Its realistic for a super speedy guy to take an extra step leadoff it's what they do. It's not realistic to throw to that base 30 times.
It's pretty realistic for pitchers to keep speedy guys close. Because in real life if pitchers throw over a couple times, the runner doesn't just take the same lead everytime, He'll stay a little closer to the bag if he knows the pitcher is watching.
Yes but if that speedy guy can take 1 extra step and still avoid being thrown out at 1st then its something the pitcher has to deal with and perhaps do a pitch out or a quick pitch. Not throw 20 more times.
Except that doesn't happen in real life, it's a fact that a runner will stay closer to the bag if he knows the pitcher is watching. He doesn't take the same lead every single time,
You wanted to bring the real life argument into this, well that's real life, they don't take the same lead every single solitary time if a pitcher throws over.
I get that point and well taken but the game doesn't allow u to inch closer to the bag. There are 2 options only stay put or take the bigger lead no in between so again it's not realistic regardless
I get that, still doesn't mean the answer is to take the same lead 40 times

“Pickoff Cheese”.
That’s a good one.
How about you move your runners by swinging the bat?You might find after you’ve proven you can hit, that you can occasionally catch your opponent sleeping and steal a base.
The only cheese here is you trying to steal runs without hitting the ball.

also true but etiquette of games is a lost art these days but also throwing over 30 times because your worried about 1 base runner is crazy also.Yes that 1 run can mean the difference between winning and losing I get it all and the points from both sides it all comes down to the individual player period and these days we can throw sportsmanship out the window..

I'm not saying throwing over a million times is good sportsmanship, neither side shows good sportsmanship, that's not the argument.
Doesn't mean I'm gonna let anyone take a lead with their 99 speed Cobb. -

The way you make it sound, it’s as if you truly believe you’re entitled to that extra-step. What a terrible argument you’ve tried to make btw. How about worrying about advancing your runner by getting a hit with the guy at the plate? Not cheesing your way to swiping an easy bag because of that giant lead. Pick-off cheese?? Lol smh.
Counterpoint: How about worrying getting the batter out instead of being unsportsmanlike and holding up the game? Not everyone who takes the extra step is doing it to try to steal.
-
That’s weird. One of my favorite things about this years game is we can actually pick people off fairly consistently.
-
Pick of attempt should be worth half a ball. Or maybe "unrealistic" ones, but who could judge that.
-
@NotchHim Another extremely weak argument you’re trying to make. Obviously my concern is to get the batter out. Contrary to your point of holding up the game, that’s exactly what you cheesy dudes are doing by taking the big lead you feel so “entitled” to. As somebody already pointed out, irl a pitcher throws over (especially multiple times) .. the base-runner eases up on that big lead. YOU guys in game, do not. Therefore, YOU are being “unsportsmanlike” & “holding up the game”. If you need a huge lead for anything in this game .. there’s your problem right there.
-
The etiquette is clear. Take an extra step and expect your opponent to throw over. You’re the one not observing etiquette.
Everyone knows if you get an extra step with a high speed runner, it is as good as giving a base away.
Expecting your opponent to give you that is poor sportsmanship.
