Thoughts and Questions about the DD Stream
-
I feel that they did not do the greatest job in the stream yesterday if I am honest. A couple points.
Did I miss it or did they bother to explain the consequences, if any, for choosing the shortest mini season possible (7 games of 3 innings) or the longest (28 game of 9 inning). It seems obvious that there should be some.
I felt like the explanation of PXP mods was not as clear as it could have been. You can ignore mods and still get the +1 across the board. Are mods then just a means of redistributing those points based on the archetype? I was trying to pay attention to the attributes in the bottom right corner but found the display confusing since they barely touched on it. I feel like they could have shown what a P5 Player looked like with the standard Plus 5 points to each attribute and then what that player looked like with a diamond mod applied
While I agree in theory with the modifiers for PXP to induce the players to not trounce the CPU on rookie I find myself asking if they went too far
- On Rookie - If you go 4 for 4 with a player with a HR, 2b, 2 singles an RBI and a run scored you would earn 255 points
- On All-Star - You go 2 for 4 with a single and double (no runs or rbis) you would earn 333 points with the x1.8 multiplier
- On Goat - You can't touch anything and get no hit by the CPU. Every single batter in your lineup earns 420 pxp just with 3 plate appearances per game with a 3.5 modifier.
While not a fun way to play it seems like the best strategy is to simply play on goat. Make intentional outs, pitch as well as you can move on to the next game as quickly as possible.

@Dolenz_PSN I did similar math as you and realized the fastest path to P5 is goat. I can’t hit on goat, I can pitch on goat and hold the cpu under three runs, but that is nearly as senseless as grinding rookie. I’ll stay on legend when I need to grind.
I didn’t even run pitching numbers, did you?
-
I only glanced at the pitchers pxp but it looked mostly the same, I was focused on hitters
PA went from 10- 40/ 1B doubled to 10/ 2B went 10-15/3B went 20-30/ HR went from 20-40(but would actually be 60 with the run and RBI, 100 when you add in PA)/ runs and rbis doubled to 10 so did walks -
I was wondering about the multipliers. I can see myself racking it up even faster online than in the past.
-
The flip side is, if you take the 0-3 on GOAT approach you have to fully grind out the hits/HR/etc for the parallel mod
I was wondering about the miniseasons rewards too, as my biggest concern is that they will nerf the rewards because people can play short seasons, and it could feel like you are hindering your progress playing longer ones. Perhaps this overlaps too much with the live content part of things and they don't want to reveal any rewards structure
I made the move to veteran this year from all star for offline play, due to the nerfs to timing and the change to CPU pitching (note that directional is still as broken as ever, I just like timing because it gives the biggest spread of outcomes vs directional or zone, which skew far too HR heavy). I also dont go for high parallels. But these changes will likely have me going to all star again and chasing some of the mods
I like what they are doing with this, its a big shake up to the system (with the mod as well), but its enhancing the RPG aspect of things. And if I do happen to play online this year, and you see me stealing with Babe Ruth, please dont throw him out, I'm just trying to get his speed/speed mod done

No but it is the same modifier.
140 pxp per inning on Goat.
So pitch 5 innings with a starter in a 9 inning game and that is automatically 700 pxp before even counting Strikeouts (35 points each) per game
I can see people using the quick goat method just to get the 1/1 parallel on players
-
@Dolenz_PSN I figure I'll just keep playing how I always have and will still get to P5 much faster. if people who are not good at hitting on GOAT want to grind GOAT for a P5, more power to them, but that doesn't sound like fun if a person can't hit on GOAT.

Yeah, I don't see myself changing my play style. Just doing a little analysis of the numbers.
Never underestimate the shortcuts some players will take if it makes something faster, even if it is not as enjoyable.

I think that's why they added the mods feature, because THOSE don't get unlocked until you actually get the Hits/HR/K/IP whatever, not just raw XP. Slogging hitless through GOAT may earn you the P5, but it won't unlock the mods.

Don't underestimate some people's desire to be first. There will be plenty who will willingly sacrifice the mods temporarily to speed towards a 1/1 parallel. Then the can concentrate on mods
-
@Dolenz_PSN Like playing at Le Grasa yeah it sped up the xp and hitter pxp but it wasn't enjoyable for a person like me who wants some realism.
-
1/1 in the past was all about doing unfun things, now it will be about doing unfun things faster.
For the rest of us, parallels for hitters will be a LOT faster, regardless of what difficulty we play on. And people that regularly play on al star or higher will fly through.
-
love that we get a pitching and hitting captain straight off the bat. love that we get sort by parallel. not too interested in the 57 potential mods for every card, yet. I'll probably just rock the even +1 until I get bored, but I do like the potential for super custom squads. by the end of the year, no team should be exactly the same with all of the customizable options.

Yeah, it looks like they learned from the outrage of the fans of the 5 teams that had to wait until Finest cards were released to finally get their first pitching captain
-
@BLAISEBLAISE_PSN I for one love the customization of parallels and if you don’t want to deal with it, the default is the old way.

You must have stopped reading my comments to reply as soon as you sensed a slight opposition to the new system. The very next line, I said I'd do exactly what you said you can do, and then I went on to give it praise regarding use later in the cycle.
glad you'll love it, this time of year is the best DD fans, exciting.

@BLAISEBLAISE_PSN I wasn’t trying to imply that you don’t like it.

SDS hasn't mentioned anywhere if the Quicksell values have been lowered for 26, have they? I thought I saw a screenshot of an LS high-diamond somewhere with a quicksell of 8,500, but I could be wrong.
-
@MarioMendoza935_XBL Haven’t seen anything, but ai suspect the high diamonds are going back to 90 from 88. There are 10 90+ and 20 88+. 20 high diamonds will mean a very expensive collection.

83s are still 1500
