25 vs 26 live series collection rewards

@Dolenz_PSN The NL is already going to be very expensive, so being the NL card makes the most sense to me.

Live series collections the first month I'd assume is by a large margin their biggest money maker. I would be shocked if they didn't make as much money 1st month as the next 11 combined.
I'd probably agree. Never underestimate the need for many gamers to try and be first or one of the first to get a card. This is doubly true for some content creators.
I would still think it will be Pujols. I hate that as a Cardinals fan who has only finished the Live Series once. Shoot, I am probably screwed if he is the NL collection just due to Ohtani.
I mean, it could happen. I pulled Ohtani the other day. Only Judge, JRam and Witt shy of getting live series done naturally (well a couple random commons/bronzed purchased)

Since last year’s the year of the catcher, hope we get a high level Joe mauer collection reward. And this will be Pittsburgh’s year so hope Honus Wagner is overall reward. I do well with both those card so this is me being selfish!
-
The live series collection model isn’t going away anytime soon. SDS probably makes more money at launch from whales that drop $2000 day one to complete the collection than at any other point all year. ZERO chance they get rid of that easy money.

In recent DD history, the main collection rewards have usually been a brand-new Legend with the exception of 21 (Chipper) and 24 (Babe).
I think most players expect a shiny new toy in that spot with the new installment. Even if the primary reward was a fan favorite card like 99 Griffey Jr., there would probably be a lot of disappointed people still simply because he is someone that everybody has used a ton already. They want someone new which made the inclusion of guys like Mantle and Beltran great choices over the years to add a fresh face as the most sought after card in the game.
In that regard, I consider 23 - even though it is one of my least favorite Show titles due to Sets & Seasons - as the best overall MLB Collection in the history of the franchise as the top rewards were three Legends that people had been requesting for years in McGwire, Sosa and Jeter.
-
@SakAttack87_PSN I agree with your assessment about “shiny new toy” thats why I think it will be Pujols. Not particularly thrilled with that…somewhat slow 1B doesn’t tickle the nether regions!
-
@Bicarbonate_Fury_PSN Some good options there.
-
@Bicarbonate_Fury_PSN Pujols doesn’t fit the shiny new toy though. He was just in the game a few years ago and he’s a lot less exciting than Beltran in this game.
-
I would be surprised if collection reward isnt a switch hitter. we are too far into that meta for anything else
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS Rollins and Berkman seem like the only options for a switch hitter. I don’t think it has to be. We recently had Ruth and Jeter.

Pete Rose (I don't think he will be in, but if he is he is 100% LS collection)

If they do a career card like his 700th HR he was also listed with 3B, LF and RF secondary positions.
That said, I guess that they could always still be holding back a Legend reveal for the DD Stream or video.
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS Yeah, I think that’s a long shot, but probably more likely than Bonds.
-
@Dolenz_PSN But who could they reveal other than the guys mentioned that would be worthy of the full collection?
Another guy that might make sense is Trout now that he’s going to be a low diamond. It’s been a while since the collection has been a current player, but It wouldn’t surprise me if they did it.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN I was thinking the same thing about trout!

A-Rod.
Even though he was insane, there was a lot of criticism the year Randy was introduced in 22 as the main collection reward because he's a starter and people prefer an everyday player for how much you have to invest to complete LS.
The switch-hitting meta helps add value, but it also comes down to position rarity. Jeter wasn't a switch-hitter and didn't even have 100 power. However, a 99 overall middle infielder is really valuable early on in the game cycle so he made sense. Pujols offers a phenomenal bat, but that's about it and finding a budget power bat for 1B/DH is usually one of the easiest positions to fill so he would be too one-dimensional for a card that is going to cost millions of stubs from the start.
A-Rod checks most of the boxes.
Name Value:

New:
Contact:
Power:
Speed:
Defense:
Position Value:
Switch-Hitter:
That is the only thing he doesn't offer.

@SakAttack87_PSN ARod was the first player I mentioned in an earlier post and seemingly a lock if he’s in the game. He does tick all the boxes. The switch hitting meta isn’t a new thing. It’s always been the meta. It’s also less important early in the year. I will say that Jeter was probably the worst collection reward we’ve had. I was in no rush that year to complete it.

That's fair. I am a Yankees fan so definitely biased, but still just liked the fact that he was brand-new to the game.
As much as I enjoy his cards, I thought Chipper in 21 was pretty weak. Great swing as always, but he had silver defense at his primary position, not a great arm and wasn't fast on top of being a card that had been in the game for a while at that point. The two-way Babe in 24 also was a bit of a letdown for that same reason. Incredible bat, but not much defensively and he usually got rocked on the mound.
I thought Beltran was a perfect addition last year although there are only so many new five tool superstars they can add to the game.
-
@SakAttack87_PSN I did pretty well pitching with Babe early that year. He wasn’t great as a pitcher, but still one of the best at launch. He also had enough speed for a corner and plenty for 1B. I don’t agree on Chipper. Defense and speed aren’t important at 3B and he’s probably my favorite hitter in the game every year. I think Rollins could be a good pick, but he’s had some early 99’s fairly recently and the only box he doesn’t tick is new/returning.
