Controller Update mid game?

So my controller literally updated on its own mid game and then when it was done, it would not let me reconnect my controller so I lost the game. How is this possible? And has this happened to anyone else? Incredibly frustrating.

Dogwater luck my friend. Got me once while I playing one of the final 2 in a WZ. It happens.
