There's no "player to player" trading of in game currency here. SDS relies completely on metadata and the underlying time stamp associated with transactions.
If I list Giambi for 10000 stubs and Crypto buys it, the timestamp on that transaction matches us together. It's not a blind anonymous transaction.
Let's say that they identify me as the bad actor. They're sure going to look at the other side of my transactions to see who was part of it. You know that once they have that population, they parse for common themes and drop the ban.
Yeah, innocent people will inadvertently get a ban. Overall, it's better for business than taking another week to investigate every single person.
And after all, it is a business for them.
I'd bet that one buy or sell to the bad actors here didn't result in a ban of an innocent. I'd say that it would require a time stamp of WHEN you listed that buy/sell and when the bad actors were making the transactions.
-
Not wrong...shouldn't blame the community for taking advantage of what many innocently enough thought was a genuine turn of luck in their favor. It's easier to ban en masse than to actually find the culprits.

I've been pretty silent on this but I'll give some opinions now. As a person whose job it has been for over 25 years to manage, store code for and debug data, here's my take...
SDS did the right thing by banning innocents inadvertantly. Every minute these stubs and activity is out there, it becomes harder to unravel and causes more harm to the market. This year, the market has been more stable than ever. People haven't been making millions flipping. That says it all.
SDS has the data to back up ANY claim of innocence. If you are in fact innocent, send in your ticket. Be polite. Cite some dates and transactions. It will only help expedite.
Like many other "veterans" of this community, it's not "our" population affected by this. Why? We know better man. Simple, and factual statement. We've seen shady stuff over the years and know that you either buy stubs via the appropriate parties, or earn them through the game.
Streamers advertising 3rd party stub sellers and people thinking those sales are legit, I don't have sympathy for. Those same streamers are likely getting kick back from those 3rd party sellers.
I'm sure there are innocent people that have been banned. I get it. Innocent before proven guilty works with laws, but not private companies in an online virtual environment that you agree to use under those terms, everytime you log in.
the streamers should get banned too for advertising said sites
Only way I’d ever known about the place.

Streamers won't get banned because they do a better job at promoting their product than the actual 10 second TV commercials do lol.

What an idiotic statement. If I get a card for daily login reward my cost is 0. If I sell the card for ANY amount the profit is by definition 100%. I’m not quite sure if you are ignorant of the English language, ignorant of basic economics, or a lot of both. I DO believe you are mistaking the terms profit and mark-up though.

Terrific. I work in IT as well. You are clueless when it comes to how competent SDS/EA/insert big company is at investigating these things. I was banned by EA and it took multiple weeks for those idiots to resolve the issue. Giving people a 24 hour ban would be fine, but EVERYONE that got that ban is still banned for a full year now.
Let's be honest here. The MLB community is a joke size wise compared to the other big sports games. Nobody cares about the "grizzled vets" who have no sympathy for anything.
LOL wut?
Are you thinking that SDS doesn't have metadata on every market transaction performed since it launched this year?
Data is being sent and written to DB2 storage tables everytime you buy and sell cards, whenever you complete a game and/or are granted XP in any form.
I'm not going to get into a keyboard battle with a stranger over my general industry knowledge and how data interacts with a console, web, phone, computer etc interface. I managed data for over 15 years in financial services and have helped launch products for Strat-o-matic. Coupled with testing I've done for legacy Sony Online Entertainment products (predecessor to SDS) I kinda know how stuff works.
You fail to mention the fact that there's no way that SDS has people digging through all of this and making coherent decisions until they are forced to. They have the metadata at their disposal but I'll bet anything you want that they are so undermanned that they don't have time to do anything with it.
-
I sent a ticket asking for a 2nd chance. Got a response but it’s not happening. Think I’ll go back to 21. Come back next year if things get better with the game itself.
-
There is a silly [censored] who promotes his YouTube channel on all of SDS' tweets, until this situation occurred. I checked his channel out once and he was partners with a 3rd party stub seller. Thought I'd check his channel again and I see he has a video up where he is telling his subscribers how to get the stubs they wrongly bought on their new accounts.
Plus in the comments people are talking about either a person or program that got rid of the ban. Why does SDS allow these channels to exist?

Let's say they have half of one head count dedicated to data mining. Guess what? People got banned due to the data. Doesn't take more than an hour, some API's, export and filter in excel.
TBH, more bad actors got banned than legit mistakes. Also, as many "vets" have said here and other places, they didn't get the ban hammer. Some even placed legit transactions during the period in question when stuff was being manipulated.
So what was your point again besides attempting to be confrontational?

That is a bit harsh.
Companies issue verbal or written warnings first, then suspension after, not just 'youre terminated,' but I don't make the rules. -
I am still trying to understand how I go from a 24-hour ban, to 365 days? I opened like 3 tickets and no response. This is really frustrating because it is literally the only game I am playing on the PS5 right now. I even spent the extra $15 on the MVP edition.

SDS stores and see what each account has and does. If you pulled Trout from at pack at the same time the market was all over the place and you right away put in a sell order you would most likely not get banned as SDS can see the time stamp of the events. This would even be the same if you had Trout from a pack in your lineup for sometime and reacted to the market to see again not likely to get banned. Now if you bout 2 or 3 Trout at the 330k mark then 20 mins later all of a sudden his value spikes and you seel them right back well that would look a little suspicious do you think. Just something to chew on and let's be honestly anyone who got banned are they actually going to tell you the truth
Right before this all started on Monday I was working out what it would take to finish off the gatekeepers. I was about 150k away and I had more than enough sell orders (diamond equipment) to finish. So I put happened to put in buy orders of 200k on Trout with the expectation that they weren't going to go through as there were probably 40 orders ahead ranging up to 320k. After listing a few more sells I hit the "my orders" button and noticed that two of my orders were missing. I locked one Trout in and listed the other for sale at 388k which was the lowest bid at the moment. I realized right away what was happening so I stopped working the market and put in buy orders on my remaining gatekeepers and finished the collection.
So my question is did you get banned or did you avoid the ban hammer?
Not banned.
Probably should be tho. Not only were you buying and selling during this fiasco to make a huge profit but also to finish off the rest of the gatekeepers. You said it yourself, once you realized what was happening you started putting in lowball orders on the rest of the gatekeepers. The rest of us will have to grind/buy that. You deserve a ban more than a guy who just sold his one Trout. That's my opinion, I don't care what your retort is.
I never said low ball offers. In fact what I paid for the five I needed Ohtani, Scherzer, Guerror, Acuna, and deGrom was 673,626. Right now the same cards tally 672,675.
Kinda funny to be lectured by an Astros fan on what is cheating tbh.
Props for the Astros trash-talk. Pun very much intended.

You still have no idea what I'm talking about. People were BANNED from a game they paid real money for and for no reason. You thinking you are an IT whiz is hilarious and very indicative of old school IT guys tbh lol
Data says there was a reason. That's why they did it.
Every finite transaction, financial services, online game, leveling up, obtain a piece of loot etc, has a time stamped indicator. It's what allows any company to perform rollbacks. It's the same metadata type of literal line data for a stock trade, completing a mission, swiping your credit card at Starbucks and having your bank pay them, all while Visa takes their cut.
SDS performed their research, identified the start and end period of the transactions they were looking for, added some conditions, and handed out the bans. Processing of this is pretty simple. Sorry that people can't see it.
Did innocent people get banned? Yeah. Absolutely. To say there was no reason is incorrect. The reason is that time stamp and condition. Individuals affected should contact SDS. If SDS tells them to take a walk, that's too bad. File a claim with your credit card, and get a refund for buying the game.
I'm not saying anything about right or wrong. I'm merely trying to explain how the process likely went down.
Code, algorithm, data storage etc is all way more complicated than it was even 5 years ago, nevermind 10 when I did it every day. Yes, I'm old school. I learned from even older school folks.
Everybody is different. Some people think and speak in multiple languages. Some people are excellent at mechanical things with their hands. Some are athletes with drive, natural talent and ability that others don't always understand. Some people think critically about how a process was performed and attempt to apply their experiences in an effort to explain, troubleshoot or diagnose what happens.
I understand how SDS likely went about this. I'm trying to explain it on a forum. Sorry that you don't like my explanation or agree with it.
Want to know who to blame if an innocent person was banned? Blame the bad actors and not the company. Their house, their rules. Don't agree? Pick up the ball and go home.
edit
There's an MLB discord out there with a market bot. Go blame that group for alerting people to fluctuating prices from bad actors and inviting people to take advantage.
