On a more serious note: Ted Williams won the triple crown in 1942 and 1947 but did not win the MVP either year. Williams led the eventual winner (1942 Joe Gordon / 1947 Joe Dimaggio) in every offensive catagory except stolen bases those seasons.

A far bigger snub was "Citizen Kane" losing Best Picture to "How Green was my Valley". A travesty!
I bet all my BFF's out here didn't realize I was a film buff. I'm quite the Renaissance man.
May not be a popular opinion, but I still haven’t forgiven the Academy for picking Forrest Gump over The Shawshank Redemption.
Loved both but Shawshank is in my top 5 of all time.
-
Shawshank became more of thing because it was always on TBS, but at the time Forest Gump was the bigger movie... Same with Pulp Fiction that year... Years later Shawshank and Pulp are the better received films. It’s like how Dances with Wolves beat Goodfellas (R I P Ray) at the 91 oscars.

Than Todd Helton not winning the NL MVP in 2000? Jeff Kent won it that year but if you look at the stats I just can't see why.
Jeff Kent/helton in 2000
Hits- 196 / 216
Avg- .334 / .372
HRs- 33 / 42
Rbis- 125 / 147To make it even more confusing Todd Helton finished 5th in mvp voting this year. Was anyone watching ball back then and have any insight into this season? Was it coors field?
I don't really see that as a snub. Yes, individually, Helton had a bit of a better season. But it wasn't by a wide enough margin considering he was on an 82 win team and Kent was on a 97 win team.
A snub would be someone like Mo Vaughn winning over Albert Belle or Edgar Martinez. Or Juan Gonzalez winning over anyone or again Juan Gonzalez winning over anyone.

Nolan Ryan never getting the Cy Young.

3 pitchers were snubbed for the atrocity that was Rick Porcello's Cy Young in 2016
I remember that year. Britton was a leading story all year, ended the year only giving up 4 runs the entire season. Curious who you thought the 3 snubbed pitchers were. I would say verlander and britton for sure. who's your 3rd? Kluber?
Yeah Kluber. Sale might even have been a better choice than Porcello. It's I'm fairly certain the only time in the history of CY young voting that someone that had more than 1 or 2 less 1st place votes won. Verlander had 14 first place votes to Porcello's 8. Thanks to 2 AL east beat writer losers that left Verlander off the ballot to give Porcello a chance
I can't stand baseball writers. So much of baseball is truly beyond me. Unathletic writers controlling awards and turning the HOF ballots into popularity contest and rumor mills, fans voting for the all stars, the top 2 teams having higher salaries than the bottom 2/3 of the league combined. Crazy game that somtimes feels like it hasn't adapted to the modern age imo.
Baseball is slow. The game is slow. Any changes, no matter how much sense they make are slow. Even something as simple as netting down the lines in the stands took years. Financially these top market teams make these bottom 2/3 payroll teams profitable. So the owners aren’t in a rush to change that. Don’t even mention a salary cap. That’s taboo.
League needs a Salary floor. The whole small market/big market nonsense is just an excuse for owners to be cheap. There is no such thing as small market teams in anything but baseball

Yeah in 2000 Coors field legitimately was different. They have changed it up since then. They didnt start the "humidor balls" until 2002. Which means breaking pitches lost most there effectiveness and even FB's would lose 3 in of break.

Iron Maiden not being in the 'Rock And Roll HOF '
Complete joke.Best post if thread. Finally putting Priest in this year is first step to fixing that mistake.

I heard Priest gets in from some special category or something.
Bigger joke are The Eurythmics. I love Annie Lennox, but how are they worthy of HOF status? -

I still can’t figure for the life of me how that even happened
But here’s a good snub: 1917 not winning best picture at the oscars in 2019. Lost to Parasite.

I still think braun beating out just barely short 40/40 kemp was a joke. I believe braun had 8 points higher average but kemp had homeruns, RBI, WAR, led the league in runs, and SB. then a few months later braun was caught on HGH which is a travesty

The 1990 AL Cy Young
Bob Welch - 27 wins, 2.95 ERA, 2 CG, 127 Ks, 125 ERA+
Roger Clemens - 21 wins, 1.93 ERA, 7 CG (4 were shutouts), 209 Ks, 211 ERA+Even leaving out ERA+, Clemens was better and should have won. Welch wasn't even the best pitcher on the Athletics, but since he had 27 wins he won the Cy Young.

Wins used to be the end all be all for baseball writers. Now we all understand that wins have little to do with the pitcher and more to do with run support.

Some people say Matt Holliday should've won it in 2007, but narrative and quirks play a huge role in MVP votes. J-Roll being in the 4/20 club (20 HR, 20 SB, 20 2B, 20 3B) and him calling his shot that the Phillies would win the East (against the stacked and favored Mets) and then willing the team to that title was a big story.
As for MVP Snubs, look at the 1952 NL MVP votes. Hank Sauer won it over Robin Roberts despite Roberts being easily the best player in the NL that year. Even back then people were baffled, and assumed that the voters just had their secretaries vote in their place.
