I guess SDS decided that losing the opportunity to sell to more baseball fans was a bad idea. Hard to blame them for that, but people on the site will. I have my own issue with SDS (like banning me for taking a single reimbursement per the Playstation support recommendation for the first time after hundreds and hundreds of purchases. Or... the inability to get through to someone at SDS to express my concern), but none of them are tied to the actual game in 2023. I just thought maybe 2024 should have been free to me given my lost season from my primary account after dropping more than $1k on the game prior to being suspended by SDS.

Ratings Reveal Feature premiere on 3/7. Assuming they would display card art at that point, at which time we would be able to see if there was a set designation in the corner.

Lazy, I am not sure making a game for more consoles is a sign of laziness.
Let's face it, despite what some people want to believe, there are just way too many last gen console owners still out there for Sony or SDS to simply cut them off as a potential revenue source. They still buy the game. They still buy stubs.
Bottom line... The increased sales from current gen players who will only buy the game if the graphics are updated would not come close to making up for the lost sales caused by discontinuing support for the last gen gamers.

@SaveFarris The fact that they're slow-drip feeding the features right up to launch kinda hints to me that it'll be largely the same, sadly. And I play a good chunk of the modes, DD, RTTS, Franchise, and even use the Stadium Creator(which good lord does THAT ever need an overhaul and brought up to speed with what people want).
I'm disappointed the game is still being held back by last-gen's graphic limitations...I fear they're wasting so much potential. And I do mean that with all due respect to previous gen players

We're getting the ps4 version with slightly upgraded (and I mean, SLIGHTLY) graphics and the stadium creator.

I gave SDS the benefit of the doubt in 21 and 22 when new consoles were tough to come by. I was disappointed when 23 didn't do the "dual" games. For 24, it is lazy.
Give us a true next-gen game. Leave the old code behind for the old-gen and Switch players. Wow us with new graphics, etc. Do that and you'll incent more folks to move to a next-gen console.

I'm not necessarily defending it but simply rationalizing why they still support last gen consoles.
Could it be laziness? Maybe. But I doubt it. Frugalness is probably the better explanation. If I was a betting man then I would venture to say that Sony probably does not give them the budget needed to cover the extra bandwidth on the employee side.
But by all means, consider me a defender for simply trying to think about the situation logically, and not letting emotions rule my discussions. I have had a PS5 since launch day (and a Series X as of last year) so of course I would like an enhanced version so, if anything, I would be biased the other direction.

I read that close to 80% of the player base still uses past gen consoles. The supply chain issues, from a couple of years ago, probably slowed down them moving on from past gen. -

Fair enough. I'm not ruled by my emotions either, I am simply concluding that SDS is holding itself back by continuous support of last gen consoles. It's been 4 years now and the reports in the media today are about how the PS5 is entering the latter stage of its life cycle. And yet somehow they still make the exact same game for both platforms. That is just awful, PS5 users like you and me and many others have not been able to enjoy and experience a true current gen baseball game in 4 years because the product has to be able to run on an 11 year old system.

@xElRojo44x yeah. People aren't going to buy next gen while they are still making old gen games. It's that simple.
Let's not forget that $70 for a new title was introduced for next gen games. Now it's just the industry standard, but we hardly get next gen games.
Mlb 24 is going to be the exact game as last year, with little to no improvements. Designed to run on decade old consoles and the Nintendo switch.. for $70-$100. Enjoy.

Let's assume that you need two different teams to work on the game. One for each gen console.
SDS probably thinks that it's not financially beneficial for them to pay another team for the extra players that would buy the next gen version of the game. Also take into affect that a majority of the people that will buy the next gen version are already buying the game as it is.

That's fine, in that case you just make a choice and stick with it. Which would mean you develop for CURRENT gen and not last gen for an 11 year old console. Not doing so is also a choice. A lazy one. Because they can just keep riding the same old game we've had for years and years and hide behind the fact that it has to run on PS4 as well. Convenient isn't it?

The point @xElRojo44x made was that 80% of their customers use previous generation consoles. If they abandon those customers they likely won’t make enough money to actually exist as a company. It’s baseball. It looks fine the way it is. It’s a lot easier to do basketball than baseball. They have a very basic arena and half the players out on the court for both teams than 1 team has to field.

Yes, and I thought my point was pretty obvious. Guess not.Regardless, I have stressed my frustration with SDS not offering us a current gen version several times on this forum. I've played MLBTS on the PS5 since '22 and wish, as much as anyone, that we had an up to date video game to enjoy.
