I’m in no way a developer, just a longtime fan who loves this game and wants the online experience to match how good the gameplay is. So I did some digging, consulted a friend who knows this stuff, and wanted to share what I found. Feel free to ignore if this is totally off base.

    But…

The root cause: The Show runs online games peer to peer. There’s no neutral server holding the truth, just two consoles trying to agree. When they disagree, that’s a freeze-off, with nothing to break the tie except someone quitting. It’s also why dashboarding erases stats. Stats commit to the servers at sync points, so if someone dashboards right after your homer, the session ends before it’s ever recorded.

The good news: the fix doesn’t seem to require expensive dedicated servers. There’s a middle ground called relay servers. They’re lightweight and affordable, and they hold an authoritative copy of the game between the two players. That one addition could fix three things at once:

    • Freeze-offs auto-resolve, since the relay knows the score and can settle the game fairly
    • Dashboarding can’t erase stats, because the homer exists on the server the moment it happens
    • Disconnect wins get settled by the server’s record instead of guesswork

On menu lag: the menus seem to check in with the servers on nearly every screen. Local caching, where inventory loads once and syncs in the background, could take huge pressure off.

I say all this with love. The gameplay this year is genuinely great, so just hoping this is useful food for thought for 27. Thanks for everything you all do.

It should be their top priority going into next year. Prettier graphics and more options are nice but not worth it if the servers themselves still have issues.

Yeah as an older person I really don’t care about the graphics. They are plenty good enough for me. I just want the connections to be better and the servers to not go down.
