Just going to leave this here:
-
Generally speaking, line drives do not bounce off of outfielders, no.
-
I’ve had it happen a couple times in 2964 games played. I promise it happens more frequently than that in reality. I had one almost exactly like this in a franchise game but it was off Outman’s shoulder.
-
No, it doesn’t. I can think of maybe two other times in about 30 years, and none of those were line drives, but rather, fly balls that were misplayed.
-
@halfbutt Maybe the exit velocity was 247 mph. That would deflect off most players, even with diamond fielding.
-
Maybe those chicks who flashed Gerrit Cole in the World Series were at your game?

@fubar2k7
That must have been it. Poor Ronald couldn’t help himself! -
@halfbutt_PSN Ironically, you can find a 5 minute long video of all of Acuña’s bad fielding on YouTube touting how he’s overrated as a fielder.
-
Interesting. Doesn’t that card have excellent attributes though?

That is a technique that is actually taught in all levels of baseball and softball. It's called "staying in front of the ball".

I remember, a few years ago, playing in a competitive softball game in CF (this was my first game in about 20 years). A screaming fly ball was hit about 15 yards in front of me. As I was running and looking up at the ball, I remember that little white dot shaking more than a UAP being caught on a mility jet's camera. I remember thinking, that no matter what, I cannot allow that ball get behind me. Therefore, instead of trying to make a spectacular catch, I just let the ball hit my front thigh (I over ran the ball by charging too fast) but managed picked it up quickly (because the ball was in front of me), and throw the baserunner out at 2nd.
