How are pitcher challenges still unable to track 1/3 of innings?
-
If I say, need "40 innings" with Mets Pitchers, why can't 1.2 innings of Seth Lugo and .1 inning of Edwin Diaz count as 2 innings? Why must the pitcher retire the side in an inning for that inning to count, when that isn't how it works at all in the real world?

Thirds of an inning were counted until last year.

No they weren't

No idea why they don’t address this, and I totally agree with you that it’s ridiculous that the partial innings don’t count like they do irl

They definitely kept track of thirds. The year they had hidden career milestones definitely did. I 'member real good...

I know there have been times where I really should have taken my pitcher out and I just leave him in to finish the full inning. Sad (and dumb on my part) but I do still do it.

This is the kind of small detail that SDS has no excuse ignoring for so long. Its literally miscounting stats if you dont pitch an exact number of innings. Ive been bringing this up for years and i have yet to hear a reason why its been neglected.
Imagine if the game didnt count triples. You got a 3 base hit and it just didnt appear in the stats. So you either stop at 2nd or try for Home in order to have your stat counted....thats the kind of problem we are talking about.... but for pitchers.
I think about it almost every single game. It effects challenges. It needs to be fixed.

haven't noticed this year, but last year it wasn't just get all 3 outs, I had instances where the 1st pitcher gave up a hit or 2 and brought in a new guy who got all 3 outs but the inning still didn't count.

That still happens, yes. The way it works is that a pitcher has to retire 3 batters for it to be an inning. So you could bring a guy in the 7th inning with 2 outs, have him get the third out, then the first two outs of the 8th and it would register
