. But they have no direct competitor in their niche of someone looking to play a baseball video game, which is what people are talking about.

Sports video games have come to mirror the leagues they represent. There are natural monopolies the major sports leagues have because there's just no room for a competitor to join in, there are too few additional fans to win over and stay viable, and the barriers to entry are way too high.
There is no space for a true competitor now that games have gotten so expensive to develop, especially since the price of games today is way below what it was 20 years ago, adjusted for inflation. The leagues themselves are also wary of trusting their brand to an upstart company, and the major players in sports gaming are content keeping their monopolies in place so they don't risk challenging rivals to compete with each other, which would decrease all of their bottom lines.
Basically, competition is good, but it's not going to happen unless something major happens to the industry
Excellent assessment, my friend. And 100% true.
Let this be a lesson to all the smelly hippie Socialiasts out there!
Don't think for one minute 'ole Vladdy Putin likes free market economies and competition. In the current face of WW III, makes our video game complaints quite petty.
Proselytizing a political agenda on a baseball video game forum? The algorithm is cutting deep.

RBI only existed because Sony kept the show console exclusive, 1 year on Xbox and it's discontinued. ootp is a high level fantasy baseball simulator, which is good for people who want it, but without any actual baseball they won't cut into the market much. Super mega baseball is a cartoon arcade game that's one step above 9 innings, and one that releases once every 2-4 years. Also has no mlb rights. You can continue to split hairs but there is no full game out there that is direct competition that would drive sds to need to innovate or take chances, which was the point of this post. The fact that the games you listed have to stick to a small segment of the market and cannot compete as fully developed realistic baseball experience games just furthers my point that a natural monopoly exists in the market.

MLB The Show: the ONLY baseball video game published on disc (sometimes) made in Southern California employing people named Ramone whose mascot is a mustachioed puppet senior citizen with a vaguely East Coast accent.

due to lack of competition SDS has been cutting and pasting for almost 10 years.
For the 8 millionth time: anyone who says SDS doesn't have competition is lying. On purpose.
It's like saying "American Idol" doesn't have any competition whatsoever because there's no other first-run competitive televised singing competition that airs in their time slot.
They don’t have console competition, they have a phone game competitor which owns the rights to more legends than SDS. They’re getting out muscled by a app company called GLU. If they had any competition you wouldn’t be crying about Anime on cards.
