MLB The Show 22 Trailer thoughts

I remember back in the 5th, 6th and early 7th Gen when Sports games used to show off the capabilities of the hardware. Around the middle of the PS3's generation that for some reason stopped.

We all understand that yearly releases make it hard, while now "maintaining" a game for about 6 months and to develop a sequel. But while maintaining a game makes it hard, you now also have a cash flow from the ridiculous slot machine simulator in Diamond Dynasty.

I believe we should be seeing larger graphical leaps, and Jersey animations in The Show. These Jerseys fit, and reacts stiffly. Nearly the exact same way as the Show 13 on PS3. Cmon now. Have some pride SDS. Especially now that you're fully Mulit-Platform.

SDS

Look so bad. Copy of 2021. I dont buy. Game over for me

They're still having to accommodate for last gen consoles. The switch is more of a different story but the One and the 4 is still being used as the core code for the X and the 5.

When those aren't supported anymore, you'll see a difference.

I think it's more than hardware differences. There are plenty of games out there that have progressed in the graphics/gameplay standpoint.

When I'm playing The Show21 on my PS4 (2021), there are multiple times where I get literal flashbacks of playing The Show on my PSP(Over 10 years ago)

Just for the heck of it, I went and looked up MLB 07 The Show gameplay on PSP. The "Early Swing" animation is EXACTLY the same on The Show 21....

5th gen:

7th gen:

The “leaps and bounds” portion of development is a thing of the past at this point. Short of a technological breakthrough, future enhancements are going to be minor.

You're talking about straight up graphics. Yeah, we won't see many advancements in that department.

I'm talking about the actual gameplay. How the players move. How exciting it is to see your "Diamond" player make an amazing play compared to your "bronze" player. Besides the player name and number, it would kinda all look the same. They got the different batting stances in there at least I guess

An engine rebuild will happen within the next a couple of releases. Bethesda finally rebuilt theirs that they've been using since the first Legend of Zelda.

Each generation of games get better when a new console launches. It looks great on Series X. Zero complaints from me.

SDS

Not impressed. Looks the exact same as ‘21. Lipstick on a pig.

If SDS compiled the code with the 120fps patch from both Sony and Microsoft…that would be a huge win, and I would instantly purchase. Sony and Microsoft did the heavy lifting for SDS with the patch…and all SDS needs to do is check a box that allows the code to compile with the 120fps patch…and SDS can’t even do that? Doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in SDS, TBH.

120fps and the Negro Leagues…or I am not interested in ‘22 at all. I already have ‘22 based on what I’ve seen so far… and it’s called ‘21!

SDS

What’s with the grey tarp on Mt. Davis?

Ooohhhh Negro Leagues. That would be pretty sick and get a lot more fans to buy the game.

SDS

‘21 got absolutely flamed. Hope SDS watches the whole video…and also reads the brutally truthful comments as well.

Imagine MLB The Show on the same graphical engine as the new Matrix game.

Every day I play this game and read these posts, I thank God that I know nothing about computers and play ONLY this video game. It's looks fantastic to me. Absolutely amazing. The last baseball video game I played was High Heat on the OG PS. I am not even remotely criticizing what any of you are saying. When we love something and have a talent to the degree that we are somewhat of an expert, we see the cracks in the facade far better than the average person. So for those of you who understand coding, computers, video games etc. I can understand why you view this game as subpar. But speaking as a baseball fan who hasn't played video games since junior high (a long time ago) this game is [censored] fantastic.

SDS

Last Gen it took until MLB 17 for the game to really start showing off PS4 graphics. That was the 3rd game into the gen.

But wait a minute! It's not 720gazillion frames per second! It sucks!🙄

I'm talking about everything. From the graphics, to the same reused animations, clunky transitions from practice awing to batting stances. As I said same fit of their Jerseys from the PS3 era. Heck, if you go through all if the Batting Stances and Picthing animations you'll notice several are the same, but counted as separate. This just isn't even a debatable.

Some comments are being ridiculous. Yes MLB The Show 21 looks good. And better than last gen version, HOWEVER! MLB The Show 22 could look much better. This is a sports game for christs sakes. This isn't an Open World RPG, with severe particle effects, dynamic weather, and a several enemies attacking you at the same time in a variety of ways.

Stop sticking up for laziness. SDS is taking our money for a product we want and care about. Ask for better.

Man, this is literally the first baseball game I've actually played since Ken Griffey Jr. on the N64... I've loved (and hated) every minute I've spent in '21.

I'm far from a game developer but a coder... My thoughts as a coder (keyboard jockey) for 2 intranets across 10 offices and ~30 different clients... MAN, IT'S ROUGH. More and more requests (cough) action items and the same amount of people.

Could some things be smother or a little more detailed? No matter what the DEV's do, the answer is always yes. They have their own goals within their respective areas... You know what? Someone above them has a request and it's "the most important thing ever".

Do the DEVs want to polish their respective areas? Yes and they're constantly wanting to get back to THEIR goals for the game.

Are the DEVs being spread entirely too thin? [censored] right.

Not you Eric but a lot of people don't understand some of pecking order. Those DEVs want to spend an entire day on the one thing to make it perfect. I once spent an entire day making a close icon pulsate like a heart beat (worth it).

Sorry for rambling but moral of the story is: *The DEVs are trying to deliver their "end game" vision... They know what needs updated/polished but they're Fing buried.

Be nice and thank a DEV, they're suffering more than you.*

I'm right there with you. There are just way too many assets being re-used from YEARS ago. Not sure if I said it in this thread or a different one, but the "Too early" swing and miss animation is exactly the same one they used in The Show '07 on PSP. Like, Really? In a video game that every session is basically exactly the same thing. It's baseball. We pitch, hit, defense. There isn't any crazy graphical/technical gameplay going on.

Complete overhaul is very much needed. BUT it's the only real MLB video game in the market so we're kinda screwed..

Exactly. And the thing that is particularly frustrating is PlayStation's alleged "demand" (for lack of better term) for good, quality titles known for their attention to detail, and polish. And I am not saying the whole of MLB The Show is poor. It isn't, it is for the most part fairly good. But it could be MUCH BETTER. Especially with it's animations, and it's graphics.
