I posted this is in the MLB the Show Reddit, but I'm trying to get as much feedback because I hope its not just me.
Hitting is hard right now. It feels almost impossible after recent patches.
When I came over from 19 - my first MLB the Show - I sucked at hitting but managed to pitch pretty well. Now in 20, I cant do either - with the exception of the first week of the game where I could manage a few runs before that horrid patch.
Now I know I suck at hitting in 20. On RS I linger between 370 to 470 and have yet to break 500.
Im lucky if I score one run in a game. I played a 13 inning game where me any my opponent only had 2 hits a piece up until the 9th inning and neither of us were using any OP pitchers. (My lineup is almost all diamonds)
Its depressing. I feel like I'm trying to hit a golfball that's remote controlled to deliberately and precisely avoid coming close to my bat.
I got so fed up I changed to directional so I could just forget about the PCI and I got a lucky home run off it. Changed back to zone and I can't get a hit.
Late on low 90s fastballs and above. Early on high 90s fastballs. Late on offspeed. Popping up virtually every pitch regardless. To top it off I'll give up a solo or something on an actual good located pitch and that's all my opponent needs to win.
It's so depressing that I have to wonder... What's the actual point of grinding or even buying great players if I can barely get any hits? What's the fcking point in wasting all that time for no fcking tangible reward?
You might as well not even bother with online play. Feels like a gut punch every single [censored] game.
It's already affecting how I feel about the rest of the game. Flipping stubs is very time consuming with the current margins, but I keep at it so i can save up to slowly finish collections. But if I cant hit at all, no matter the player, why am I wasting my time?
I'm at the point where I dont want to actually play this game at all anymore. Never thought I'd get to this point.
I used to look forward to logging on and grinding out some daily challenges. It was fun. Playing as a crappy all Rangers team on RS even though I'd knew I'd lose almost every game was enjoyable because I knew I'd get Gallo. Same for the Padres to get Tahtis.
Now it feels like a minimum wage job that you cant wait to leave and rush home to play video games. I'm now tempted to play just about anything else.
I'm a casual, but I like grinding to get better players so I can have a chance at some actual fun - like scoring a few runs in a game even if I lose. With these recent patches that's getting harder and harder to do, let alone be a possibility.
Can you imagine how someone just starting off with a bronze team in RS will feel after a few games?
Every game is now basically going to be that feeling of a despairing fail that makes you want to simply stop playing. It really sucks because theres so much great stuff in this game, but that seems to irrelevant when I cant actually do the two things you are supposed to be able to do in a baseball game; hit and pitch.
Switch to directional and don’t look back.

oh F off. you are the reason this games is hard. everyone needs an uber competitive [censored] measuring game. go play real baseball if you need a challenge. my real life is a challenge enough. cant a game just be fun? id like to sit down and play a game that doesn't cause me to have high blood pressure.
This game is as easy as you want it to be offline. If you’re playing other people online, it’s not going to be consistently easy. That’s just not how playing other real people works lol

The timing window is completely shot with hitting and the PCI is as small as it’s ever been. Pitch speeds are also faster than they’ve ever been.
My honest opinion is they got butthurt at all the complaints out the gate and cranked everything up as an FU to the community.
Everyone needs to kiss and make up and SDS needs to find a happy medium. The game was playing great at launch.
99% of people saying it was too easy weren’t even at HOF yet. It was rewarding good input. That is completely removed from the game now.
Pitching is a mess, you can’t paint corners or anything really. Sometimes you’re forced to throw a meat ball because you know more than likely you won’t be able to locate your pitch.
Fielding is a mess. I’ve legit lost games from outfielders not locking on to fly balls.
Baserunning has a mind of its own. Sometimes the runner will just keep running.
Of all the stuff I mentioned, the most broken aspect of the game right now is that timing window. It is completely shot.
And if you leave pitches cranked up so fast, we will lose all the new players you acquired this year. I know a ton of them personally that are about to quit.
We had a lot of momentum coming into this year’s game. Even with it’s flaws, last year was a success. SDS is the only company in these team building games that isn’t a bunch of crooks.
I still believe in this year’s game. The next patch has to get back to what was so fun at launch.

PCI size and pitch speeds are a big part of the problem.

Each game hitting feels different to me. Some games I catch up to 100 mph fastballs easy and the next game I am late on 94/95. I play on a monitor and have no idea how anyone could play HoF on a tv. Frustrating

I’m enjoying the game. I think If more people tried directional hitting, classic pitching, and throw meter off fielding, they might enjoy the game as well.

I'm right there with you. I said in the off-season that this would be the year I fully switch to zone, and I used zone up until the most recent patches. But I ran into the same exact problem. Can't catch up to the fastball, swinging at the curveball in the dirt, so I switched back to directional and I have not looked back. I don't care what people think, at least I'm getting a few hits now and winning a couple games here and there. I wish this game didn't feel like a job

While I agree that the timing window almost seems random most games, one important thing not to overlook is your opponent. Many players pitch and fall into patterns making it easy to sit on certain pitches. I don't sweat it if I don't get a hit my first time through the order. I just make mental notes of the order and location of their pitches. Take pitches to get good looks at them...just because it's a strike, it doesn't mean you have to swing.
One other thing I find helpful is looking at their pitch usage about every 15-20 pitches just to see if they're trying to muscle me with heat or annoyingly only throwing changeups in the dirt. There are a lot of games I'll find myself down a couple of runs going into the back half of the game only to turn it on because they're throwing yet another high inside fastball because they either don't mix it up or they remember I missed it once, so they just keep going back to it.
I use my first time through the order to try and get timing on certain pitches. Sometimes I swing at garbage just to time it up. In a 9 inning game, if you can keep the other team under control, it's not hard to pick these patterns up and mount a comeback. Of course, then you'll win and people will come onto this forum screaming "COMEBACK LOGIC!!!" but they're crybabies anyway.

lol, no it isn't. offline pitchers rated 63 can dot the corners and never throw down the center "mistakes". I make "perfect" pitches and they hang. GTFO of here. Ive been playing this game since it was made by 989 studios. I know what's what, and this game is not right.

Are you joking? I threw a perfect game with that 84 AJ Burnett against the cpu without even trying. It’s weird if the CPU can get more than 2 hits in a full 9 inning game. Also have to purposely get out just to end the games. And I would consider myself slightly above average at the game.
If you struggle that bad you need a lot of practice. Or you can go play outside of DD and adjust the sliders however you want.

I agree the game is way too hard to hit on HOF. Today I won 4 of 5 while batting .217. I batted over .300 easy the last 3 years.
The pitch speeds are too fast. The timing window for good swings is tiny, and they dont reward good contact enough. There are still "good" "okays" on great placed pci's.
If the game keeps playing like this I will probably quit soon.

The timing window is not wrong, it's just small. A little too small, yes, but it's not wrong at all.

This game has been updated to make the already expert players that much better than the average player like me. I use directional hitting for two reasons, 1. I cannot get the hang of using the PCI with any consistency and 2. I don't see where a PCI has anything to do with a real baseball game. Bring the experts down to using directional hitting and they will be no better than me or any other average player using directional hitting. Let's play baseball like it is intended to be played, not with a carnival type target game. Hopefully this game will be vastly improved for everyone to enjoy & compete on an even keel when PlayStation 5 comes out at the end of the year.
