I could get a hit off of an MLB pitcher
-
So I stumbled across this YouTube video of MLB pitches from a batter's POV and it made me realize, "This doesn't look that hard to hit." The pitches don't seem that fast, I think I could hit these.
I haven't played baseball since middle school, but I'm a young adult in pretty good physical condition. I believe I'm getting a hit in 20 ABs versus an average MLB pitcher and defense. I said this in a group chat and basically got flamed, but I'm pretty sure I'm right here.

Like watch the video I linked, that doesn't look that fast and it's probably what 92+?
-
You’re wrong. I hadn’t played baseball since high school and joined an adult league at age 27. I had to relearn just about everything. Fielding came back relatively quickly.. hitting is a whole different story. If you haven’t even seen high school pitching, I doubt you even touch a single pitch. Have you even used a wood bat?
-
Probably easier to see than getting your hands around but sure you could.
-
I believe this comes down to FPS. Unless you are actually standing in front of it you will never get a true feel for how fast it actually is, the cameras are playing tricks on you even more so than your confidence level.

Stfu
My last AB was in August of last year (PO life) and I faced probably 84-86 this past weekend and could barely foul stuff off. I wouldn’t even be able to swing at 95+ let alone all the dirty offspeed I’d have to take into account

Watch the video, it doesn't look too fast, if I get 20 ABs I can just sit fastball and take a swing in the zone, that's probably 100 pitches so statistically I should connect with one and find a hole I feel like.

If anything the cameras make it faster because of less frames to see the ball.

Bro... It’s a lot harder than you think haha. I don’t think you’d get a hit in 20 ABs against a Single A pitcher. Unless you played high level baseball into your 20s, you aren’t touching a thing without a ton of training and practice.

Go to a batting cage.
I know the last time I went, it took me about 7 swings at 60mph to even foul one off. Now maybe some of you guys that played in HS or college would be able to have the same experience facing 85mph but OP is dreaming imo.

The worst hitting pitcher ever had about a .045 OBP in the MLB. Most pitcher only players still take BP and stuff so that’s not surprising, but that goes out the window since this is the worst hitting pitcher ever, in all likelihood, I can hit better than the worst hitting pitcher ever, and being an 18 yo male with a decent build, I think I could.

6 or 7 swings... in 20 ABs I might get 100 pitches. I could spent a few pitches just swinging in the zone with hopes of a strike, and there’s an ok chance I make contact like that.

I mean professional players aren’t gods they just practised and used their abilities to their full potential and got playing time. I agree you probably could hit it if you know it’s coming. Hitting baseball may be the hardest thing in sports but it’s not like doing a triple flip Mctwisty in skateboarding. Swinging a bat is pretty natural . If you can dodge a wrench you can hit a fastball? Right?
-
I feel like the sheer number of ABs and pitches are on my side, each AB will likely be at least 3 pitches (unless I get a hit). That’s a minimum of 60 pitches without any takes on balls, any walks, or any fouls. Say I can get 2 balls on most ABs or 1 foul 1 ball, already 100 pitches.
In 100 pitches I can guess and have a decent chance at a hit, or I could adjust as it progresses.
At a certain point I feel like statistics is on my side.

In this scenario it’s not just fastball. Let’s assume it’s an average 5.00 ERA MLB pitcher with a fastball, change up, and one more breaking ball

I think you’re underestimating how difficult it is to hit a baseball. Especially live pitching. And then you’re going to do this against someone who has trained their whole life to play baseball professionally and was good enough to make it into the MLB? Not to mention the highest level of ball you’ve played is middle school? Come on dude haha. Do you have any idea how good you have to be to even sniff the Majors?
-
I stopped reading at "middle school".
-
I think if the average person actually knew how difficult it is to play baseball at a high level, the sport would be more popular. And how easy the MLB players make it look is incredible.

I am talking about the worst hitter EVER in the MLB. In all likelihood I am a better hitter than him. It’s nothing against the pitchers, but they aren’t untouchable, in 20 ABs you could probably guess and swing early to find a hole somewhere in there.

I like how he ll get maybe 100 pitches in 20 abs. Knowing that hes not hit before there wont be one pitch thrown closer than 6 inches to the edge of the zone.
