Clemente missed opportunity

Clemente was no doubt a great player and a great man but by giving him a signature card I feel like he will be a card that doesn’t make many teams at this point. If they had done an awards card from his mvp season they could have bumped his power into the mid 90s or even stretched to 100. That way with his contact and elite d he is arguably an end game card. Right now his offense is similar to Jackie and honus but without the elite speed. I love Jackie and honus partly because of their swings but mostly their speed. If they did an awards card for Clemente he is probably better than mookie. Now he is basically Jackie without the speed.

Don't Signature Series cards basically cherry pick the best stats from their entire career already?

No. You are thinking of immortals. Since 19 players that have gotten awards cards when previously having a signature( Chipper, Griffey, Foxx, Pujols) have all been better as an awards card. In fact the only two I can think of that the signature has been their best version are Babe and Kershaw

Then what the heck is a Signature series based on that is not already covered by another card series?

I believe Sig is an average of their 3 best seasons while Awards are just that one season.

Then what is Prime?
I am not trying to be difficult but am honestly confused. In the end it does not matter much but i am curious at this point.

I believe Prime is the best 2-3 seasons in a row.

Signature cards are more of a career card. Prime is a few year stretch when a player reached their prime.
-
My understanding is sig is more career- based. Not the best of the best of career, but more of an average. Prime covers 3 years. Awards and milestone are obvious.
On a semi-related note on no-hitter milestones, shouldnt a no-hitter have 125 H/9. I mean, they literally didn’t give up a hit.

Good take, I agree with this. Clemente is a fun card to use, but won't make my team for those exact reasons.

90 power with a sweet swing is all you need, I wish you could at least P5 him to 90+ power on both sides… Ty Cobb was my best power hitter last year, he’s hit more bombs than that Finest Belli and Lou Gehrig and he was 90 pop with an elite swing.

I think he provides great balance to a line up. However, when you put him vs mookie or even acuna, it's a bit hard to swallow. I've enjoyed using him in the event though
-
At least he's free. I'm glad to have him to use new players,

Ty was SO much fun last year!

That is prime; SS is a mix of career and top seasons; like Larry Walker last year: his SS had the baserunning of his earlier years with the Expos as he was one of the best on the base paths in taking the extra base with some steals, his mvp and gaudy Coors years and his overall plate discipline

I struggled with Clemente at first but kept at it. Im up to P3 and he is a straight up beast!
It's between him and Vlad Sr. for my best righty at this point.
And for people comparing him to Jackie, I gave up on Jackie because I can't hit with him at all. Clemente on another level hitting-wise.

Yes it’s too bad. It is a card so many people asked for over the last few years. Would have been nice to get this one earlier or get one with a bit more power.

Yeah, but at the same time how are you gonna justify giving a guy like him 100+ power and then give 99 Pujols just 10ish more in power numbers like 113/115? The real problem here, as it is every year, is that high contact guys are still somewhat useless and power hitters are still dominating the Show.

Yea I wish they could figure that out. So many people think they want jeter in the game but he would basically be Alan trammell or Michael young. Until they can make contact hitters usable there are a lot of guys that won’t get used much.

I see it like this. SDS now does whatever they need to to create the best version of a player, which is perfect IMO. It’s not as simple as Awards>SS>Milestones>Prime. They also need to divide them up for content purposes as well as keep things fresh year after year.
Take Mike Schmidt for example, he’s a HOFer obviously worthy of a 99 SS, he’s multiple MVP winner, but also hit 4 HRs in a game. They choose that to make him even better than his MVP season, mainly because you can’t average 4hrs a game for a entire year. Sometimes a career like Nolan Ryans with 7 no hitters still looks more impressive than a one game milestone like Felix Hernandez and his perfect game. Some times a career Milestone like Mariano being the all time leader in his class is what makes you stand out.
No exact science, the card series aren’t even the same as last year. They probably won’t be the same next year either. The cards they give out this year won’t be the same they give out next year.
