I stopped reading after you mentioned the only online you’ve done is playing event games today.
Cause none of this stuff happens in any other gameplay? You really want to go that route?
I’m going the route of not bothering to read a wall of text titled “my annual assessment…” when it’s based on only handful of online games. Yes.
Not just a handful, a whole day of playing. I've been doing this assessment every year in the exact same fashion, and I have identified issues that were at some point in time generally accepted by the community as a whole each and every time. Sorry if I didn't meet your criteria.
Anytime.
bob you are an absolute clown - just useless words you throw around in this forum - @raesONE_PSN has been around here for years, is one of the best players in this forum, and you give your 2 cent opinion on his thread - what an incredible bore you must be in real life
Sorry. Name calling doesn’t really do it for me. Feel free to try again, though.
Maybe when he’s played it online more than a day.
Exactly primarily offline then a day of events lmao

So I've been playing offline since release, grinding all the programs and what not. So during that time I always keep my opinion to myself, because we all know offline usually plays fine and you don't really run into the issues that could spoil your experience.
Today I've been playing the event all day long. And it started out okay I guess, some slugfests here and there and just getting my feet wet. Nothing out of the ordinary. But the more I played, the more recurring themes I encountered.
First and foremost, the amount of bloopies/flukies or whatever you wanna call them are simply ridiculous. I understand that it is a part of baseball and it is totally fine if they happen occasionally. But the volume of bad swings that get rewarded are just out of hand at this point. We all like hit variety and we all want contact hitters to be usable, but not if this is the trade off. And that's what I feel is happening here, these hits are a thing because of the complaints regarding lack of hit variety in the past in my opinion.
What I also noticed is that the game, once again, forces my perfectly executed pitches into the strike zone. This was a thing in 18 and it feels the exact same to me in that sense. I have given up staggering amounts of homeruns on offspeed pitches that I spotted almost in the dirt and executed perfectly, yet somehow ended up in the bottom of the strike zone. Why are perfectly executed pitches being punished? What's the point of mastering PPP, which was introduced to widen the skill gap mind you, if you're gonna reduce that skill gap once more by adding randomness to the pitching outcome?
Then I've noticed that contact hitting is broken. Again. Try it for yourself to have a laugh. I played 5 games in a row swinging with the contact button exclusively and I hit 430ft homeruns and got 110+ mph exit velocities all the same. We can no longer see our opponent's feedback, but I wouldn't be surprised if many of the players in this community do the exact same thing. Since it widens the timing windows, allows for more solid contact and still gives you the same exit velocities.. why would you ever normal swing or even power swing?
Then there is the overall performance of the game in terms of fluidity and choppiness. I play on PS5 on performance mode and I played in a handful of created stadiums and major league parks that once again induce frame drops and choppiness all around. As if I'm playing on my vanilla PS4 all over again. Try playing an online game at Target Field and you'll see what I mean.
Another thing that seriously irritated me is the amount of weak flyballs and even pop ups on swings where the ball is entirely in my buckshot, albeit in the top part of it. But that's what the game wants us to do, no? Lift the ball with power hitters? So that's what I'm aiming for and I get okay hits for weak pop ups. Again, this reminded me of MLBTS 18.
Last but not least (for now) is the amount of freeze offs STILL HAPPENING. Like how on earth can you not find the issues to this problem for all these years? I can't help but think that these people just don't care or have given up on this problem like "it's part of the game, get used to it". That's unacceptable and laughable in a sense.
I have tried my hardest to find some good things to say as well. I guess I do like the sound off the bat, especially during a perfect/perfect. I also like the fact that fielders have more urgency and you're able to gun a lot more people now with good throwing input. But that's about it.
I'm sorry, but the game is just not very good. Again. I hate that it gives me MLBTS 18 vibes, but that's really what it does. Hopefully the upcoming gameplay patch that has been confirmed will fix many of these issues. If not, I probably won't play very long.
Edit:
One thing I forgot to mention, the PCI anchor. This feature was brought because people wanted to be able to have a sensitivity slider for the PCI. This is not that! The feature is terrible because it is basically guess pitch lite. People can just sit in a certain part of the zone and take away a whole part of the plate. I noticed that some people do this and don't swing until the ball comes into that part of the zone. I don't see how this has anything to do with skill and I think it's a terrible feature that should be removed asap or should be barred from online play.PCI anchor completely has taken away the high fastball
Yes it has, that's my gripe with it. I debated it with some buddies yesterday and one of them said "well isn't it the same as holding the PCI pre pitch in a certain location though"? And I argued it's not nearly the same, because that still requires you to keep your thumb in that spot instead of leaving it stationary. I challenged him to try it in practice mode and then to the PCI anchor and he came around and said that it is not nearly the same and way easier with the anchor. Which is a problem if you want a game to be competitive. There's a reason guess pitch is turned off for online play, I believe this should be too.

🥤🥤🥤🥤I don't want to fight anyone. I defended myself where I thought it was neccessary and proceeded to block people who I felt were getting personal. This is just me sharing my opinions, I am totally okay with people disagreeing. That's why it's called an opinion, right? But when people try to undermine my opinion based on things that are not correct (like stating I only play offline), I feel like I have to set the record straight. Which I did.

You nailed a lot points over noticed as well. Good read on this one.
I’m not seeing the usual defenders on this thread, that’s interesting cause they usually show up to give they’re excuses of the gameplay or call someone a “conspiracy theorist” or “you just blame the game cause you suck” and the famous “it happens in real baseball”…..they’re no where to be found here lol…..wonder why.
Maybe those that you call "usual defenders" actually do not defend the game as much as blasting the incoherent nonsense that many spew on this forum! Those "defenders" are not here because Raes actually has well thought out opinions rather than a long whiny post that blames everything on the game for all their losses and swings and misses! There's a big difference between Raes' posts and those other posts.
This, Rae's doesn't come on every single day to say the same thing repackaged. I may disagree with some of his claims (primarily this being shades of 18), but I respect the way he presented them

For the life of me i cannot get very many hits with contact only. I use regular swing and i get gappers that lead to doubles or triples, but mostly singles.
I think when it comes to online play, pitching/strikezone is the achilles heel. To many people paint corners out of zone forcing others to swing at garbage basically, then they throw some obscure pitch in the area of a zone that was not intended for that type of pitch. And this forces players to resort to getting a hit by any means possible, whether contact swing or bunt.
Pitches need to be nerfed more to prevent certain pitches from being allowed in certain areas of the zone at least without punishment. I have people throwing curves, changeup and sinkers in top part of zone and it gets in there without punishment. PAR needs to be bigger in those areas.
As far as the PCI anchor goes i could see where sombody would think it feels like guess pitch lite, but i think it works for intended pupose. If you have a player who excels at hitting piches in a certain zone then you are going to sit in that area regardless. PCI anchor just allows you to lock it it in to prevent the person from pulling up or down causing pop up type hitting. Part of the responsibility is on the pitch/player to know the batter's weakness and basically don't throw it where his strengths are.

I respect your opinion as well, but similarly disagree with most of the points you make. But there's good in that, we are all different people with different desires and expectations. As long as we're happy or satisfied with ours, that's all that matters.

For two weeks last year this forum was the most peaceful its been in a long time. Now everyone hates each other again. We’re about a week away from another Joe Carter thread that ends up with two people wanting to fight each other IRL.

Please don’t feel as if im attacking you or anything like that, just stating that the forum seems way more volatile this year than it was last year at this time.
No worries I didn't feel attacked. I just wanted to clarify that I don't think I've been the aggressor in this thread, not just towards you but for anyone who reads these comments to see.

I don't see how this has anything to do with skill and I think it's a terrible feature that should be removed asap or should be barred from online play.I honestly can't see how anyone can be enjoying online play in this game. It rewards bad players( and I'm not great, but I'm routinely a cs player) the foul ball bail outs, followed by the perfect pitch that just gravitates to the middle of the plate. Its ridiculous

It has nothing to do with being sensitive, it's protecting myself against being baited into more toxic behavior. If anything that's a very sensible thing to do if you'd ask me.

It’s what people do when they can’t handle criticism. Along with talking up their e-peen, telling people that disagree to shut their mouths, and retroactively editing their posts to save face.

Anytime.
Anytime? That's your response? Okay.
Breathe. You don’t need validation from everyone. It’s not personal. Everything you said may be true. I just don’t care to read it because I have the ability to think. You know, small sample sizes.
You don't read because you think?
The profound irony in that statement is staggering.
Thinking here is the ability to assess if something is worth reading or not due to its origin. If you need help developing this and other critical thinking skills please let me know. As a former educator it was kind of my thing. (Seriously, lots of resources for you.)
Former educator of what? With that attitude...
If you are as smart as you are claiming you would have followed up appropriately on the fact that this person does this every year. Gameplay is usually consistent. Not sure why you think the sample size is inadequate; this isn't a poll.
Also, I would think a former educator would have a little more humility and be less condescending and venomous. Almost makes me wonder why you are a former educator. Maybe you were in it for the wrong reasons if you have to be this snide rather than genuinely trying to educate people.
You can't just be a condescending douche, immediately discard someone's analysis one sentence in without taking context into account and then claim you were an educator. Something is wrong with this equation.
Usually people who have to push so hard on people what their qualifications are usually tend to be making it up or lost face because of their attitude. You saying "former" raises a lot of questions in the context of your posts. You're quite egotistical and childish for an educator.

High school social studies. Specifically media literacy, psychology, and modern world history. I took a lower stress and higher paying job working from home in 2020.
I would argue that more people need to be filtering their information and disregarding much of it.
And thank you for the baseless insults and name calling. Keep fighting the good fight.

I didn't see anything about reading, English, statistics, philosophy or anything comprehensive and you were disregarding of someone's analysis a sentence in, completely disregarding the context so obviously that particular area is not your area of expertise and you are stepping into a lane you might not have authority on. Just food for thought. Being an educator of some things doesn't make you an educator of all things.
Filtering has nothing to do with it. You literally disregarded an entire argument without even taking context into account or asking questions and made assumptions. Sorry, but that is actually a LACK of literacy. Now you're doubling down instead of admitting your mistake with a "I'm a teacher" card, despite not listing expertise any subject that actually pertains to comprension, which is quite amusing.
What were the baseless insults and name-calling? I don't recall presenting any of either. My comments toward you were technical and correct. Douche, perhaps? OK. You were being disrespectful, I'll correct myself because based on how you've treated people in this thread, if you think you are going to trap me into stooping to your level so you can deflect, project and consequently excuse your own poor behavior you're wrong. You're merely getting back what you are giving and seem oblivious to it. Lack of self-awareness is a bad trait for a teacher. Not to mention underestimating people to the point that someone having an area of what you perceive to be poor literacy means you are dealing with an overall stupid person because in this case you are not.
To be an actual educator you need to learn that people don't tend to learn by being condescended to, talked venemously to and being treated like garbage. Humility, respectfulness and patience are needed to be an educator and you clearly fail at all of those, which is alarming as those traits being needed is basically education 101. It's rather embarrassing for you to act like you can't understand why people wouldn't be receptive to "learning" from someone who doesn't have those aforementioned BASIC necessities to actually teach people things. People not reacting well to someone being a douche (excuse me, disrespectful since you you're gonna pull the passive-aggressive card) to them. Imagine that.
There. I just taught YOU something. Whether you actually learn is yet to be seem. You seem quite disingenuous, really.
