My dad always said when the trade for brown was made the city just knew we were going to the world series. We've been heartbroken every year since
You're Dad is right on! Maybe not knew we would be going to the World Series but we knew we had a pretty good team even before the Kevin Brown trade. Once that trade was made though, that gave us a true stud number 1 pitcher and changed the entire complexion of our rotation. Definitely after that, we knew we would be very good and had a great opportunity to do some damage. That 98 season was a fun ride. Hopefully we've got another one coming in the not too distant future.
Nando, some pen reinforcements coming off the IL, and a couple moves at the deadline puts us in a great spot for our deepest playoff run since 98
Agreed. The fact that our record is what it is, with our bullpen struggles, nobody hitting except Machado and Hosmer, and Fernando being out is pretty impressive. We'll get the bullpen figured out and I think we'll make a few moves before the deadline. I'm hoping for that deep playoff run!

Definitely gonna drop a band on some playoff tickets if we go to the NLDS and further

This is how it should’ve been last year, a battle between the Padres and the best team in baseball for the NL West

I loved him IRL. In this game he may be frustrating because to be realistic he would require a windup that included about 2 years between him setting and delivering a pitch. Mark Buehrle he was not.

It should have been. Unfortunately the Padres couldn't live up to their end of the bargain with their 2nd half collapse. I hate to admit it, but the Dodgers are THAT good and they'll be there until the end. I don't see the Padres having a 2nd half like they did last year with Bob Melvin in charge so I'm looking forward to an exciting NL west race down the stretch.

I mean our rotation is better and it's not like the dodgers lineup has really been performing like people thought they would. Its hard to listen when dodgers fans say theyre the best team in baseball every year even though they havent won a full season world series since the 80's

Aren’t they the best team in baseball? According to the talent they have they are. It should be very scary for the entire league that a team not perfoming as expected is 30-13.

Kevin Brown has been my #1 SP wish since I began playing DD. Wouldn't surprise me if he was a real b!tch to negotiate with. Guy is a well known curmudgeon. Equally nasty on the bump tho!

Theres no doubt that theyre a great team. But we dont have our best player and our entire bullpen is hurt except for our closer as well as numerous guys underperforming and we're only 2 games back and very well could be tied if not for a few late game collapses. My statement isnt so much I dont think the dodgers are a good team but more I think the padres are also a great team and are a few pieces away from being better than the current "best team in baseball". You found it funny but it's not that funny when the so called best team has come up short for the last 34 years.

As a Rockies fan I have no skin in the debate of Padres v Dodgers. Agreed that the Padres best hitter is out till after the AS break. Still, if anyone in the Dodgers lineup went down for an extended period, anyone 1-9 in that lineup is capable of stepping in to fill the void. The same cannot be said of the Padres…they are one Machsdo injury away from being on pace with Denver.

I would say that if we had last years pitching staff. With our starters seemingly going 7 innings of 2 run ball or less every single game any lineup can compete. Manny is a workhorse. Leads baseball in games played since 2015 hes not slowing down anytime soon. These last 2 months have been the worst lineups we'll produce all year. Fernando will be back and we'll go get a bat or 2 at the deadline and make things very interesting
