This was the top of the fifth inning . . . you had five more innings at bat to score one run to tie and two to win. Come on, a one run lead is definitely not insurmountable, so why blame your loss on one play? Sure, it's frustrating, but it sounds like you let that get to you the rest of the game. And yeah, why throw something way outside to Sheffield? Perhaps you were afraid he was actually going to get a hit with two strikes to take the lead.

Also, maybe examine your CAP's defense at catcher. When I put guys like Carlos Santana or Gary Sanchez behind the plate, it just doesn't compare to Posey's superb blocking abilities for stuff in the dirt. Some people really sleep on defense ratings on certain positions like C or 1B that don't get the ball hit to them in high frequency.

Maybe switch to pure analog instead of meter pitching for increased levels of user input. It's worth trying at least if you haven't already . . .

About spending money on the game, that probably makes you invest more time and effort than you otherwise would. I know a lot of people do it, but spending $1,500 to get Mantle, Sheffield, and Biggio doesn't automatically increase your chances of winning in this game. Plenty of free cards out there who rake (i.e. POTMs, future stars, TAs). So maybe you wouldn't feel this let down if all you did was spend $60 upfront, but no one's stopping you from buying stubs in-game. Try giving it a rest for a day or two and think it over, that might help you see the bigger picture of issues like this a bit more.

But seriously, this forum has turned into a cesspool for players complaining about in-game issues and frustrations. One might wonder if that's the primary focus of users discussing MLB the Show 20 on this forum. It's a simulation video game; no one expects it to be a perfect experience, much less to win every game. If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to keep playing. Maybe the card drops throughout the year, including collections and new pack releases have sucked you in to spending tons of cash every year. Hey, it's making a profit for SDS. There's plenty of other things to do now and in the next few months, find something you actually enjoy I guess.

I don't care what game mode it is honestly. For all that I know, you could've quit after that play in the fifth inning of a ranked seasons game. Go ahead and quit the game, why make a huge spectacle out of it? Threads like this deflect from actual content discussions. That's a big reason why I think there should be a new forum for complainers. And don't think I'm just making excuses for the game, I'd be criticizing actual issues I perceive more if people were underreporting them.

He missed the tag, happens in real life all the time. What is the pitchers defensive stats? Was there lag? Is there latency issues?

Yeah, they wouldn't actually have to worry about RNG so much if they actually hit the virtual ball well consistently by getting good PCI placements. It really is a skill-based game despite what some around here would say.

Having played four games thus far in the tournament, I think it’s pretty evident the developers didn’t spend a whole lot of time with it. Played the first game and the score didn’t automatically report, but this was not an issue in the three other games I played. Wait time between games was far too long, usually anywhere between 1 and 3 hours long. The start time of 6:45 PM Eastern time in my opinion was too late for most players to get 6 full 3-inning games in before it gets too late at night. And this tournament was advertised exclusively as US and Canada in its scope, so in theory time zone differences shouldn’t make too big of a difference in terms of player availability.

I’d suggest that next time the developers want to have something like this to change some key aspects. First, allow players to enter a new game immediately after the conclusion of the previous one, with an opponent randomly selected from the pool of available online players. Also, if a player isn’t online during matchmaking, allow them to login at a different time within the given tournament window (perhaps 24 hours total) to finish their games once entering the online pool. Maybe try to change the start time to noon or early afternoon since it’s the weekend and more players may be online at a time that doesn’t overlap with meal times and nighttime.

I’d played a tournament in ‘19 last winter and encountered similar issues. I’d say this mode/feature has a great deal of potential, and it can appeal to a wider audience in the Show community by fixing the aforementioned and other issues currently occurring.

I mean, that pitch you threw with Chapman to Trout was a 94 mph sinker, and Oswalt was hitting 97-98 with his fastball. Maybe you were having a bad day or something or had faced a pitcher throwing in the low 90s in the last game. Also if you have significant input lag with your setup, are using players with low vision, or have trouble with reaction. Bottom line, take a look at yourself and your skill level before you blame the game. Maybe your opponents really were better players than you.

I agree, but if you look at this year's ratings the Braves are severely overrated compared to the world champion Nationals. Daniel Hudson, who closed out the World Series, has a 73 rating while Luke Jackson, who got lit up like a Christmas tree in October, is rated significantly higher. Just one example. Wouldn't surprise me at all if one or more of the developers are Braves fans. No fanbase is more delusional than Atlanta's.

Playoffs are a small sample size. Lest I remind you the Braves won the division four games ahead of the Nats, who got in as a wild card team.

Ok, then I can't agree with you there. You're just plain wrong about that. The regular season is 162 games, while you can play a maximum of 20 games in the playoffs. Plus SDS takes into account performance over recent years, not just the current year. One year can be an anomaly, and of course so can the playoffs in one year.

Pure analog is well worth the effort. It's way better for accuracy, i.e. controlling where your pitches go so you don't hang pitches right over the middle of the plate, and even then it still happens. Meter is probably the second best option if you want to play competitively imo. There's definitely a learning curve, but over time it should pay off. Both meter and pure analog require more variable user input than classic, so good quality inputs should improve your chances of success rather than just leaving it up to the per 9's.

Pitchers generally have low defensive ratings. That's another thing that may account for it. It happens from time to time in-game as well as IRL.

But I'd say tag animations should be improved as far as the time from catch to tag. These players are professional athletes who have elite reflexes, I'd expect something better, at least according to ratings.

No . . . there's always going to be issues with gameplay, it's not a perfect system. All you complainers should find something else to do instead of spending all day playing a game you don't actually enjoy playing. Isn't that a bit counterintuitive?

They just absolutely refuse to make this realistic. The stupid long animations on plays from OF'ers to the tags being as slow as they can possibly make them. Sure, upon release they look pretty good, then just get worse as the year goes on.

Yup, I'd pay more money to see a special Javier Baez tag animation actually play out in-game. The tags at second, third, and home are ridiculously slow when in actuality it's a bang-bang play that happens in a small fraction of a second. But tags during steals seem better this year, to the extent that it's actually hard to steal bases when you get a quality throw.

Sure, but they'll become irrelevant as soon as SDS starts dropping all the 99's, so while they beat some legends right now, it won't be long before legends completely take over.

Yup, stage 3 of team affinity, later inning bosses, headliners, and finest cards should produce a lot of 97-99 players. At least it's later than last year; I remember then they had 98-99 3rd inning bosses for example.

Man, he was such a beast in MLB 16. It’d be cool to have him as a top starting pitcher again. . .

Interesting, no one's talking about how they basically got rid of pauses after making contact on swings online. Seriously, that was one of my biggest pet peeves in previous years. But hey, the fielding seems a bit better, less problems with locking into animations and the ball doesn't seem to drop in front of outfielders as much.
