Pedro Throwing 102mph?
-
I watched Pedro's entire career and was a big fan.
Never backed down, and wasn't afraid to put you on your rear end. That being said, Pedro NEVER threw 100mph, let alone consistently throwing 102mph.
He was 95-97 4-seam with a ton of run, and just plain filth. The only Starting Pitcher to throw 100mph consistently for 9 innings was Nolan Ryan.
Period.
End of story. They don't need to add 5mph to his fastball. The card is already whack!
Historical consistently, people.

I'm waiting for a Glavine card with outlier. Just about as realistic.

Glavine hits 98 in this game. Should be topping out at 94 max. Unfortunate.

While you are spot on about Pedro, you are wrong about Nolan Ryan being the only guy to hit 100 through 9 innings.
Pretty sure Verlander was doing it in his prime. DeGrom when he is healthy will consistently hit 100+ all game. -
Unrealistic? Sure
But I’m glad they gave outlier to Pedro to make him a top pitcher in this game as he should be
Especially since many didn’t use him last year due to his low H/9
-
They need to minimize the PCI so that the only solution to make pitchers better isn’t just give them 154 MPH pitches. Like I dunno, maybe make movement matter by not allowing me to cover 60% of the plate without moving anything? The simplest solution isn’t always the best.

The pci on legend is just about correct.
That is where the batting averages settle in.On AS and lower the game is a homer arcade.
H/9 should be the most important pitching attribute Period.
In 1999/2000 pedro came in with a WHIP of .71
That is what should matter. And the 102 thing is pure baloney.
Buy the pitching/hitting engine is being exposed as the only thing that matters is power and k/9

I haven’t heard about power and k/9 bit. Is this your opinion from what you’ve seen with cards or are other ppl saying this. Just asking bc I don’t usually prioritize those attributes. I usually look at hit/9 and pitch mix for pitchers, and a combination of attributes for hitters. Usually look for a minimum of 80 power, 75 vision, and 100 contact.
I get how power can help, but how does k/9 help? If your opponent makes contact, it’s not a k. Does that attribute do something to pitches to make them harder to make contact with? Less foul balls? Genuinely curious

Pedro touched 100 MPH when he wanted, lol! All you have to do is watch the first 3 batters of the 1999 All-Star game where he K’d up Barry Larkin, Larry Walker and Sammy Sosa on 100 MPH heaters. I get not liking parts of the game, just make sure you’re being factual as well.

People didn’t use him because he didn’t get a No-Hitter card. His H/9 were 102, this year they are 109. 109 wouldn’t compare to all of the No-Hitter cards with incredibly high H/9. I agree with you that he was a great pitcher. One of the best of his time. So was Greg Maddux, should he get outlier? Don’t get me wrong, I love the card; but him having outlier is a bit strange. However, It’s a video game, so no harm done.

The point is he couldn’t do it regularly, for the duration of a game he started. Not whether he ever hit 100mph. Plus, a card without the outlier quirk can throw a pitch 100mph.

Its the problem with every sports game. They focus on beating out the cards of last release rather than giving us real content. Once you are in the "Age of 99s" there is not much you can do other than start juicing everyone. Personally I was very disappointed that there wasn't team affinity programs throughout the year like last year. I liked the setup they had where you unlock better players throughout the year and could take it at your own pace.

I agree completely about the Team Affinity removal. That was my favorite aspect pf the game and I loved building my team from ground up through those programs. That said, this year seems to have been a better slow flow into the 99s whereas last year once Degrom was released it opened the floodgates. To your point, you are spot on about them trying to beat their previous releases.
To everyone else's point- Randy Johnson was another 100+ in his prime.

You can say that again!

I agree with you on this but only IF they dumb down these future stars cards. Hall of Famers should never be rated lower than a prospect, PERIOD!

They will have to just get rid of them if they are dumbed down though. No one is going to use them otherwise. Most people don't use them already. They dumbed down topps now cards this year and those are borderline worthless now

It won't happen but that would be fine by me. I think the should release these prospect cards at the beginning of the game so folks that like them can use them for a month or two. Topps now cards are beyond dumb too. Getting a 95 because you got 2 hits in 1 game?

Pedro didn't throw 100mph consistently in his career at all... he hit 95-97 average the first half of his career and averaged 91-93 the second half of his career. He was a power pitcher, sure... but what made him great was never his velocity. There are a few pitchers with outlier that didn't sverage 100mph, but it's a game and juiced cards are more fun. You can say they give out power ratings to guys that didn't have 30 HR in their career too. There are also future stars with ratings better than half of
the hall of famers released and haven't even played a full season yet. DD isn't supposed to be the mode most realistic to baseball... it's more of a fantasy mode and juiced cards are what keeps us engaged. If they released a Pedro with a 97 mph fastball... people would complain how bad the card is.
