Negative Captain boost
-
I freely admit I haven’t spent much time using captains but I noticed Waino has a -10 K/9 tier 1 boost. Why on earth would there ever be a negative boost? I thought the point was to incentivize us to use them not discourage us from using them. Again, if I’m misunderstanding this, let me know.
-
Not misunderstanding a thing. I find it laughable that they expect us to handcuff our teams to a captain that is either not that good to begin with or causes a drop for everyone else. Most of these captain cards are average at best and their boosts make them slightly above average....but there are already 20 other cards that are already better.
-
I honestly can't imagine why anybody would want to try to use a Captain card. If it boosted all players from a specific team, and no negatives... I might plug one in, because I usually end up with a fair amount of Red Sox players anyways. As of now I'm using zero LS Red Sox cards on my squad... so it's completely useless.

I only did it for the trophy and to see the fancy 'C' light up. Same with the P3 trophy.
Once Harp got to P3, see ya! Better RF's are available. -

I think the concept of these Captain cards is awesome, but the biggest issue is that the developers decided to implement them the same year they launched the game with 99s available from the jump.
These cards would be utilized way more under the former Diamond Dynasty structure. The only way I think they can correct course at this point is to really juice up the boosts even more since so many other amazing cards are already available this early in the game cycle.

I use them now. Mostly the NLB squad to be able to pitch Satchel. Buck O’Neil is a good captain because there isn’t a negative penalty. But I’ll occasionally use other pitcher boosts. I would certainly use them more if there wasn’t a negative associated. It’s way too hard to get to the third tier where there isn’t a negative. I’m simply not going to grind that hard when there are more rewarding grinds to be completed.
Big thumbs DOWN for the negative penalty for captains.

I think they were to worried about captains being OP, that they created minuses to balance, unfortunately it's to harsh for the cards we have available right now

I don't know about others but Wainwrights is laughably bad. -10 K/9 for +5 BB/9 and+5 Pitching clutch I believe is a bad tradeoff at tier one. I did a whole post about my issues with the captains.
Ican't even afford to get Musial yet because Arenado's and Goldschmidt's prices seem to be going up faster than I can earn stubs while playing.

They dont even need to juice the boosts....just lower the requirements. I've said on other posts, is anyone gonna handcuff their entire team to an 87 overall like Johnny Damon and go online with bronze and commons in their lineup just to boost the 2-3 good hitters on the LS team that would actually benefit from those boosts? Definitely not when we all have 97-99s that are better than any of those boosted LS cards.
If they lowered the requirements to 5-6 for tier 3, id throw a few commons on my bench just to humor them but as it is now, not a chance.

The way they made it sound in the streams was that theme teams would be on par with God squads…They’re not & it’s not even close. I like the concept of theme teams but they needed to make them MUCH more powerful for people to use them online.

Captains are poorly implemented right now. Who the hell wants 11 live series hitters from one team?!?!
Like other people have pointed out, they're giving away 99's like candy, so it's a nonstarter.
The Trevor Hoffman relief pitcher one is brilliant, though. It's really the only one that's usable if you have a good team.

It is fun using 99 Darvish with an extra +10/15 on Nolan Ryan’s tier 3 boost but he really needs another 3-4 35 year old pitchers to be viable. When Kenley and Chapman get diamonds it becomes pretty good but for him to be borderline the best is underwhelming.
I’d honestly be alright with them lowering every tier by a whole requirement and giving tier one boosts to anyone that fits. Tier one is hardly a boost it’s almost a trade off. Tier 3s for 6 or 8 guys isn’t going to break the game anymore that 98 overall squads a month in.

Exactly. The captain thing was obviously thought of before they decided to just release juiced high overalls early and often. I could see this developing into a fun feature in the future but it’s certainly not viable right now
