Taking a break from this (or any) game is a solid idea. When it gets to the point where you can’t enjoy it, and playing is stressing you out, it’s definitely the way to go.
The next version of the game will no doubt be here, when you feel like you can play again.I try to accept the gameplay for what it is, “comeback logic” or not. I can really only control my input, and how I react. The outcomes of the game are largely beyond that.
Good Luck!
Sound advice, I appreciate it! I've actually quit this game before too sadly for a full year. And I've enjoyed the content of the game and graphics and everything but the gameplay online ranked. It feels too manipulate...
A few days ago I made a post about comeback logic in this game and all the reasons and signs that point to it. Tonight I played a game where I was winning up 11-3, and because I KNOW about comeback logic, I can assure you that I don't take ANY lead for granted. But just like many of you have pointed out, once it started in the game I just knew what was going to happen;
After putting a bunch of runs up, my bat gets nerfed and can't hit anything anymore and every other pitch is now a home run for the opponent. I'll make this short and sweet and say that he came back and won against my best relievers in the game; Britton, Dhuran and Rogers... and of course I'm boiling because it felt there was nothing I could do to hold the lead or tack on more runs after I scored a bunch. All of his runs came in the 8th inning btw. Clearly giving this opponent who had been struggling the entire game a reason to love this game.
I find this game unrealistically unsettling and beyond frustrating when these events seem to happen so much in the game. I shouldn't start feeling borderline nauseous wondering why I'm about to give up the game that I've been in control of in its entirety, and so often. It's really not fun like this. It's not realistic when it's this common especially.
I know the non believers of this comeback logic coding will be like GOOD riddance to someone who does believe in this coding. But it's really disappointing and sad honestly knowing that I have been completely discouraged by this game at this point when I've put in COUNTLESS hours in it this year and constructed a DD team I've very proud of. I've also been playing this game for a decade and DD since it came out. I'm no slouch and I get the nuances of the game. I outplayed this opponent at every facet, taking pitches, working counts, out hitting and pitching and then it literally felt like the controller was taken out of my hands or handicapped to give this player a "redemption" arc. I've been on both sides of this annoying coin.
I'll miss the game. But clearly this is just not good for my mental health. I should spend my time elsewhere. I love baseball, and I used to LOVE this game... but this is a cringy aspect of this game online that I find intolerable, disrespectful, and beyond frustrating. It is what it is. I'll very much miss my team and playing the game when it seemed actually balanced. Cheers y'all.
@halfbutt
Agreed. Whether or not ppl realize it on their own or not want to admit it at all, I think the fact that so many of us talk about this often enough citing similar and compelling examples gives a lot of validation here. The game gets taken out of your hands seemingly when this DDA bs comes into play. And that is not fun.
@halfbutt Yep. Sounds about right. I’m by no means saying I’m perfect either btw… it’s just so obvious at this point. I’ve been on both sides of this debauchery too.
You literally cannot convince me that there is NOT comeback logic in this game. I have been on both sides of this coin. I’ve played for years and it’s just so obvious it exists. Whenever I take a 3-5 run lead early in the game, and playing a player who doesn’t have as stacked a lineup… I just know what’s about to happen. All of sudden my batting skills are gonna go out the window… soft contact or hard contact but right at a fielder/warning track shot. Then their previously bad hitting is going to start turning into these awkward homeruns that float out of the park on a pitch that was probably not in the zone. And then once they make their amazing comeback, they won’t be able to for the next inning but your hitting may come back to life. All for it to end chaotically on some sort of frustrating combination of bloops hits, error, another awkward floaty home run that was possibly robbable at the fence but of course you didn’t get it. It happens so often that the formula script is too easy to lay out and spell for you. You’re truly a dunce if you think that this is not in the game.
Obviously no this is not in every game. But it’s in MANY games. Too make it close and “competitive” so ppl don’t get discouraged and never play again. Sometimes it is possible to survive the comeback, but whenever I don’t and they come back from the 3-5 run deficit and win- I’ll usually get rewarded some gold or diamond player after the game… I guess their way of saying “sorry that this weaker player came back and beat you. Don’t leave us!” lol it’s nauseating. I think it’s time to delete this game. It’s very frustrating.

Coming up on the collections... wasn't even trying for it but I'll have to choose between Adley or Acuna! Neither will be in my starting lineup, but will be getting a bench spot. Who do I go after? Who has the batter bat in your experience?
Who are your starting RF and Catcher?
Granderson in RF and my CAP at Catcher
So, I was considering Acuna as a platoon situation in RF with Granderson. I also have 99 Joc Peterson at 1B... so I can always swing him to RF too and put Adley at 1B (his secondary position).

MTO does take a bit to finish, but not a super long time. The time put in is well worth the points you get. Plus, MTO is interactive. You play a few innings of about 1/3 of the season (maybe a little more) with goals to accomplish. Sometimes you will have a player lock game too. If you want, you can even get into trades and player development, although it's not necessary to get the points for TA.
I get not liking showdowns. I don't either, so I don't do them.
Only appeal Showdown has is the time it theoretically takes to finish them... the trick is obviously to take as many pitches as possible and you're usually rewarded. My problem with it is that if I do swing early in the count, and I'm seemingly perfect perfect... the ball goes right to a fielder. As if to punish me for not wasting time taking as many pitches as possible. It's just shitty to me.

Tired of wasting my time on this game. Too much grinding for cards that don't make a huge difference. And I don't like wasting time playing the Team Affinity showdowns [censored] "veteran" on steroids... hitting balls right at players conveniently. It's not fun and doesn't make me feel good anymore. Waste of time.
Your name is Mendoza, of course you can't hit
Nah I'm f'in with you lol
hahaha! I hit fine... used to be a lot better until this year. I still have pretty decent overall batting average and a good record online. I'm just frustrated with the game.
Does that take longer? For the record, I've been able to beat showdown before. But I absolutely despise how it feels like it's working against you intentionally. The convenient line drives right at players is stupid and obvious. It's suppose to be "veteran" mode? [censored] off. These grinds are just not worth the time at all. For players we can't even keep in our DD line ups for more than a couple of months. I'm tired of wasting a gigantic waste of my time for temporary players. And VERY sus cpu showdown tendencies. smh. I love baseball... this game just doesn't feel good fun most of the time. Some times it is... but a video game shouldn't just be a grind. It should be a release of sorts... shrug

I really love when I’m playing an opponent who has an awful record and swings at everything and is able to just hit breaking pitches out of the zone with their mid players OUT of the park… meanwhile when I play these players my bat becomes a wiffle ball bat and can’t hit anything with players that I took forever to grind for. This happens almost every time I play someone with a significantly worse record than mine. I’m about 52-20… and there’s nothing like the game deciding it needs to be kept close and it very obviously being manipulated. This game is nauseating at times. ESPECIALLY if your opponent rolls out a pitcher that you should statistically do very well against… it’s as if they are aiding the people who are not as fortunate to have as high rated cards (which seems impossible in this years game). It makes it incredibly frustrating that these teams that have these easy attainable cards and bad records that swing at everything get rewarded against teams that actually grinded for the top players and actually take pitches and know how to play the game. It’s insulting. I’m sorry but if a player needs to be mercy ruled, so be it. That will be a lesson to them. Stop intentionally aiding weaker players. It’s so painfully obvious with anybody with a brain in their skull and insulting to those of us who know how to play the game and also grinded their way to a good lineup. My guess; they don’t want people quitting the game because they can’t compete… well then stop allowing those matches to connect… I’d rather player with someone whose closer to my level with less of the game manipulation kicking in… it’s funny how whenever I play somebody with a similar record or a great squad, I do very well against but seemingly struggle against opponents with significant worse record and mediocre players that can’t seem to stop swinging at everything. Yes I still mostly win those games… but it’s truly ridiculous obvious what is going on.
Wouldn't believe you unless I'm in the room where it happens
In addition, I've been playing this game for over 10 years now. I know there's a ton of NEW players playing the game this year. It's amazing how rare blow outs are.
Hmmmm couldn't possibly be that SDS doesn't want the new players to feel the experience of sucking at the game and thus quitting playing. I guess that's a whole other conversation. But yeah this game feels manipulated at times BIG time. Nearly every game.
@untchable704_psn said in Does anybody actually...:
It’s pretty obvious the system controls it right? I can be honest about it. I played a guy about a week ago had me looking like a fool. 9th inning I couldn’t miss a ball. And walked it off. And he brought in 3 pitchers so it isn’t that.
And we’ve all seen it. Up by 2 or 3. Our opponent clearly isnt real good. Has no hits through 5. Then all of sudden bam bam bam. No matter what you throw dude ain’t gonna miss. Then he scratch across 2 and it’s 3-2 and he goes right back to flailing around until the 9th. Better be careful there. Seriously how many games does this describe hahah.
YEP. This is every game. At the very least, if you're up by a few, like clockwork within an inning or two the opponents (or your hitters) suddenly can hit enough to bring the score super close. Every game.
does anybody actually believe this game plays "normally" online? Like everything is fine and there is absolute 0 manipulation? Genuinely asking. My experience, whether I've won or lost, it seems like it can be out of my hands. There's obviously some input, but it amazes me the amount of amazing comebacks that happen. Again being on both sides of this (see my last game). It's an incredibly frustrating game online this year. Just feels gross.

I'm sorry but I've wanted to like playing this game and the content is great... but the way it plays online is pure trash. I'm sure a lot of you guys like it if you play the way SDS wants you to play it. But the game play feels really blocky and gross. I've been playing this game for 10 years. I skipped it last year because I was extremely unimpressed with 2019. Ironically 2019 played AMAZINGLY after mlb 20 came out, it's as if they removed some coding that allowed for frequent comebacks and less line outs right at fielders.
This last game I played, and I've played SEVERAL like this, I got matched with a guy who just swung at everything. So I literally just started throwing the ball nowhere near the zone. So the CPU rewarded him. If I intentionally throw the ball up at your eyes and the ball is hit 450 feet to give your team the lead for a 3 run home run, it's really going to be difficult to take that as earned. Because it's not. Later on in the game, I had another 3 run lead... same process. And same player, Niko Goodrum. I threw a pitch that was so inside that it would've hit him, and hit it out for the come back and lead. Look, I can understand this nonsense if the ball was hung, or in the zone or whatever... but how in the world are people allowed to hit homers up as high as I can throw it? I can't even get my batting cursor that high. And these home runs always happen if the team is down and out. It never (or rarely ever) happens if said team has the lead. I regret buying this game. Waste of time and money. Every team has the same stupid [censored] players (Buxton, Ohtani, Turner, Burnes)... and even in a year with create a stadium, everyone uses the same stupid [censored] stadium. It's just a cheese fest and not fun at all. I've been great at this game for awhile, and even this year my record is fine I guess... definitely not what it was in past year. It feels very manipulated at times. Both used for and against me. There have been times I've had a comeback that seemed odd and I recognized that. Like what did I just pull that sinker ball outside and hit it way out?? okay I'll take it... I guess but I definitely didn't really square up on that. Sorry for the vent. This game was obnoxious though... dude was throwing fastballs and hanging pitches and while I did score 7 runs, most of my hits were actually right at a fielder. Meanwhile I'm literally throwing all over the place and he's allowed to hit in the gap and hit homers all game when he's down by 3? Okay.
Probably selling my ps5 soon if anyone wants to hit me up. Would rather not waste my time with this weird [censored] playing game all summer.
I don't believe either of those two things happened. I could believe that you tried to throw the ball there and missed your spot and he hit it out, but I don't think the pitches were where you say they were.
Don't really care if you believe me or not. I wouldn't waste my time with the post if I simply "missed my spot". Which any idiot knows does happen. I intentionally threw high above because the player was swinging everything. Go ahead and give that guy the benefit. This game does play with manipulation involved. Anyone swinging at that pitch should have swung and missed. And he hit it out, and I'm sure him being down by 3 and striking out a lot plays into that result. Sorry if you believe otherwise.
Texas Rangers are not a good baseball team.

I love when ppl come up with original jokes for their comebacks. Good stuff.
Also does anyone see the irony in the morons that WHINE about people WHINING on a forum.
It's a forum. People are going to complain and give their feedback on how the game plays. If you don't like seeing the feedback, don't read the forum you stupid fucks.

Yeah online feels VERY manipulated. Best way I can put it. And AGAIN I've been on BOTH sides of this. I don't like feeling manipulated. I'd rather win/lose without [censored] coding or whatever they're doing to make people play the game more.
Also those Buxton and Ohtani cards are dumb. You mean to tell me EVERYONE has a great batting average and 3492835897 home runs with them? Give me a [censored] break. Game is lame af.
The game has potential, and I'll give it that. But this year they completely failed at online competitive mode.
It has potential but they need to fix game play. Content is awesome. Create a stadium is cool... it's a shame I like never play in anyone else's created stadium. Everyone uses the same few [censored] parks for the cheese home runs. Gross. Let's just patch that maybe? Start there.
To be fair, you'd probably play in a lot more created stadiums if it weren't so hard to get a ps5 these days. There's probably a pretty small percentage of the game's player base that even has the ability to create one.
Fair. The bigger point I'm trying to make is that there is many stadiums in the game to use (including create a stadium) and everyone seems to pick the same couple of stadiums for the cheese factor. It's redundant and boring.
