When season 2 starts…this is gonna be rough
-
I’m usually a big fan of this game but this seasons model really has no upside.
I just want to make sure I understand. In less than 3 weeks all of the season 1 cards will be useless (except for 4 wild cards which we have to unlock and at the rate of progress this year it’ll be season 3 by that point). So what is the point of team affinity chapter 3? Most of us will never get to use any of these cards. I have 1 card from that program so far and for the last 3 years I have completed every program and collected every card. Admittedly I play a lot less this year because the program layout is just such a bad one.
By the time we finish ranked or BR those rewards will expire? So why play those programs?
In a nutshell, we basically can only use Core cards starting in 2 1/2 weeks? It completely kills any incentive to play these last few weeks of the season. So why make a feature that makes people want to play less?
If im missing something, please let me know. I will keep playing because I like baseball but it kinda seems fruitless to play these last few weeks, why not just wait till season 2 starts? I imagine I’m not the only one who feels this way. Seems like nobody really thought this through.
There will be people who jump in and say, they want you to buy packs. I know that’s the idea but why on earth would I buy a pack now when whatever card I get is useless in 2 1/2 weeks. They are actively hovering me reasons to play less and spend less.

Because 90% of the events last year were either unrestricted, or had rules that allowed you to use season 1 cards. The vast majority of offline play is unrestricted, except for conquest. BR is completely unrestricted.
The only real thing the season restrictions effect is ranked, minus the wild cards. And even then, you’re going to get 4. So pick your 4 favorites. Plus it’s not like you can’t ever swap out your wild cards. Everyone will be back on the same page. You’re essentially getting a brand new game in 3 weeks.
But you’ll have all the cards you earned to use in any of the unrestricted modes.
-
I'm going with the approach that I'll be able to use the S1 cards in offline modes and modes that don't require S2 cards (like some conquest, mini seasons, vs CPU, etc.). So, besides the WC slot, I'll be using these cards to get XP and a few other things.

This idea works except that SDS will restrict program progress to season 2 eligible cards so using any season 1 cards will hinder progress towards eligible cards.
So unless SDS made the idea affinity actually what it's suppose to be using any season 1 card is a fools game

@Ericulous1 you got it pretty much correct. Don't listen to that nonsense about events, conquest, mini seasons...SDS will find a way to put restrictions on s1 cards. Maybe vs CPU games, but who cares about that?

Or you can just be completely wrong. Almost every event last year after season 1 allowed you to use the season 1 cards in some capacity. There were maybe 3 or 4 that were restricted and it was because they were featuring new card sets or TA cards

I wish online people would stop spreading this falsehood. It will affect offline folks too. Many of the Conquests and Mini Seasons released as part of Season 2 programs will have S2 Card Restrictions. Almost all season 2 program missions for accumulating stats or PXP will most likely require S2 (or core) cards.
So, while it may not be as big of a deal as online, the offline players will be restricted also. We may not need the latest and greatest cards for playing the CPU but it does not mean that we don't enjoy earning and using them.
As for wildcards, you are eventually going to get 4, and even then they did not promise 4 for every season. I think the general consensus is that we will get 1 to start the season and then will have to unlock the other 3. How long that takes or how difficult is to accomplish is up to SDS.

@dmc04005 even if you are correct not many would use s1 cards as folks that play events like to use events to grind out TA. Again not many events allow for older season cards say what ya want

It's going to blow. I'm not looking forward to starting over. I have around 2.7 million stubs, and soon for the price off 99 marte, sds will be selling us 92 overall pipeline players again. Hard pass on season 2.

True the lack of the season overlap is the big difference from last year. I'm sure there will be a big content dump on day 1 of season 2 that will get people jumpstarted in replacing core cards.
It's still going to hurt everyone though, no matter how you play. It might just be the nail in the coffin for me.

It won't hurt me personally. I'm the .01% that kind of likes the soft reset. Doesn't mean it's not a dumb idea though.

I can live with the seasonal restrictions, personally...provided they revert the XP payouts back to previous years amounts. I, like a large portion of the player base, want to feel like I at least have a chance of getting one of the bosses...it royally sucks a$$ knowing you won't get a sniff right from the get go

I agree, since I play the CPU I don't need a God Squad to have fun. In fact I'll have fun using Core cards I like, like Rookie McGwire.
I hope to see something like a Reds Paul O'Neill, which at best would be maybe an 87 OVR.
-
I just won't be playing ranked for season based game modes. I don't play enough to earn good core cards and I don't pay money for stubs or packs.
Either I just stop playing altogether or just play casual PVP so I can use the cards I saved or worked for.
There's 4-5 expensive cards I grinded and saved for that won't be usable in S2. I don't want to be told I can't use what I paid for in game. I'll play ranked again when the seasons are done and they open all cards back up again. -
For season 2 instead of a 5 pack bundle needs to be something like a new pack like we got in OLD programs ( thinking TA of old past couple years ) of years past where you got a older legends like a silver round choose 1 to 2 / gold round choose 1 to 2 and maybe have a Diamond round ( 86 to 87 ) choose 1 player out of like 3 options
-
If you want things to change then DON’T play season 2…If nobody participates in this joke then that’s the only way it will change.
-
Make season one collection cards core, I’ll say it again
-
Love it or leave it.
I am looking forward to S2 and enjoy the last days with my S1-godsquad. Both is possible, if you are willing to embrace the change.
As for the TA3-remark: most of uns only use maybe 1/3 of the cards. The others are collection fodder.
Iam looking forward to the decision making and also knowing that my favourite cards will make my team…. Just try to be a little positive

For me, I guess it all depends on the content. I'm curious to see what TA2 looks like. If it's just "rinse and repeat", I'll play less. It's a shame, because I do enjoy the gameplay (minus the foul-ball extravaganzas).
If SDS is smart, they'll increase the amount of REAL content (Programs, etc.), because that will keep me playing/grinding. I'd love to see some creative Events. I remember when they had a "low-power" event a few years ago, and I loved that. Now every event is just a home-run fest, and the rewards aren't worth it. I haven't found one yet that I wanted to play.
In summary - SDS needs to mix it up for Season 2. Otherwise, I'm worried the player base will shrivel up.
-
I'm leaning towards not playing Season 2. I already am playing much less. I have not even finished the last 3 Season Awards drops yet.
I just got my first three 99's a few days ago (Ludwick, Nootbaar and Helsley) it cost me more than half of my stubs. Of course I can only carry one of them forward until I find out what it takes to unlock all of the wildcard slots, but I have a feeling, like everything else this year, that those slots won't be easily achievable for us more casual players.
