So, I just noticed that this card says 1986 all-star and that’s the season reflected in his card, his age-25 season and the one Luis talked about on the stream. But it’s the 1987 Topps design. Strange. He had a card in the 86 set.

Not a big deal, of course, and I love seeing the 87 design anytime. As a card collector, I just happened to notice it. I took a quick look at other 86 and87-year themed cards and I think this might be the only one like that. Anyone else notice any irregularities? The card nerd in me came out there.

I love seeing the Topps flagship line most of the time, I also think it’s cool when they mix in other sets, particularly Bowman.

I also thought it strange that this year’s live series don’t exactly mirror the regular Topps cards. It’s close but definitely different.

Like I said before too, it seems like we’re seeing a lot more of the single-year cards this year early before they beef up the 99s with awards, sig and prime.

I'm pretty sure the cards aren't carbon copies of 2021 topps design is because how small the names are on the base design in rl.

yes this is the 87 topps card.
86 wouldve had a white border with black top stating yankees in white.

I know it’s the 87. But the card and it’s attributes reflect 86

I may be wrong here but wouldn't the cards reflect the year before since they come out at the beginning of each season?

I don’t know if there’s an answer, per se. I think it’s just a mix-up or irregularity. But no, the dates listed on the card usually are that years Topps.

On this note, I wonder why they put a generic card for the All-Star Bumgarner card when Topps has actual cards for it

Bumgarner gets a generic card because he is not part of the Topps contract, for some reason. He isn’t on cards, so SDS takes the Topps logo away and usually uses a different look for his cards (and Spencer Turnbull from Tigers).
