How much longer till we get AI announcers?
-
I’m really not a fan of AI in the majority of cases, but there are some uses where it could be an asset. At some point, they’re definitely going to use AI announcers, right? I’m sure they can still make them sound like Boog or DeRosa or whoever. But that would eliminate the repetition, make the calls more game-specific and tailored to your progress, and hopefully be more accurate. They could also have real-time updates pulled from ESPN or something. It would be kind of cool if we logged in today and the commentators were talking about Bo Bichette signing with the Mets.
I doubt it’s coming in 26, but I would be seriously surprised if by, like, MLBTS30 they’re still using the same recording process.
(In before “AI sLoP!!!”)
EDIT: also, they used to have my last name in the options for my RttS character, but then they took it away for some reason a few years ago. AI would open it up so all of our names would be available again.

Oh yeah so they can butcher 90% of people with long names. That'll help. Look what happened to Mike Tirico in Madden. If EA couldn't do it what makes you thing SDS will do any better? Your idea is good, but not in this circumstance. -
I have no idea who Mike Trico is, but I am impressed by your optimism.

Your idea is good, but not in this circumstance.I have to defend SDS on this one. EA puts in minimal effort in their game and haven’t for over a decade. SDS could sneeze on presentation and it would be better. EA quit trying on presentation after 2013.
Honestly, they could use the base code of Matty V, Eric Karros, and DeRosa, while having AI fill in gaps and dead air, and it would be infinitely better than EA.

AI commentary could possibly be much more varied than pre recorded lines but as someone who has messed around a lot with AI I can't see it being ready for prime time. The time it takes for AI to understand situations and respond accurately could be an issue.

Give it a few years. I remember when midjourney and DALL-E could barely scrape together a coherent image a couple years ago. Now look where we’re at. Type in a couple sentences to ChatGPT and within 10 seconds you have a very impressive photo generation. Things will continue to get better and faster. That’s why i said it won’t be ready in 26, but I can’t see it not being used within 5 years.

'Sunday Night Football,' The Olympics, Golf, etc. for NBC. Mike Tirico is a big voice for TV sports. Put some respek on his name and spell it rite 🤪

Ai is a great tool but, as with any tool, when you put it in the hands of unscrupulous or unethical people they will abuse it to the point where it leaves a negative taste in many people's mouth. The worst offenders are Social media sites.

On the flip side my Show Scout program that provides all my charts, reports and data was 100% coded with AI, all 9,000 or so lines?

I have created an app for my personal use to help me plan out tours and legs in Microsoft Flight Sim. It also will track the trips, showing all legs on a map.

Though I have not done it in a while, I used to try my hand at writing music. My early attempts were very poorly done as I knew nothing about the production side (and was a medocre player). I was able to use Suno to create covers of these tunes that sound much better and more fleshed out. My Music, my melodies for good or bad but, better versions of them.
That said. While AI is advancing fast it would still be quite a few years before it could provide anything even resembling real time play by play with the proper delivery and emotions of a real broadcast team.
