Fielding percentage doesn't mean anything.
Yes, Soto's might be comparable to Kiermeir, but Fielding % doesn't tell you things like range, Kiermeir probably was able to get to balls that Soto couldn't, but that isn't reflected in fielding %.I understand this, but to put a guy into consideration for a golden glove then give him 65 fielding just doesn't seem right
Gold gloves are generally a popularity contest, those don't mean anything either.
Then how are fielding statistics on the show determined
Advanced stats like Defensive runs saved (DRS). UZR is another big one, it considers arm, range etc.

Your mistake is looking at fielding percentage.
What would you use then
Range Factor, zone rating, efficiency...

This exactly. For example, Derek Jeter.

Rafael Palmeiro won the gold glove in 1999 after only playing 28 games there. It’s a joke.

Defensive runs saved
-
Yelich’s 2019 stats:
-4 DRS
0.4 UZR
-0.6 ARMSoto’s 2019 stats:
0 DRS
-0.7 UZR
-3.2 ARMKiermaier’s 2019 stats:
13 DRS
6.9 UZR (nice)
4.3 ARMThose guys each play a different position though, so let’s compare each one with other players from the same position.
Yelich player RF, so let’s look at Bellinger:
20 DRS
9.5 UZR
3.2 ARMSoto played LF, so let’s look at Marcell Ozuna:
1 DRS
5.7 UZR
1.7 ARMKiermaier played CF, so let’s look at Lorenzo Cain:
22 DRS
7.0 UZR
-2.9 ARMObviously Kiermaier isn’t the best anymore, but he’s still a top 5 defensive CF. The same can’t be said for Yelich or Soto.

I believe they use UZR for fielding and reaction, and statcast provides data for arm str and acc.
Personally I like outs above average

I'll put it this way. Say Kiermaier gets to 30 more balls over the course of the season but makes 3 more errors. Who is the better fielder? Who saves their team more runs? Kiermaier all day.

Simply put and well said.

Appreciate it. That's all I needed to see
