He’s got good stats but he’s kind of in the same bracket as Wainwright. Nothing elite about Urias. He’s pitched all year and has a WAR of 4. That’s not bad, but there are 20 other pitchers ahead of him in that category. He has a good WHIP, but very low on quality starts. I’d say he’s a fringe Diamond

I’m not taking sides or anything but when you look at advanced metrics, he’s a very vanilla pitcher. Effective but nothing flashy.

Relievers are a different animal. Starting pitching is about Quality starts and Wins. Its about performance. There are NO excuses for not making a Starting Pitcher with a 19-3 record a Diamond card. Common sense 101

You have no idea how card upgrades work. And obviously very little about what makes a pitcher great too. not to mention rude as hell when someone tries to help explain it.

I like Urias, his diamond post season card last year was great for me in ranked, I think he is very similar to the year when Gio Gonzalez won 20, or Daisake won 18 for the Sox, doesn’t pitch deep into games, has a great team around them, so I mean he’s and 83-84... It’s similar to why Bogey and Tim Anderson are Mid golds, great hitting stats, but their speed and D make them gold.

You guys can go back and forth about which stats boost a player and which don't. That is all a moot point. Trevor Bauer is still diamond and he hasn't pitched in 3 months and right now he's with his lawyer trying to figure out a legal defense against forced Sodomy. Um....I don't think there is much of a formula being followed. How many games has Verlander pitched this year? Kirby Yates hasn't pitched since 2019. No need to defend a system that pretends to have rules and then flagrantly makes stuff up elsewhere.

Feel free to talk to me like I'm a 5 year old and explain how Verlander's K/9 this year has earned him a diamond......please!!!!

Ok, if that's what you want to be talked to like.

SDS doesn't downgrade players based on injury, so that is why Verlander and Yates are still diamonds and that's why Chris Sale stayed diamond.

SDS is just ignoring Bauer altogether, I think the best thing they can do is continue to pretend he doesn't exist.

Eh, you're a Cardinals fan. I couldn't get mad at you if I tried. Go Red Birds.

I get what you're saying about injury. I call that a lifetime achievement diamond LS card. It's interesting that Ozuna's card disappeared (I think, I could be wrong) but you are probably right about Bauer, slid under the rug.

I see the OP point. Julio has posted solid stats this year. His stats are about the same or better than Joe Musgrove in most categories. But Joe is a diamond, while Julio is only an 83. I guess h/9 & k/9 carry more weight in SDS's eyes than most people realize.

Looking at all these posts about pitchers I came to that conclusion long ago.

At the beginning of the season Alex Reyes was one of the most effective closers in the league but he stayed lowly rated even when his ERA was 0.00 because he gave up too many hits and walked to many batters.

SDS pitching formula is one size fits all and is geared towards strikeout pitchers. Pitch to contact or inducing weak contact (like Adam Wainwright) has no attribute that is affected.

Look at a guy I talk a lot about on this form in Andrew Chafin, because he’s not a big K guy, he’s a silver, probably will never get a POTM diamond, yet based on his actually season he could be 84-87 easily, but the game doesn’t take into a count contact guys.
