page. This has happened to me with other games.

No more year to year saves. I know, it’s a bummer.

  • RTTS Feedback Blog Post
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

It is a small detail, but I would like to see the ability to choose “secondary positions” return in player creation. If they insist on keeping the two-way player permanent, that’s fine. But if secondary positions could read SP, INF (for example), I would be thrilled! I fear my self chosen approach to playing as a utility bench player will no longer be an option. Stupid, I know.

  • What’s the Salary for?
  • cellodan1_PSNC cellodan1_PSN

Oh man, the trade logic in every iteration of MLB The Show has been hilarious!!! It’s almost as if trades happen because something, anything needs to happen. For this reason I have always turned the trade slider to 1. (I have been altering sliders in ‘21 and using a work around to keep Archetype progression working. I can confirm that altering sliders only affects XP, not Archetype progression.) However, this is off topic.
