They gave up a ton for a possible rental? If Soto doesn't sign there this could be one of the worst deals ever. And if he does 1 billion tied up on 3 guys? Uhg

They probably trade Machado down the line. He's the oldest of the 3 main guys and you just can't have that much money tied up into 3 players

Good point. Hosmer about to get paid! Boras represents Hosmer, Soto and Bell. Hosmer is gonna get a nice cut from somewhere

Tatis,Machado,Cronenworth,Grisham,Soto and Bell? That’s a lot of offense on one team.
The Orioles traded Jorge Lopez. I woke up to this news. So annoyed right now, I swear the Orioles will trade away their stars as soon as they start to get a buzz. Sucks to be an Orioles fan. Still a die hard fan.

I am sure they had a contingency plan since they knew his likely reaction. He will probably get paid a bit more to accept the trade.

A couple points if all of this is true.
- If you are the club you should check with the player with the no-trade clause before putting him in a trade.
- Hosmer would be hated by SD fans but he asked for and got the no-trade clause from management so if he declines it is on them.
I can't believe though that it has gotten this far and been this widely reported if Hosmer could simply squash it with a word.

Yep! A lot of young talent kicked to the curb! 12 games back in the division and they could easily lose their wildcard slot which would make this a historic L! Not sure how this makes them better.

This will be good for the Nats. Dodged that big contract of Hosmer.
NM, just heard that San Diego was gonna pay next 3 years of Hosmers contract if he went lol

The deals isn’t nearly as sweet for the Padres if Bell isn’t going too. A switch hitting first baseman with great power and pretty decent contact.
