Struggling to steal bases on lower difficulties. Seems everytime I try to lean toward second or tell my runner to steal, pitcher throws to first or does a pitchout. Any tips to help me out or is stealing bases generally a waste of time?

What type of base runners are you using? If they're high speed, high steal guys then I have a few tips, but if you're using guys with high speed but low stealing ability (Travis Demeritte comes to mind since he's a new card) it may be more difficult to swipe bags.

Make sure it’s a guy who should be stealing.

    Don’t take a lead off.

Wait until there are 2 balls.

That’s all there is to it.

Mainly high speed (at least 88) and high steal (at least 75)

You can't steal on the first pitch. It has to be either after a pitch out or when the hitter is ahead in the count. Even then you still might get thrown out. My P5 Buxton and P5 Turner are sti sporadically getting gunned down playing rookie conquest.

I do get lucky sometimes but it seems like the second I move to start a steal, the cpu instantly adjusts for it.

Do you like gambling in slot machine ? Because it's exactly what it is but you'll be more rewarded if you try in real steal situation.

I don’t even bother unless I’m just trying to hit and run. I obviously don’t know how to do it because the pitcher always knows and will pitch out or pick me off. Even if I wait for the pitch out or a 2-0 count, I’m still getting thrown out by a mile with a 99 speed runner.

    I’m lost.

    A few quick keys:

    • check who the catcher is and his throw power/accuracy. I haven't been caught stealing much, but the ones that do throw me out, even with a good jump, are high throw power catchers.
    • make sure you have high-speed (sometimes mid-speed will do), high base-stealing runner (Lofton, Ricky Henderson, etc.)
    • do not take an extra step. The cpu is aggressive at pick-off attempts. Best to just stay put.
    • do not go on the first two pitches. The first is almost always either a slide step, pitch out, or both, so you'll be thrown out regardless of who's on base.
    • if you can get ahead of the count that's best (2-0 and 2-1 or 3-1 counts). Even counts are sometimes pre-programmed for off-speed pitches, so it's 50-50 if you really want try it.

I've only been thrown out three times with Henderson (on 50+ attempts) and haven't been thrown out with Lofton yet (20-some attempts), so hopefully these help everyone.

    Against the CPU:
Hold r2 for about 5 seconds
While still holding it take a lead and hit the steal button
    Release r2

The pitcher won't throw over to the bag as long as you only take one step. Not a guaranteed steal but being able to take that step helps

here is the key, you take a step holding L1 and R2 at the same time when the pitcher looks over or down in the stretch. Get 1 step, release L1, still hold R2 then activate steal by pressing L2 then release. You will steal the bag everytime with any runner 72 speed and above.
Holding R2 while taking a lead prevents the pitcher from throwing over. But has to be timed just right otherwise the cpu might still throw over..

It's definitely been harder this season compared with past seasons. I usually try and wait until 2 balls like a previous poster put. But, still get thrown out too much even on lower difficulties even with high speed/base running guys such as Turner, Buxton, etc.
