It says on this website that it will play on the xbox one format? I've reached out to xbox and haven't gotten any response...?

Form what I can see any version you buy should come with a Xbox One version. The versions that are $69 dollars and up have both versions included and you should just need to download the proper one.
I am not the best on the Xbox so I don't know how it handles dual entitlement.

@Dolenz we got ours at Walmart, but once we opened it and tried it, I read the back of the package and it says, for use only with xbox series x consoles....Now I am probably stuck with a game my son can not play!
