Devs confirmed that mini-season rewards are the same no matter what length/innings you choose. I mean I get repeatable missions being the same (because they carry over and what not, so length of game doesn’t matter), but if championship awards are the same, why would anyone ever play anything but the shortest option? Seems like this wasn’t well thought out.

For pxp? For the repeatable missions? For stat grinding? For fun?

The devs also have said there will be a few 'curated' ones, with set length. WBC is an example, perhaps this means they will do a playoffs one as well which would be great.

@Teak2112_MLBTS The only thing you mentioned that would make sense would be for fun. Pxp, stat grinding, and repeatable missions would all be the same on an inning/time basis and thus it wouldn’t matter which length you chose. Obviously, locked ones would have to be played as they are set up (since we don’t have a choice).

If the championship bundle is the same regardless of inning/game # choices, everyone will always choose the shortest one. Scaling these is super easy and there is really no excuse for SDS not to.

Who cares? They are sellable too i believe....meaning its a good grind to get cards and packs. Some cannot be happy with anything. If you care then set it to what you want it too. If you care about rewards, its not that big of a deal, sell it at first get a bunch of stubs, but once the market is flooded, everyone will get that reward on the cheap.

Well, for offline DD modes, there are none that allow you to play 9 inning games except vs CPU. If you were looking to achieve stat requirements or PXP for missions everybody just played that.

My guess is that it may be very hard to earn all off the rewards for mini-season missions along the way to the final card only playing a short season and 3 innings. So if the only goal is the final card then sure just play the shortest possible route. But if there are stat or PXP missions for other cards along the way maybe what you could accomplish in one longer season and/or 9 innings will require multiple runs with the shorter options.

I might also guess that they saw a drop-off of people playing or completing mini-seasons last year.

@GradektheBard_PSN This is exactly what I was afraid of. These guys have no forethought. I’d bet the rewards are nerfed overall as well.

Lets see the system in place first...people can't wait two days without (potentially) overreacting

And I say this as someone who complained aboutt the nerfed repeatable rewards (non championship bundle) loudly early last year.

I agree. It is possibly, if not likely, that they cover this in today or tomorrow's stream. If not we can all find out in 38 hours when people start playing.

@Teak2112_MLBTS And we were right about that. Mini seasons were significantly less rewarding last year.

I'll burn through Mini-Seasons mostly on 3 innings. But, there will be times when I'm looking to complete missions or gain PxP and I'll switch to 9. I'm happy for the flexibility.

@savefarris_psn can probably help me here - when I first started DD in 2020, there were lots of challenges where you had to play a 9 inning game against the CPU. That's faded over the years, so I'm glad to have the option.

That said... it will be interesting to see what the rewards (and repeatable missions) are.

@MarioMendoza935_XBL It’s just incredibly lazy not to scale the rewards with the inning/game choices.

If true, that is a big bummer. I was set on playing a 9 inning season in the WBC miniseason. Was hoping for better rewards. If it's the same as 3 innings, then i'll just play the 3 inning 28 game schedule so i can complete all of the challenges along the way.

My first participation in DD (end of cycle 2016), you were allowed to rack up stats against user-created CPU teams. (Pour one out for the Yetis. IYKYK)

2017 and 2018 had a lot of "get x stats with y players" that had to be done in 9 inning CPU games. Most were benign, though there were a few troublemakers (Pour one out for Daniel Nava.)

2019 was when you started to see those get phased out (mostly replaced by moments). There's still the occasional "win a CPU game vs. INSERT TEAM HERE" but they've become few and far between.

Well, for people who enjoy the pace of a 9 inning game and want the experience to unfold as a real game does, the longer games are, in themselves, a reward. I've wanted a tournament-style 9 inning game for quite some time, outside of RS, and I'm happy they've provided that option. The extra PXP and XP are gravy, but will be nice.

If you're only playing for rewards, then there's no incentive for you and you can choose 3. Not everyone believes that everything has to yield a proportionately sized trophy to be enjoyable. I think it's kind of nice that those who may not be fond of Mini Seasons can power through it while those who want to drag it out, can.

    I don't think that's insane.

Folks, this decision is more proof that SDS's main leadership focus on MLB The Show is to treat it like another role player shooter game. This move was merely to allow impatient youth to grind quicker to get the virtual trinkets they obsess over. If I was a parent, this would concern me because it takes teens and further teaches them to demand and expect quick and trivial rewards.

For people who simply love the game of baseball and want to play it out as a video game, this decision reeks. This because there are only so many efforts a single company can make in a given year and this move is what SDS focused on. It helps explain why the pure baseball simulator pieces have remained largely stagnant over the last ten years.

One can play MLB The Show 16 and then MLB The Show 26 and note some improvements in graphics, but past that not much difference. For ten years to expire it is reasonable to expect the game to have advanced far more substantially than it has.

Lets see how it works out. You are mainly talking about a single reward card for winning the championship.

If I look at the Finest Mini-season from last year these were some of the missions

10 hits with Finest cards to get Rafaela
5 XBH with Rafaela to get Diaz
12 hits with Diaz to get Smith

Pack Rewards and XP Rewards scale up to 28 wins
    PXP Rewards to 2025 PXP
Stat missions included 30 innings pitched with the series, 9 saves, 100 hits, 75 hrs and 69 strikeouts

These extra rewards, assuming they keep the same format, are going to take the same number of innings played regardless of whether you are playing 9 inning games or 3 inning games.

Plus I don't believe the rewards are sellable so it is not like people can get a final reward card every 21 innings (plus post season) played and make bank off of it.

@Dolenz_PSN I guess I wasn’t clear, I am specifically talking about the repeatable bundle (15 standards and 1 ballin) you get for winning the championship. That’s what needs to scale with the time commitment made with the innings/games selection.

    Okay, I misunderstood then. Sorry

The pack odds are so bad most of the time that I personally don't pay much attention to standard pack rewards.
