How many hours are PS controllers supposed to last?
-
I have two PS5 controllers, and it seems like I have to switch them out every day. I let one charge while I use the other. It seems like I have to swap them more often than earlier this year (I got them in the spring of '21).
Just curious what the lifespan of these things are.

Batteries do lose a little of its capacity to hold a charge over time and over usage. Since the PS5 controller uses a lithium ion battery, there will be significant loss of capacity after approximately 400 charge/discharge cycles. So I would say the lifespan of a PS5 controller that has not been broken due to slamming of said controller due to game rage would be approximately one year!

I found that when my controller was brand new I could use it for about 24 hours. I find my game works better when it is plugged in anyway and I no longer have to worry about remembering to charge the battery. Like the other poster said that over time battery will eventually lose ability to hold a full charge over time depending on how well it is treated, but eventually need to be replaced in time regardless.

Thank you for this. I will get a long usb-c to usb-c cord and plug my controller into the front port.
@dap1234567890 I guess I'm doing pretty good then. April will be two years of playing nearly every day for at least 4 hours.

I say you are doing good. I had to get my second PS5 controller probably a year and a half after getting the console. I keep my controller plugged into the console 98% of the time.

ive had the same comtroller for like 4 years...it still works but the stick drift is awful and the charge is about 8 hours worth of play time. I need a new one, but I don't feel like buying one until I get a new machine.

For the record, PS4 controllers lasted me way longer than PS5 controllers do. Its not about the charge either. I wear the X button out and then all my hitters start check swinging at every pitch I try to swing at. Very frustrating and expensive lol

This has been happening to me lately. I didn't think about the button wearing out. Ugh. I wonder if I can find an MLBTS 23 and PS5 controller package deal this coming spring.

The original PlayStation 5 controller with the FCC ID #AK8CFIZCT1 is known to go bad with the stick drift and other issues regarding wear and charging, but the new controller should be fixed since Sony specially made it to combat the original problem. The new controller FCC ID will be #AK8CFIZCT1A.
So make sure your ps5 controller has the number AK8CFIZCT1A on the back under FCC ID. The bad controller will have the FCC ID of AK8CFIZCT1. Hope it helps some

Looking at the bottom of the controller for those numbers made me realize my eyes are old! They are so light on a light background and really small in size. I almost needed a magnifier to figure out that my "new" controller is one of the "old" controllers!

Yeah I had to use a flashlight and could barely see it since it was rubbed off some

Take a picture with your phone and then make it bigger. That’s how a lot of us old people get by.

Sure enough, my controller ends with a 1—time to get a new one.

Be careful with a new one too! I bought a new one and the touch pad is bad so half the time I can’t type on chat but other than that not that bad lol
