Sure it's disgusting but honestly how could you possibly moderate it to such a level that online play would always be kid friendly? This is the world we live in and if you want to shelter your child from it then that should be on you. Sorry just trying to be real.
If it's rated as M for mature audience then so be it.
This is rate E for everyone, so it's an expectation that there won't be anything that would be for mature audiences.Online play is always unrated and every game discloses that somewhere. Also if they're not monitoring it at all it's probably because they can't keep up with the thousands of logos people make every day. Plus all the judgement calls that would be forced when people try to sneak something by. If they did you'd probably have to wait a week to use your logo after making it. My logo is just a plain taco btw.
Online play for a sports game is inherently unrated because, it's a straightforward sports game.
I'm also only referring to the obvious sexual and racist logos/names so there wouldn't need to be judgement calls.

Sports games are always rated e for everyone, and all online play on all games is unrated because they can't control what people say to each other. Judgements would be necessary if people were trying to hide or disguise something controversial. And to be clear I'm not sticking up for the bad logos, but the game developers and the freedom to create that they gave us.

It's rough, whenever I'm there I just tag all the really bad stuff I see. People will argue "online isn't rated get over it" but the game is rated E for everyone so you don't expect to see that stuff in the game. If it was a rated M game it wouldn't be an issue(aside from the racist stuff) because you expect to see things like that in those games.
I’m not arguing for the bad content, but to your point, those E ratings do only apply to offline game play. They always come with the disclaimer that the online content is not rated. That’s how any game with online play can still manage to obtain the E rating. They’re only responsible for the game they make, not the conduct of the players. That said, the rating system should probably be updated to account for the fact that just about every game made today has online capability with a community full of varying ages and maturity levels.

What other online - E rated for everyone game, has logos and names that are overtly sexually deviant and racist?
I'm pretty sure that the x-rated visual logo content in the MLB The Show logo vault, for example --> today I faced a player who's logo depicted...a [censored] with cum shooting out of it...this logo is so over the top offensive that SDS could face legal consequences for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

I think you’re missing the point of what I’m saying. Again, I’m NOT arguing for the bad content people put on there. I’m NOT defending it. I’m NOT saying it’s acceptable. The point of my comment is based purely on fact. The fact is that the online content does not in any way, shape or form effect the rating a game receives from the ESRB, and it is also a fact that the E rating of any game comes with a disclaimer that states, “online content is not rated.” These are facts, not opinions. There’s really no disputing the existence of these facts as they exist as truth and they are what they are.
That said, the second point of my comment is that, because of the bad content people put into online games, the ESRB should revamp their rating system to include online user content and interactions. They could supply a second rating solely to the online portion of the game that judges what the studio allows or disallows users to do and submit, or they could require games to have age restricted access to online play and/or content in order for a game to receive an E rating. The rating system was created during a time when games were not played online, or at least it was not as commonly included in games as it is today. The system needs to catch up with the times to prevent the very thing you’re upset with.
Not everything can be prevented online. You may be able to moderate user uploaded content but you can’t prevent players from saying terrible things in the in-game chats, so this doesn’t fall solely on SDS. The ESRB, game studios and parents all need to take responsibility for what children are exposed to online. It sucks that people can be so hateful or immature and upload this kind of nonsense, but unfortunately an E rating doesn’t prevent that, and the behavior does not prevent the game from getting an E rating based on how the current rating system is structured.

I went in there today to look for a logo and first 5 pages totally disgusting. It's not like it's even hidden in the 5 pages, it's literally multiple sexual body parts, racist images, and even a mix of both multiple times on each page. Really disgusting stuff.

Yeah that was my main issue. It’s not like you have to dig. First page last night was full of male genitalia and racist George Floyd related logos with a few swastikas thrown in for good measure I assume. I went 5 pages in and not a single page was free from trash.

Side story you just made me think of. I saw on a Facebook group for this game someone posted that he went to go play a game and his NY Jets themed team logo was replaced with a George Floyd logo and he has no idea how it got there because he never downloaded it. So either these morons are also hacking people’s accounts and downloading the offensive content or he did download himself, someone complained and he’s trying to post about it to make it look like he’s just the victim of a prank.

I understand what you're saying, about online rated play, however in the eyes of a judge/jury it could be different.
For example, although SDS cannot police everything online, if it's shown they, SDS, were made aware of a specific x-rated logo and did nothing to take it down then they could be held libel for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

No, they can't. Online user experiences are not rated. They can't police the toxicity of the internet.
The choices are:
- Monitor your child when they play online games. Understand the risk of them being exposed to vulgar, racist stuff.
2..Don't let them play games of you're scared of this exposure.
- Let them learn, like the rest of us, about the negative sides of life.

My comments about the rating are strictly about the E rating being given. As I said, that’s an issue with the ESRB’s system. What you’re talking about is a totally separate civil matter. That said, I actually have a background in law. I have a degree in criminal justice, I’m a detective with 11 years on the job and also currently working towards a law degree so I can be a lawyer when I retire (I know people can claim just about anything on the internet and you don’t know me from a hole in the wall so if you don’t want to believe all of that I understand). What you’re talking is a tough sell. You can sue a ham sandwich, but to prove culpability is another thing. The fact that the rating comes with a disclaimer is what protects any studio from facing liability for any actions of the gamers. You would need to prove a couple of different things. First thing is proof of injury, which in this case would be considered emotional damages to the child. Simple exposure to the material is not proof, the effects of that exposure is what needs to be proven. The second thing would be that you would have to prove that SDS has a legal obligation to protect children from that exposure, moral obligation is not the same. I think we can all agree that any human being should be morally obligated to protect children from any type of harm, but the courts do not work in morality, they work in legality and that’s based on what is written in the law. Going back to the disclaimer, the rating makes it abundantly clear that the content online is not taken into consideration for the E rating and therefore the onus of that responsibility is now placed on the consumer. But let’s just say for a moment that the disclaimer does not cover SDS, the last thing you need to prove is that they were not only made aware of this content’s existence by some of the users, but they also negligently ignored these complaints and allowed it to continue without any recourse for the offending users. It’s a very tough sell all around.
However, you would have a better case against the ESRB for allowing an E rating and for allowing this type of disclaimer on online content to continue. You could argue that they allow for this type of environment to exist by continuing to issue antiquated ratings for games that have outgrown the ratings system. You could use film, television and music rating scales as examples of other media based ratings that have evolved over the years to accommodate changing social behaviors and content while the ESRB has dragged their feet through the mud behind those industries.
