The baseball video games need to include women thread was locked

Turned into a bit of a slinging match so understandably it was locked off.
There needs to be some conversation about the issue. Let’s hope it continues, and in a civil way this time
-
Is this a joke
-
Nope! Change doesn’t happen if the issues are swept under the rug for future generations to deal with. Indigenous Australians were not granted the right to vote in elections until 1962. Why? Because it took around 175 years for them to be recognised as true citizens of the land they inhabited long before Europeans came along.
Certainly not saying that a video game featuring women will suddenly eliminate misogyny in the world but it’s all about chipping away and rewriting the norm.
-
How does this relate to voting and citizenship???
MLB and MiLB players all guys. This game simulates MLB and MiLB, so there is no women to put into this game.
FFS, not everything is racist or sexist or any other -ist.
-
Pretty sure they're going to follow the EA Sports ethos when it comes to this topic.
"If it's in the game, it's in the game."
Tattoos weren't in baseball video games until players started sporting them regularly.
Crazy haircuts/facial hair weren't in baseball video games until players started sporting them regularly.
26 man rosters weren't in The Show until they were in MLB.
As soon women start playing professional baseball (Geena Davis doesn't count), I'm sure The Show will start putting them in the game.Until then...

Never said the game was racist or sexist. Don’t know where that came from. And before the assumption is made, I am far from a keyboard warrior.
Perhaps the game could expand beyond the MLB?
I know what you’re thinking, it’s called MLB The Show. True. But that’s just a name.
Why am I pursuing this? Do I expect things to change? I don’t know, really. Do I think it should change? Certainly not because of me. My opinion isn’t important, not yet at least.
I will say this, the reason I brought up the voting rights thing is because up until 1962, and even for some time after (hell, they weren’t even included in the census until 1967), it was accepted by the public that indigenous Australians had less rights than white Australians.
Imagine that - feeling like an inferior person in the country of your ancestry. The only country you’ve ever known, a land to which you’ve been raised to have a special bond with (I’m not talking [censored] here, there’s a connection there that is beyond our comprehension). To not have a voice in your own country. All the while knowing that the people around you were ok with that because that was the norm, and you live your whole life accepting that.
Now imagine you’re a young girl who loves baseball. You grew up with it, your father plays it, your grandfather plays catch with you. You play t-ball at school and little league, but as you get older you start to realise there really aren’t that many females represented in the sport. You play MLB The Show and theres no women there either. The older you get, the less girls and women are playing. And the other players talk about how it’s a man’s sport and that’s just the way it is. You start to think that maybe there’s no place for women in baseball after all, because the people around you are ok with that because that is the norm. So you quit, and you live your whole life accepting that.
Yes there’s no denying that baseball is a male dominated sport, but shouldn’t we be asking why, rather than just accepting it as the norm? Could we chip away at it instead? Where could we start? How can we encourage and help those girls who want to play baseball feel like it’s worth their while?
I hope I’ve clarified what I meant.

Happy to have the conversation open, but PLEASE keep it civil and respectful.

This isn’t a change that needs to happen.
This isn’t even a real issue, you’re just trying to make it out as one.If MLB has a successful woman player, then sure it can be included. Until then, leave it out.
Case closed.
-
The reason women aren’t in the MLB is because we have yet to see a woman who is physically capable of it. That’s it. If a woman were ever skilled enough to compete in the MLB, I would hope that there wouldn’t be any issues with her joining the league. In a video game, there isn’t any issue of skill discrepancy between men and women because it’s only fantasy. In a video game, it’s possible for a woman to compete with men, basically because anything is possible in a video game. Therefore, there really isn’t any reason why, (other than no demand for it) we couldn’t have a female created player or RTTS option. I’m all for it.

By that definition, players born at sea shouldn’t be in the game, because there hasn’t been an MLB player who was born at sea for over 100 years. It’s possible to create a player born at sea in Road to the Show.
By that definition, those people asking for the option of league expansion in Franchise mode are wrong and it shouldn’t be included, because the MLB has fixed not flexible leagues. It will probably be included in the future.
By that definition, we shouldn’t be able to mix live series cards with Legend cards, because that’s simply not reflected in the MLB. We can do that in DD.
I’m not making it an issue, it actually is an issue, for those who it’s an issue for (eg girls who would like to have an option to play with female players).
For sure they are under-represented on this forum, but they are out there.
Why would they want that option?
Yvette Nicole Brown last week on Talking Dead said that the reason that Michonne was such a special character to her was that she identified with Michonne. A badass black woman who had her head screwed on and was lethal when necessary but also was fiercely protective of those she loved (I’m paraphrasing). Whether we admit it or not, we are drawn to characters we identify with in sport, games (hence I can’t relate to GTA), movies, music, TV, popular culture...
The case might be closed for you, but it’s not closed for those thousands (and thousands more when the game goes multi-platform) who would like to see female players in the game so they feel represented. Even if it’s only 5%, that’s at least 40,000 PS4 players alone (add to that the Xbox and Nintendo players come 2022).
How and when that happens is up to Sony and the MLB. Like I said earlier, MLB The Show is just a name.

How bored do you have to be to make a thread about this non-issue, then write paragraphs of absolute junk to keep it going. This is a baseball sim. The end.

Thank you anyway for taking the time to read my paragraphs.

There are genetic differences between men and women, bottom line, and denying that with smokescreen arguments referencing Australian Aborigines is completely off the mark. Generally speaking, with few outliers, men are physically stronger, hence the reason that men only play professional baseball. If that changes, I’m quite certain that you would see women in the game, and rightfully so, since the games intention is a realistic simulation of baseball.
On the flip side of the coin, men can never give birth, that is a genetic, anatomical difference. Should we seek change from such injustice? My point, denial of such reality is a futile existence.
-
Lmk when you can find a woman that throws 95 and can hit a 100mph sinker then this can become an actual discussion. Until then you’re wasting everyone’s time
-
Considering all the fantasy nonsense already in DD, there really is no good reason we should not be able to create a female CAP at least.
I think they are just saving it for a big cross platform reveal, when they add Samus and Princess Peach diamond cards.

I got banned and blocked talking real history and facts like this. Anything that would cause school textbooks from.being rewritten is subject to ban. Includes anything of substance about any topic..Mind you I was just adding to a thread.Stuff you can Google with a tag "4Horseman of Bank and Oil" and how you can down a rabbit hole just from googling that to what is happening now. Also how certain families that are part of the Fed Reserve Cartel which isn't part of the US but World Bank gangsters.Same people who cause that housing crisis and top heads seen no jail.$20 mil severance for taking advantage of poor. Capitalism.Communism. and socialism are built around the main ism that has been exploited FOREVER CLASSISM. Banned me for being political. Its not Its a fact of life.Again building on someone else's thread at the time..I came for baseball .Something I know something about. No sheep here Shepard maybe

Didn't even know that locked thread got revived until just now.
But while we're on the subject, you guys are totally fine with Class A Nolan Gorman having better attributes than Eddie Mathews, but cry realism the second someone suggests a 14 year old girl playing the game should be able to create a female CAP.
-
They should make it where you can create a female player. Lot of daughters out there who would love to have themselves in MLB THE SHOW as a created player just like their brothers can.

A couple of things that I would like to say in response:
- Baseball isn’t just about physical strength. Ichiro, Dee Gordon, Jose Altuve, Chad Bradford, RA Dickie, Rickey Henderson.... etc
- Are you suggesting that the best women playing baseball would still not be as good as the worst men? At a school level we’ve selected girls for state championship teams because they have not only been better than some of the boys who trial, they’ve been the best players who trial. Furthermore, we need to stop telling young girls and (especially) boys that baseball is for men because men are better.
- Women-only births is not a man-made exclusiveness. Baseball’s gender bias is.
I’m not advocating to have women play in the MLB. Although the idea isn’t necessarily a bad one.
