Will news regarding next year's game be pushed back?
-
Cover Athlete most likely. Game itself, no

No because MLBTS has rights to both MLB and MLBPA.

It will 100% be Ohtani on the cover for 2022

I don't quite see how the game would be much fun if the season is suspended or on strike. I know they can do certain programs but live series updates, all star and home run derby, Postseason world series, monthly, Topps moments, field of dreams would not be there just to name a few.

The thing with 2020 was that the season was delayed, the game with the player's likeness was still in the game. With the lockout there could be a real possibility that if the lockout continues when the game comes out that there wont be any actual active players in the game.

But the 3rd post in this thread states that SDS has rights for both MLB and MLBPA, which would suggest anybody who is currently a member of the MLBPA is under contract to SDS, regardless of the issues between them and the owners. Am I missing something??

You’re right that the programs would be non-existent, but DD is not the way to have fun playing the show lol. I think the programs gone means we could all get back to the real reason of The Show, which is playing that life of an up and coming ballplayer. Over the past few years it feels that SDS is loosely losing grip of RTTS being the focus of “MLB The Show”. I personally think it would be more fun without DD programs hogging all the time with mindless grinding.
I think it’s great that it can give SDS more time to focus on RTTS and franchise instead of so much into DD programs.

I agree with you that SDS should add focus to other game modes such as franchise and RTTS. But I definitely think DD is the way to have fun playing the Show, at least for me and many others. I played the show for a few years prior to this and have always enjoyed it....for a month or so. I set up playoffs brackets with friends, develop a young player, build a team and within a month or so, I lose interest.
This year I finally decided to do DD. It's now 8 months later and at 1:00am on a Sunday night, I'm playing a conquest with players past and present and still loving the game.
Now, that is what appeals to me. Collecting cards and items. Completing programs, having hundreds of players from baseball's rich history to build teams with. And from there I can compete in many different ways. This morning, I played against a buddy where we each could only use players from our favorite teams, me the Cardinals and him the Astros. It's the ultimate fantasy league.
I am not saying that other modes can't be fun and certainly if they added resources to those modes, perhaps I'd enjoy them more. But for me and many others, if DD is barren, I'd have far less interest.

Alright I hear you. And see that sounds all well and good, but I’m the only guy in my group of buds that loves baseball and plays it on a video game, so those online modes don’t mean as much to me as the singleplayer modes do.I’ve done DD for the last 3 years, and each year by June I’m burnt out from grinding the darned conquests, collections, and the DUMB duplicate cards my lord that’s annoying. But RTTS is what I can play day after day living my dream of a career. Trying to get my cursed Mariners to the World Series. I just think The Show should be more about RTTS than DD. That’s why the game has its status that it does.
