Oh I agree on the secondary thing. I think player's secondary positions should take a larger hit in most cases...
But the fact still remains, Arenado was just slightly above average defensively for a season a couple years ago... He's back though..
Should he be 99? I dunno... Chapman is still the best defensive 3B.. -

Cub fan here. San Diego has lots of golds and diamonds because their players have performed well this year and the 2 previous years. There is no conspiracy.
Also, Bryant performs well in every position he plays. But there isn’t an attribute that gives him a boost to overall for versatility. Machado is a premier defender at third. Bryant does not perform at that level at any one position. But don’t worry. If he keeps his 1000+ OPS all year, he will go diamond again.

Machado goes through more extremes with his defense than the streakiest of batters. This is from an Orioles article in 2018. Machado has had some of the WORST defensive seasons in the history of the game. He's had a few very good ones. So, which player is he?

Not just his own worst defensive season—the worst for any player, at any position (positional adjustments aside). Machado has already reached negative-20 DRS this year—that’s the second-worst total at any position in 2018, on a list that also includes Jones and Mancini in the bottom five—and is thus on pace to hit nearly negative-40 for the season. Since 2003, the worst single-season DRS total is negative-33, for Matt Kemp in 2010; only six players have gone even 30 runs under.

No it's not, they tend to react more heavily to whatever the big news is. Everyone was talking about how bad Lindor has been. Tatis being on an absolute tear and becoming one of the faces of baseball. Vlad JR crushing home runs. It's catering to the people who follow those types of storylines. Kris Bryant hasn't been hyped by the media yet etc.

There is no real argument for this. They almost never touch fielding unless they need too, then completely change the rules for certain guys. No standard at all. If Ohtani played for SD you can bet every stub they’d be doing everything to change the rules and upgrade him.
Let’s not forget what they did when a Padre hit a unwritten rules HR last year, haven’t seen anyone else get a 99 overall card for hitting a bomb off a position player in a blow out. These guys play favourites. No argument.

Just want to point out that most people who work at SDS are not Padre fans and aren't from San Diego.
Just from the streams over the years, there's literally one or 2 padre fans... A couple guys from Canada, Nick is a chisox guy. Luis is Yankees.. etc..Must just be a coincidence? Hmmm. What is most who work, and how do you know. Not saying you're wrong, but you are speaking like you know because of some survey of all the folks that have a hand in creating these ratings. And, maybe you do.
Pretty easy to cherry-pick, but it really stands to reason from any sort of logic you would ever want to inject that the players from the town that creates this game are given a better shake..further would make one think it's intentional.
First off, the studio is in San Diego.. that's it... They don't hire locally. They pick developers from all over, and internally from Sony.. secondly, for the last 6 years of MLB the show, they have streamed tournaments with their team, along with content, etc.. they've been very open to who they are, what each does and also what team they cheer for, and where they're from. Almost none of them are from San Diego... Luis (Yankee fan) runs the DD team. There's a twin and Jays fan on that team if I remember too.
The head live content manager is a Marlins fan as well this post might be the dumbest thing on here, clearly OP wasn't here in 19 when ever 3rd card released was a Braves card for a total of some 56 Braves flashback cards.
Where do you guys get this stuff? And if it came right out of the horses's mouths doesn't mean it to be written in stone. Or freaking guy didn't lie to cover up his real allegiance. Or didn't get pressured from his Boss...we'll call him the "live content manager for Regional sale's Boss" that is a SD fan.

I'm a Cubs Fan (those who don't know Cubs/Cards is one of the biggest rivalries in all of sports) who has Arenado on a fantasy league team.
Every game I root for him to hit homeruns and give up key errors that lead to losses. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if his -3 OAA (most definitive bad defense stat) festers all season. And, btw, Kris Bryant has never had an OAA worse than -3. Bryant is -1 this year.
No offense Cardinal fans..just call 'em the way I see 'em.

That's what I suspected since trying to deal with that on a weekly basis would be a nightmare since fielding isn't just as cut and dried as errors.

No, I'm going to say, just like a good attorney or advocate would..it's all circumstantial and open to opposing viewpoints.
We've established motive - SD company wants to see their team's players do well.
We've established opportunity - SDS developers are the ones that produce these convoluted numbers (don't matter where they hale from or publicly share is their favorite players).
We've established chain of command - They still have to genuflect to the boss's..and the boss's bosses, etc. whims.
And, most importantly, we have the smoking gun...all these biased roster updates.
Do believe in a court of law we could get a conviction. Unless the jury were all from Sorrento Valley. Then you might have some problems.

All you have here is circumstantial and heresy in no way could you get a conviction. You have no hard evidence to support your case.
