Theory on Markets

This should probably go in the Community Markets section, but no one reads that so I figure I'll post it here.
What do folks think about SDS controlling the money supply to regulate card prices? Do they do it?
What if SDS wanted to have fewer stubs on the market and just started filling Buy Orders by "printing" cards? This would explain one element of behavior that really puzzles me here. I still don't understand why Buy orders get filled at below the Quick Sell price. How do people pull a card, see a button that says Quick Sell at 3750, and another one that says says Sell Now at 2500, and pick the Sell Now button? I see it happen all the time. I'm grateful, don't get me wrong, but it still puzzles me. But if SDS was minting the cards, it would make sense that it could happen.
They could also increase the number of stubs on the market by randomly filling Sell orders. So basically any time the balance of cards to Stubs on the market gets out of some perceived range, they act to restore that range the same way a central bank would.
Just want to see what people think.

people are dumb and or impatient and dont know about the quick sell. SDS introduces the market supply of cards I believe but that about it I dont think they care enough to do that when there are people that dedicate their life to market flipping lol.

You know if you choose the recent filter at the top of the page (or wherever the link is on mobile) that it lists all the recent topics across all of the sections.
So threads in that section are seen by those of us who use the "recent" option.

If SDS did what you said and got caught Sony would be on the hook with massive fines and lawsuits. There is no situation where this is worth to risk this and tarnish their reputation forever.
-
I don't believe that they create cards to fill buy orders. That is mainly impatient people who don't realize that selling now and quick selling for identical amounts is not the same result. However, I do believe they buy back sell orders. How else do you explain silver gloves being bought for 100 stubs in October of every year?
-
EA has been proven to do this with the FUT market.
-
I just would like to know what happens to a 'card' that is quick sold?
I understand these aren't real cards but when you QS something does it just disappear and is never seen again? If that makes sense.
-
The cost-benefit to micromanaging like you're describing would be prohibitive. Paying people to do this -- then hoping they don't squeal...please.
They set up the economy in DD, how hard it is to earn cards, set the tax and quicksell values, and the system runs as-is, with SDS banking huge profits off it.
That's all there is. No conspiracy needed.

I've always assumed so. One year I invested in a bunch of Topps Now cards reasoning that they were limited - each player could only earn one. Then I would buy others from the market at Quick Sell value and Quick Sell them to destroy them, creating a shortage and making my hoard more valuable as people had to buy them back for collections.
It didn't work but the Hunt Brothers would have been proud.

I don't see it as a conspiracy. Every central bank in the world does it to regulate prices. As mentioned earlier, EA does it in FIFA. I do take your point that it's probably more complicated than it's worth, though.
I just thought it would be an interesting adjustment mechanism if they ever find that they set stub rewards too high and it's creating inflation or they raise pack weight and it crashes the market.
Any way, just a thought. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on it.

I’ll admit I did it a handful of times in 22 and sold a card to the sell now vs quick sell and made a few less stubs. I did it because I felt nice and I was never in a situation where a measly 1000 stubs mattered that much. I ended the game with a couple million stubs and the only player not a 99 was Dibble and that was by choice.

I don’t think anything happens. There have been years where cards were so rare the was a month long waiting list of over 1000 people waiting to get it. If they had the ability to do anything on the backend and didn’t, it means they really don’t give a [censored] about there user base….but they’ve actually managed to add additional ways to earn those cards so it never happens anymore which speaks volumes.

It is not a regulated market. They can do whatever the hell they want to with it. There would be no fines or lawsuits no matter what they are doing. The only way they would face legal trouble is is they sold you something and didn't give it to you or grossly misrepresented what they are selling you. Not to mention you could never prove if they were doing what the OP said or not. Do you think there's some governmental body that audits the community market? I assure you, there is not. That said, there have been extremely fishy market actions as long as I've been here ('16). Do I know that they are doing something like this? No. Have there been plenty of things that have made me raise an eyebrow? Yes.

Exactly. I'm assuming the SEC doesn't monitor SDS.
-
If anything they drop more of certain players in packs if they see a need for more of that player to be in the game.
-
They 100% manipulate the market
