Sounds like Freeman’s representation screwed him over in negotiations with the Braves. A story has emerged that Freeman told his camp that he preferred going back to Atlanta rather than changing clubs and it was said that the Braves final offer was 145 for 5 years and very likely would have been bumped to 150 for 5 years which is clearly more than the Dodgers had offered who notoriously backload contracts meaning Freddie will not be paid most of that contract until the end of it. Also the AAV of the Braves final offer was still higher than the Dodgers. What’s even more disturbing is that apparently Chipper Jones warned Freeman to not play games with the Braves front office, that doing so would not end well for him. Also it appears that Freddie’s representatives were also lying to the Braves front office in an attempt to squeeze out an additional year. The Braves front office called their bluff and moved on. Freeman was apparently devastated by this and told Chipper in a zoom call he was seriously considering firing his representatives. This has definitely opened my eyes to how some of these agencies operate to the detriment of those they represent. This was certainly eye opening. I feel horribly for Freddie and his family and the Braves franchise

Really? You feel horribly for a multi millionaire and his family who have to move to sunny SoCal?

I think Freddie and his family will be just fine.

    LMFAO.

Glad something opened your eyes finally. If only it was for something more meaningful. Freddie will be alright, I promise.

Its a bad PR move and potential a bad marketing move for the Braves but not a terrible baseball move. They get a guy who will probably hit nearly as well, possibly a better defender, a bit cheaper and quite a bit younger. They did lose some good prospects but comparing first baseman to first baseman its not bad for the Braves.

I hate the attitude of "they are millionaires they will be fine". To me it's such a whiny woe is me take. When you have money in the bank are you always walking around smiling happy to lucky cause I doubt it. Just because these guys make a lot of money doesn't mean they aren't human beings and don't still have emotions.

Freddie's an adult that gets to make his own decisions. If he didn't like the deal his agent(s) worked out, he always has the option of getting new agents. If his agents acted outside of directed orders, then he can sue them for fraud.

Short of that, he signed the contract. Now he has to honor it.

I agree with you if, for example, one of Freddie's kids had cancer or something.

But it's ludicrous to feel sorry for a multi millionaire in this situation. So he's having second thoughts about leaving Atlanta? Poor guy is going to the top WS contender on a huge contract.

I feel 0% sympathy for him.

He just won a World Series and probably has good relationships with a lot of Braves players. Like I said these guys are human too. Am I crying for the guy? No but I also don't act like they don't get to show some emotion too.

In a weird way, I'm glad to see this wasn't just a cut and dry, went for more money to a "better" team, that he actually wanted to stay.

(Side note) Obviously the Braves are World Champs but I think we can all agree, the Dodgers are again the likely pick to win it this year.

Well as a Mets fan and with the hype the team has this year I can confidently say they will not win it!
Dodgers are always a good pick, don't sleep on the Blue Jays either. I'm sure they will be a hot pick

Oh trust me, I am absolutely in favor of the Mets over the Dodgers. I've been preaching that while Scherzer is a huge pickup, your offense upgrades are major. Marte is a all around beast, basically a healthy Byron Buxton with a little less power haha. He will slot into that lineup beautifully. Eduardo Escobar is another fantastic addition as is Mark Cahna. Now if Lindor can have a bounce back season like he started to at the end of the year, this will be a formidable offense. And they may add more.

And you're right, don't sleep on the Blue Jays...I'll add the White Sox to that.

Any link to this story as I read a very different version of how Freddie ended up in L.A.
